He abandoned his damaged and possibly sinking vessel during a surprise attack by Japanese PT Boats and A6M Zeros in Black Cats. He can either be rescued by PO Locke, or he can be killed by enemy fire while swimming. If rescued, he will get into a bunk in the crew quarters in Locke's PBY Catalina.
