Bomb (history - links - logs) Edit

I am nominating Bomb to be merged (back) with the relevant objective pages. I do this for two reasons; Firstly, because we split the page without having an AFD for spliting. Secondly (and more to the actually reasoning) because I don't feel it warrants its own page. The Bomb the page refers to is unique to the gamemodes it was originally on. If we have this page we should also have pages for Dogtags in Kill Confirmed and the Flag in Capture the Flag (which is made better because we already have a flag page for the single player 'weapon').

From the discussion I saw, it seemed the main points was the fact some trivia refereed to the bomb more than the objective, and the fact the bomb exploding made it a separate entity. I disagree with both of these. Firstly, the trivia in question still works on the objective page as it was regarding the bomb arming code, only used when interacting with the point. And the point about exploding, is still from the point being armed, ergo we have no need to cover damage from the bomb, as it the point that is set to explode.

In all, I feel the bomb has no need to have its own page, and should not have skipped the AFD for spliting when there are those, like myself, that oppose it having its own page. 16:42, August 23, 2016 (UTC)

Keep Edit

Pictogram voting keep Keep — I think the Bomb in question is notable enough for a number of reasons:

  1. The bomb has a unique model and purpose, and is actually held by the player, unlike the examples you've mentioned.
  2. The bomb is shared across 3 gamemodes (SnD, Demolition and Sabatage), while the Flag and Dogtags are only in a single gamemode.
  3. The bomb has a minor, but still noticable, role in the Black Ops campaign.

That's what I could think of off the top of my head, but regardless, it is true this should have gone through an AFD first, but the situation should be made an exception due to the circumstances. Capt. MillerTalk 04:13, August 24, 2016 (UTC)

  1. The bomb is only seen used by the player when it needs pick up (like the tags and flags) and when it is being planted. So it's model is still very limited. And as I remember correctly, in third person the player holding the flag has it on their back. Also, the ball from Uplink has more of a purpose than the bomb, yet that doesn't have its own page. It seems we decided to discuss one objective element and excluding the others.
  2. Dogtags are also used in Search and Rescue. Flags have been in modes involving flags (such as one flag). Also, as pointed out in the reasoning above, the "Flag" has made an appearance in WaW single player. Also, the current bomb page has no mention of it's spec ops/single player usage, in fact the page begins with "The Bomb is an objective found in all Call of Duty titles, appearing in Search & Destroy, Demolition, Sabotage." and every section on that page is about its multiplayer iteration.
  3. "Bombs" in general have played parts in all the campaigns in some way or another. I'm not sure which mission in particular you are referring to, so I can't counter it as easily, but "arming explosives" has been in CoD since at least CoD 2 (I very much remember having to walk up to a tank on Veteran to plant explosives on it).
I find there to be no special circumstance here. It was discussed only with 1 user, and then acted upon without discussing the situation with any other user. That excludes other users opinions from being heard, and makes it seem like we only do edits based on what certain users say. 10:26, August 24, 2016 (UTC)
From my point of view, NotLessOrEqual was told the article was ok to make by Ninja, which I'm sure himself was unsure about. Thus, I feel an exception can be made due to the numerous misunderstanding, but we got the AFD now, so I guess there's no point bickering over it. Capt. MillerTalk 12:03, August 24, 2016 (UTC)
This AFD is about putting the pages back. Since the first move was not done with due process it would easily be within my rights to simply remerge the pages and force an AFD for splitting. A decision like that should be up to a single user. 13:58, August 24, 2016 (UTC)

Comments/Questions Edit

I notice the activity has dropped rather suddenly. However what this does show is that myself and CoaZ agreed on the pages being merged, which showcases why the AFD would have been important for the initial split as that means (if we also include Ninja's involvement as a "split") there is an equal opinion on both sides, which also means there was no actual consensus. I want to bring this up mainly because of the forum we have going about bringing life back to the AFDs, in that it goes both ways in that even if they are slow moving, by choosing to bypass them we help aid in their decline. 21:03, August 29, 2016 (UTC)

Closed - More support for the remerger than anything else. This is why splits need to go though AFD in the first place. 04:26, September 25, 2016 (UTC)
