The Principality of Avalon (French: Principauté de Avalon) is a fictional city-state located on the Mediterranean Coast featured in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

History[]

Middle Ages[]

Avalon was originally a region located in the south of the Kingdom of France. Around 750 CE, the region served as a leper colony with a single abbey, "Abbaye des Oubliés", constructed by the Benedictines to take care of those afflicted by the disease. The abbey was abandoned decades later following a "leper revolt".

In 1137, Adelaide of Maurienne, Queen of France and widow of King Louis VI, who died the same year, spearheaded the construction of a castle on the site of the abandoned abbey. The construction concluded in 1220 with an adjacent village that housed the workers and their families.

Following the dissolution of the Knights Templar in 1314, surviving members of the order gathered and hid relics looted during the Crusades. One of them found refuge in the castle of Avalon alongside Guy de Saint Michel and his four enforcers. They performed rituals within the keep.

Free state[]

In 1533, Avalon became a city-state by order of Pope Adrian VI. The principality was granted to a powerful family which would later be known as the French Syndicate.

1900s[]

In 1925, the Luttazzi Family, a powerful clan from Sicily arrived and relocated in the northern region of Avalon following the execution of the Luttazzi patriach. The Luttazzi, led by the second matriarch, built banks, churches, and neighborhoods, gaining influence in Avalon's underworld.

In 1939, the French Syndicate funded and built the first stadium of Avalon, which became the home of Avalon's soccer club, the FC Corsaire. During World War II, Avalon managed to remain neutral but was mistakenly hit by Allied bombing runs, including the castle. After the war, the Luttazzi grew in influence and built several famed landmarks of Avalon including the Casino. In 1959, the Godmother became the new matriarch of the Luttazzi.

In 1981, the first stadium of Avalon was dismantled, and a new stadium, the "Stade de la Trinité", was built with funding from the Guild.

The conflict between the different criminal syndicates continued to influence the everyday life of the principality all the way to 1991.
