The AK-74 is an assault rifle featured in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Mobilized and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3: Defiance. It also has a brief cameo appearance in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered and Call of Duty: Mobile.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare & Modern Warfare Remastered[]

In the intro cutscene of The Coup, the AK-74 is seen strapped to the back of the two OpFor soldiers dragging President Yasir Al-Fulani. It is not available during gameplay where it is replaced by the AK-47.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Mobilized[]

The AK-74 appears as the modernized version of the AK-47 found in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, with a black finish and a metal handguard. The AK-74 is found throughout the entire campaign and is seen being used frequently by enemy infantry (probably the most used in fact). The in-game model features a sawed-off butt-stock, a grip attachment and a high rate of fire. It also uses a 30-round magazine and is one of the pre-unlocked weapons of the Insurgency factions in Multiplayer. Thanks to the high rate of fire, high power, fast reload and clear iron-sights it is one of the most used and effective weapons in the game.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3: Defiance[]

The AK-74 returns in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3: Defiance. It's the same as the one in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Mobilized except now it has recoil.

Campaign[]

The Russian forces return along with this weapon and use them against the player. Encountered somewhat often during the campaign, as Russians often used the more mass produced AK-47. It is encountered more frequently during the last few missions in Defiance along with the SKS. The AK-74 is only obtainable from dead enemies and never seen used by any friendly forces.

Multiplayer[]

The AK-74 appears in multiplayer as an unlockable assault rifle. It can be unlocked with 700 kills with any assault rifle.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II[]

During the opening cutscene of the level Old Wounds, an AK-74 is briefly seen in archive footage.

Call of Duty: Mobile[]

The AK-74 is used by militiamen in the Battle Pass comics of the 2021 Season 2: Day of Reckoning.

Trivia[]

  • Though the iron sights are fairly accurate, they are misaligned in both games. Shots go slightly to the right of the center of the iron sight.
  • The HUD icon in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3: Defiance lacks the front and rear sights.
