The AUG is a submachine gun featured in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: Mobile, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare[]
- "A modular fully automatic weapon configured for mobility and close range combat."
- — In-game description
Overview[]
Campaign[]
Several of Barkov's Forces often carry this weapon. It is also one of the few SMGs used by the ULF along with the MP5 and Uzi.
Multiplayer[]
The AUG is unlocked for loadouts by default and has solid damage for an SMG. It is a 4-7 shot kill to the limbs, but can kill in 3-6 shots to the torso. The AUG also has a high headshot multiplier, so it can kill in 2-4 shots to the head, though it will often require multiple headshots to see such an effect. Using the torso damage values, the 3-shot kill range is 12.5 meters, and the 4-shot kill range is 20 meters. Past 30 meters it will take 6-shots to the torso to kill. As such, it’s important to keep your engagements at close range to ensure maximum damage output. Rate of fire is 769 RPM. This is unimpressive for an SMG, but the 3-shot kill potential gives it a fast time-to-kill up close.
The AUG’s handling is subpar for its class, but still pretty fast overall. ADS speed in particular is more in line with some of the lighter assault rifles. Move speed and ADS strafe speed are also closer to assault rifle values instead of SMG values. Fortunately, it comes with a very fast sprint out speed like the other submachine guns. This allows the AUG to still react quickly in close quarters. Hipfire spread is also tight and in line with other SMGS. Recoil is mild with a gradual upwards drift and minor side-to-side bounce. These stats place the AUG as something of an intermediate between the ARs and other SMGs. Unfortunately, the AUG only comes with 25 round magazines by default, and reload time is not very quick either. It’s easy to run out of ammo when using the AUG, and this can be a hinderance in longer gunfights or against groups of enemies. Fortunately, attachments can alleviate much of these issues.
The AUG has a generous array of attachments like most other SMGs. Of note is that the AUG doesn’t have any short barrels, so it can’t equip one to increase its move and ADS speeds. The 407mm Extended Barrel grants a moderate boost to damage range and recoil control but slows down ADS time noticeably. The 622mm Long Barrel takes this even further. Range will be boosted even more, but in addition to the same ADS speed penalty, the 622mm barrel slows movement speed quite a bit. This will make the AUG handle more like a heavy assault rifle, albeit with a fast sprintout speed. The 407mm Lightweight barrel provides a decent range boost with only a minor ADS penalty, so it might be worth considering to boost the AUG’s range without sacrificing mobility.
Other attachments perform as expected, though the AUG has a couple of surprises. It has the option of a unique Integral 2.8x Optic which will slightly slow down ADS time but grant more zoom. This is usually ill-suited to the roles the base AUG fills, but combining it with a long barrel can yield more accuracy at midrange. Attachments that affect recoil control or stabilization will lower the gun’s already mild kick. One particular combination is the Compensator and Commando Foregrip which will considerably reduce recoil while retaining most of the gun’s mobility. The FORGE TAC CQB Comb stock and Stippled Grip Tape will help bolster the AUG’s subpar ADS speed. This will make it perform much better at more conventional aggressive SMG tactics. Adding a laser that boosts hipfire to this combination will give the weapon even better performance in tight spaces, making that 3-shot kill all the more deadly. Finally, equipping 32 Round Mags or Sleight of Hand is essential to counteract the small magazines. The 32 round mags also grant more reserve ammo which is crucial for not running out at a critical moment.
It also features an ammo conversion, 5.56 NATO, converting the AUG into more of an assault rifle. Equipping the 5.56 NATO 30-Round Mags will increase the AUG’s damage to a 3-5 shot kill anywhere to the body. It can also kill in 2-4 headshots. Rate of fire is slightly reduced to 682 RPM, but time-to-kill is still decent and more consistent over range or when hitting the limbs. The 3-shot kill range isn’t increased, but the 5.56 AUG can get a 4-shot kill out to 40 meters. Unfortunately, this conversion increases vertical recoil substantially. It’s still predictable, but the vertical bounce will be much higher and more difficult to control than the base AUG. 5.56 NATO 60-Round Drums can also be equipped. This grants all the benefits of the 30 Round Mags but with more ammo and slower move speed and ADS speed.

Call of Duty: Mobile[]
- "A modular fully automatic weapon configured for mobility and close range combat."
- — In-game description
The AUG returns in Call of Duty: Mobile as the AGR 556. It was added as part of the Season 12 Going Dark update.
In the Season 13 Wint3r War update, the AGR 556's model was modified, now having an added magwell and a thinner magazine.
Multiplayer[]
The gun sports moderate damage with high fire rate and controllable recoil. This allows it to kill fast at close range when hitting the upper body. However, when hitting limbs and the belly, it suffers the .9x multiplier, causing the gun to kill dramatically slower.
With the 5.56 Conversion, the gun deals more damage with less fire rate. It also deals noticeably more damage at longer ranges with the lower damage drop at range. The two 5.56mm conversions, including the large extended magazine, do not suffer from slower reload speed.
Battle Royale[]
The gun can deal rather high damage at range with low recoil penalty. It is also very mobile for a submachine gun.
