Call of Duty: Future Warfare (internally called NX1) was a canceled Call of Duty game worked on between 2011-2012 by Neversoft[1], with a release window for around 2013.[2]
History[]
Following the departure of Vince Zampella and Jason West, as well as half of the staff at Infinity Ward, Neversoft began working on NX1[3], using the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 engine as basis for the game.[4]
Campaign[]
The campaign was set 30 to 50 years into the future[5] with at least one mission, Moonbase Assault being set on the Moon with low gravity gameplay[6].

Factions[]
The game's multiplayer features a faction called the "Eastern Coalition" and during the mission Moonbase Assault, enemy space troops can be seen wearing shoulder patches which appear to have the EC logo in gold in the canton of a red flag.[7] Vandenberg also refers to the EC.[8] The mission Descent is also stated to take place "EC Territory".
The enemy faction in Hit Hard at Home is not explicitly named but the models for the enemy troops,[9] drones[10] and VTOLs[11] are identified as Chinese in the code, while the VTOLs also appear to display the emblem of the People's Liberation Army. This emblem is also on the LGV moon rovers in Moonbase Assault.
Another faction appears to be the National Lunar Energy Agency (NLEA), whose symbol is a white compass star imposed an an atom symbol on a turquoise background. NLEA apparently controls the moon base and the "Energy Relays" and "LSP transmitters" there. The player character John Walker seems to have been connected to them, judging by the NLEA patch on their glove.[12] Advertisements for NLEA can be seen in Hit Hard at Home, stating "harvested from the moon".[13]

Multiplayer[]
The Multiplayer mode featured an Escort mode as well as the first version of Clan Wars, called "The Emergent War" at the time[5][14]. Low-gravity combat was also worked on before being cut and characters' suits would have changed depending on the Perks being used[5]. The Escort mode featured a UGV fitted with a Trophy System that needed to be escorted through several checkpoints.[15]
Many test maps were developed[16][17], although about 4 maps were completed by the time of the cancellation. Two maps are known, "Sandstorm" and "Galleria", both available for the Escort mode.[18]

One thing we really liked in mp was the first Escort mode in COD. There is footage out there on this 👀." - Brian Bright, Twitter/X

This mission was on the moon, some experiments with low g and was really about the team learning the engine. We were making GH games on our THPS engine prior." - Brian Bright, Twitter/X

- ↑ "That's the "Sandstorm" map. We didn't have much of an art team on MP at the time, so the level designers used mainly MW2 assets. This map allowed for Escort mode gameplay, where teams would push a large UGV through the map's checkpoints. The UGV had a trophy system on it." - Brian Bright, Twitter/X
