Campaign[]
- "Combat means making choices - different loadouts, different paths through the mission. In addition to the signature, cinematic Call of Duty® campaign missions, Modern Warfare® III introduces open combat missions that provide more player choice. There is no one-size-fits-all solution - it is your choice whether to take the stealthy approach or go loud taking on any and all foes."
- — Battle.net Description[2]
The Campaign mode of Modern Warfare III was designed and developed by Sledgehammer Games, in partnership with Infinity Ward that continues the story immediately following the events of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II.

Carry Forward[]
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III features a system called Carry Forward. The term “Carry Forward” simply refers to content currently available to players in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 (such as weapons and cosmetic content, including Bundles, Operators, and other rewards and unlocks from the game), and how much of it will be accessible in Modern Warfare III, what includes:
- All Modern Warfare II weapons, including the respective Blueprints of every weapon.
- All Modern Warfare II Operators, including the respective skins of every Operator, and Finishing Moves.
- All Modern Warfare II Customization Items such as Emblems, Calling Cards, Loading Screens, Weapon Charms, Weapon Stickers, Gun Screens, Large Decals.
- All Modern Warfare II Weapon Camouflages (MWII Completionist Camouflages can only be applied to MWII weapons).
Caveats:
- If Modern Warfare III doesn’t have some vehicle, or a specific piece of Tactical or Lethal Equipment in any game modes, any skins that the player unlocked for these items in Modern Warfare II won’t be in Modern Warfare III. In addition, War Tracks (music) is not carry forward from Modern Warfare II to Modern Warfare III.
- There is no “Carry Back” (from Modern Warfare III to Modern Warfare II).
Shared Progression:
- Players can progress level and challenges of the weapons, such as Weapon Camouflage challenges, and Calling Cards of Modern Warfare II in Modern Warfare III and also in any of the two games any time.
Multiplayer[]
- "Modern Warfare® III celebrates the 20th anniversary of Call of Duty® with one of the greatest collections of Multiplayer maps ever assembled - both fan favorites and all new ones. All 16 launch maps from the original Modern Warfare® 2 (2009) have been modernized with new modes and gameplay features and will be available at launch to get everyone started, while over 12 all-new core 6v6 maps will fuel post-launch live seasons."
