The 2019 London Terrorist Attack was a series of coordinated terrorist attacks on October 25th, 2019 in the United Kingdom featured in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare reboot timeline. It was orchestrated by Al-Qatala, an international terrorist organization based in Urzikstan.

Background[]

Prior to the attacks, an AQ cell was being kept under constant surveillance by a joint Army/Metropolitan Police Service team, under the leadership of Sergeant Kyle Garrick. Despite collecting evidence that suggested a general threat to the public, they were prevented from capturing the team or utilizing more high profile measures like police snipers to avoid unduly alarming the public.

Attack[]

Shortly before the attack, CTSFO/SAS Sgt. Kyle Garrick, Cst. Brooks, Sgt. Crowley, and Cst. Fowler were following a van of the AQ cell's fighters through the streets of London while maintaining contact with their commander, Raven. Seeing that the van seemed to be part of preparations for an imminent attack, the team moved on it to apprehend its occupants. An AQ lookout was able to alert his allies of the approaching police allowing the fighters to exit the van and, after a tense standoff, open fire on the team and nearby civilians. During the initial exchange, Brooks was shot and killed. The van, meanwhile, accelerated into a crowd and detonated.

The ensuing battle was lopsided, as the AQ militants were armed with rifles and machineguns while most of the military and police on site were only armed with pistols. Despite this disadvantage, Garrick fought his way forward, engaging multiple enemy combatants in the shops dotted around Piccadilly Circus. To deal with the mounting civilian and police casualties, Raven authorized deployment of Medical Response Teams (MRTs). Eventually, only the Tanto building remained uncleared. While entering the building, Garrick was ambushed by a knife-wielding AQ fighter but was saved by Cpt Price. The two cleared the building, finding that several hostages were on the second floor. One of the hostages had been fitted with a suicide vest and it had less than a minute before detonating. Seeing that Garrick was unable to stop the countdown, Price pushed him aside and heaved the hostage over the balcony moments before the device detonated, saving Garrick and the remaining hostages.

Aftermath[]

The shocking number of casualties angered Garrick, who told Price of his surveillance of the AQ cell but their being hamstrung by superiors. Seeing potential in the sergeant, Price took him under his wing as they prepared to raid the house of another AQ cell in the city.
