Those are difficult questions to answer. It was mentioned in another post that the CoD fandom isn't as wholly unified as other franchises like Star Wars or Fallout, so you typically don't see bustling communities popping up solely to discuss its content, with the possible exception of youtubers. We have been fighting that uphill battle for many years now unfortunately. After talking to some of the other users I think their fears rest on the belief that none of the CoD fans that come to discussions have any desire to edit, juxtaposed to my earlier examples. I'm not sure how effective it would be to try to integrate more wiki content into the posts here in order to "cultivate" as you put it, but I'm not opposed to giving it a better chance.
Can you vote on a mobile device?
So long as you can edit the pages, yes.
Christopher, your responses have been deviating at times. Not to mention that most of what you've said is outright lying.
"and the mature thing to do is find a way to make it work for the community" - yes, which is why we want it gone. This place adds nothing to the community, how many people here have gone from discussions to being active wiki members? Yep, 0.
"-What makes the community special?
-What makes the wiki special?
-What are the perceived limitations of both?
-What are the perceived challenges for both?" - I, er, don't see what this has to do with anything. You're trying to argue why Discussions should be kept.
Oh, and this thread means nothing really. Nobody's opinion here counts, if you want to vote, head on down to the war room and argue your case there. I'll debunk your points here for sure but they don't count for anything...
On Wednesday 24th May 9:00 PM BST I am closing this forum. So votes '''must''' come in now to be counted.
one person wants to make things work and others don't. The wiki will die unless people open themselves up to different methods and techniques.
I am more then willing to help. But if people don't want to try, then it's all for naught.
If anything is a failure here, it's not because of 'Discussions', it's because of the inability to adapt.
Please think about this.
Some would say that the CoD franchise is on it's last legs. Whether it's true or not, there are gaming communities out there for dead franchises. They've found a way to bring new people in.
'Forums' is getting shut down in the future. All you will have is the wiki and nothing else. You shouldn't be ignoring 'discussions'.
You're being full of yourself. Why should we adapt to the norm when we have a system that works? The fact Wikia want to take that down is poor on them. Discussions model does not work with this wiki, I should know, I've been here for 6 years.
I'm fully aware there are gaming communities for dead franchises, like you are aware I have Bandipedia right? We've tried discussions now - it's failed. That's the end of it.
Also, please comment on the forum. Make your case there. You're wasting your breath here.
With all due respect Christopher. Your responses so far have been very rude and condescending. You may not be a member of staff, but you seem to promote Discussions as though you have some personal stake in it.
Our style of forums are not getting shut down. This feature wouldn't even allow us to have a proper discussion about something important because it's built as a social tool, not an admin tool.
Our community has made a forum. We've invited '''everyone''' to get involved on it, including members of this discussion app. If people truly really want it, then they are 100% free to vote on that forum. And if the forum shows the community wants this, then we will do all we can to make it work. But so far that is not happening. The winning vote is currently to shut down Discussions. How do you have the right to tell not just me, but every user that has voted that way is because of their "inability to adapt"?
What you do not seem to be getting is that this is a community discussion on the forum. You can't come here and complain that no one is listening to you when there are other people that do not want this feature and do not even use this feature. You have been invited multiple times to edit on that forum, and have yet to do so. Since you are a Councillor I do not think it is too complex for you to be able to utilise the forum and put your points across there where not only will more people see them, but be logged as part of the voting process.
If you do not wish to use the forums, then I suggest you stop insulting myself and my community simply because this is a feature we do not want.
If I'm coming across in a condecending way, I appologize for that. That's not my intention here.
I also admit that I negatively reacted to being called a liar and full of myself. I'm usually far better at reacting to those kind of uncalled for statements.
I guess a lot of what's happening is misinformation.
Perhaps you are unaware (and I thought you were)... 'Forums' are getting removed. That's been officially stated. But it won't happen until 'Discussions' is out of the beta phase.
Perhaps you can remove the beta state of Discussions since that is something that I'm not aware of.
But the future of Fandom has been laid out to us... 'Forums' are getting removed.
Actually, I should also explain that further... the old forum system is remaining. The newer forum system that includes Wikitext, is being removed.
Discussions is a core feature that the company is going forward with. When it comes out of beta (and there's no timeline for that; it could be a long time from now), it will be a part of all communities.
I'd like to go back to my older questions about what makes this place special. The reason for asking that is the answers should be the core of your plan for growth.
If you want people to become part of the community, especially if you want new editors, you need a plan to make this happen. It's not going to magically happen.
It really comes down to what you all want for the future of this community. If all you want is for the small niche group to continue as it has been, then that's more then ok. That's a legitimate answer.
My personal bias is that I would expect every community would want to grow. But it's ok that this would not be something a community would want.
And that's part of the beauty of Fandom communities... we get to decide how we want our communities to function.
"we get to decide how we want our communities to function."
You just destroyed your entire argument with this sentence. We have had Discussions forced on us, we know where our community comes from and how to develop it - Discussions hasn't helped at all.
