Bastien is a character in V.E.R.S.I.O.N.. He lives in Zürich, Switzerland and is 26 years old.
At the start of the story Bastien is starting his first day working at the Coalescence Corporation; he had previously worked for a pharmaceutical company ever since he graduated university. He is working for the company's Communication Affairs (CommAffairs); his job requires managing anything public facing, from punctuation in a press release to the legality of a government inquiry. CommAffairs meeting room is known as The War Room.
Bastien is quite intelligent and exhibits good critical thinking; he assessed the implications of the neuro-imaging technology Niklas showed him quite quickly after it was revealed to him.
Bastien also has a somewhat cynical side; he questions human augmentation amongst the rich and powerful given the mass poverty experienced by much of the world. He also seems to be cynical of working for Coalescence, such as their tactic of deploying social media bots to sow doubt amongst about negative publicity the company receives.
He does not seem to have much in the way of augmentations himself.
