The Alternate Ammo Type, also known as Ammo Mods, is a upgrade system featured in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III[]

Alternate Ammo Types were introduced in Call of Duty: Black Ops III, where AATs can be added or re-rolled by upgrading the weapon again in the Pack-a-Punch Machine.

In Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Alternate Ammo Types can be re-rolled by upgrading the weapon again in the Pack-a-Punch Machine.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War[]

In Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Ammo Mods can be added to any standard weapon either via the Pack-a-Punch Machine for 2,000 Essence or via finding an Ammo Mod pickup earnt from a source, such as a World Event in Outbreak.

They are also one of the items that can be upgraded with Aetherium Crystals to enhance the power of them, with five tiers of upgrades being available.

Specific Microtransactional blueprints is noted to come with "Elemental Damage", these blueprints come with a weakened version of the related Ammo Mod tied to said element, only dealing additional bonus damage upon matching elemental weakness of an enemy. These blueprints are also "Elementally Locked", in a similar fashion to Wonder Weapons, and can only receive the matching Ammo Mod tied to the element that it has.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III[]

Alternate Ammo Types return in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III Zombies as Ammo Mods, functioning like its predecessor from Black Ops Cold War.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6[]

Alternate Ammo Types return in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 as Ammo Mods, functioning like its counterpart from Black Ops Cold War. Ammo Mods in Black Ops 6 however now feature Augments, which allow the player to equip one minor and one major Augment to their Ammo Mod to give it increased effects.

Ammo Mods can be purchased for 500 Salvage at the Arsenal Machine.
