"Bell" [1] is the codename for a character in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. They act as the main protagonist and playable character.

Biography

Prior to the campaign

Before the individual becomes "Bell", they were a close associate of Perseus. They were present during a meeting with Arash Kadivar, Anton Volkov, Vadim Rudnik and Robert Aldrich. Perseus exposed his fear to "Bell" about the United States' power slowly consuming the Soviet Union and the Soviet leaders doing nothing about it. He revealed his plan to steal an American nuclear bomb which could unlock the Greenlight nuclear arsenals based throughout Western Europe. From there, Perseus planned to detonate all of the bombs so he could alter the balance of power in the Cold War in the Soviet Union's favor.

While accompanying Kadivar to the Trabzon airfield, Bell is shot and left for dead by the former, jealous of "Bell's" status in Perseus' ring. Russell Adler assassinates Kadivar, then finds "Bell". He proceeds to capture them and brainwash them using a CIA mind control program known as Project MK Ultra.[2]

After "Bell's" body was found, the CIA tried interrogation but to no avail. Adler then decided to try brainwashing them into trying to give up Perseus' location by giving them fake memories and establishing trust; this was successful. Adler gave them their nickname and the catchphrase "We've got a job to do" whenever he wanted them to remember Perseus. However, Hudson wasn't so keen on having "Bell" as a member of Adler's team to hunt Perseus.

Betrayal

If "Bell" chooses not to reveal where Perseus truly is, they will lie to Adler, leading the group to Duga. During planning, "Bell" radios the Soviet Base to plan for an ambush. After arriving at Duga, the team berates "Bell" for lying to them. Adler is disappointed in "Bell" due to how much faith he had in them. "Bell" then signals the ambush, in which they are briefly knocked out by an RPG but later regains consciousness and is helped up by a Soviet soldier, "Bell" then proceeds to execute Mason, Woods and possibly either Park or Lazar.

After most of the team is killed, "Bell" follows the soldier into a building while the other Soviets wipe out the remaining American troops. The Soviet tells "Bell" that Adler fled into the building. They manage to find Adler who is fatally wounded, whom asks "Bell" to hand him his lighter so he can light a cigarette one last time. Whether "Bell" chooses to or not, Adler will be killed by them and the soldier will reveal his identity as Perseus.

"Bell", now reunited with Perseus, is allowed to personally order the Greenlight nuclear bombs' detonation, destroying the reputation of the United States. The two discuss their plans for the future, and leave Duga together.
