Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3Edit
At first, the Airdrop Trap acts much like a regular Care Package, being called in via a smoke grenade that emits red smoke and the crate being dropped off by an MH-6 Little Bird. However, it does not grant the player a randomized killstreak reward; instead its purpose is to deceive the enemy into thinking it is a regular Care Package and have them steal it. When an enemy attempts to take the crate, a loud beeping noise is heard and the crate will explode, killing anyone close to it.
There are several ways to either identify an Airdrop Trap from a real Care Package. One way to tell off an Airdrop Trap is to use SitRep, which makes an Airdrop Trap glow in red. Airdrop Traps also have a slightly shorter capture time. Also, Airdrop Traps tend to be neglected by the team it belongs to rather than a Care Package where typically at least one player attempts to actively take it, similar to the effects of Hacker Pro from Call of Duty: Black Ops. The killstreaks inside the Airdrop Trap also tend to have high killstreaks in them, such as the Reaper, AC-130 or a Osprey Gunner.
It is also possible to survive the explosion even after capturing it, such as using a Riot Shield and/or Ballistic Vests, or capturing it as far away from it as possible then sprinting away if it starts beeping. However, Blast Shield will not protect the player.
The Escort Airdrop point-streak comes with one Airdrop trap, along with four Care Packages. However occasionally the Escort Airdrop will drop an additional care package instead of an Airdrop Trap. When playing the gamemode Drop Zone, Emergency Airdrops and earned Care Packages can drop Airdrop traps.
- All of the pointstreaks in the Airdrop Trap are from the Assault Strike Package.
- Helicopter parts can be seen erupting from the explosion the airdrop trap emits.
