M8A1 (history - links - logs) Edit

Blatantly the same gun as the XM8. 'M8A1' is probably either a placeholder name (which is likely because the screenshot of the M8A1 seems to be from a different version of BOII from the one displayed at E3) or the name of the gun after it's been accepted into US Military service. Comparison: [1] (the only actual difference is the lack of a front sight on the M8A1). Not much point in merging because the M8A1 page contains very little content.

Keep Edit

Pictogram voting keep Keep — My opinion is subject to change, but from now it looks like they're two different guns (the M8A1 also looks a lit bulkier and has a bigger magazine). Also, things may change in development. -- laagone (talk)  13:47, June 8, 2012 (UTC)

Pictogram voting keep Keep — Per MLG. This is a game still indev, so we shouldn't change anything that has been shown to the public till the final release out. Signbot.gif0166.png 16:12, June 11, 2012 (UTC)

Pictogram voting keep Keep — Per MLG. The two guns share some similarities, yet I don't see any proof to state the M8A1 is not going to be in BOII. 16:16, June 11, 2012 (UTC)

Split/Merge Edit

Pictogram voting merge Merge — XM8 merges with M8A1, because they are both the same. Just my opinion. There is no need for it. It's all speculation, so it should be merged until further notice. --Personal AndImBatman Sig imageBats a.k.a Rarity Filly  16:10, June 11, 2012 (UTC)

Looking at MLGs point, there's no proof they are the same. 16:14, June 11, 2012 (UTC)
Apart from them using the same model and 'M8' being the name for the XM8 had it been taken into service with the US Army. Executioner Menu Icon BOIIAugFC Talk Page 16:23, June 11, 2012 (UTC)
But there is no proof that there are not the same. The XM8 will be called the M8A1 after it is deployed by the US Military, so it's obviously the name. The XM8 is just a place holder UNTIL the weapon is finally produced. Regardless what Treyarch has it IS a XM8, it's all leaked anyway. --Personal AndImBatman Sig imageBats a.k.a Rarity Filly  16:28, June 11, 2012 (UTC)
What the US Military would call the weapon IRL and what 3arc wants to name it in the game are two different things. 3arc could have the XM8 and the M8A1 in the game and have them be two different guns. Conqueror of all Zombies 16:32, June 11, 2012 (UTC)
That's all well and good, but why would they use an identical model? I doubt 3arc are that lazy. Executioner Menu Icon BOIIAugFC Talk Page 16:33, June 11, 2012 (UTC)

COD:IRL we can't use IRL info. Conqueror of all Zombies 16:57, June 11, 2012 (UTC)
aaaand we can't use people's opinions either. Executioner Menu Icon BOIIAugFC Talk Page 16:58, June 11, 2012 (UTC)
I know. But there are some differences between the two weapons. I don't see many similarities between the two that makes me think they're the same weapon. Conqueror of all Zombies 17:05, June 11, 2012 (UTC)
The only differences I can see is that the M8 lacks a front sight, which is probably because it's from a different build of BOII. It appears 'chunkier' because the image is stretched. Executioner Menu Icon BOIIAugFC Talk Page 17:09, June 11, 2012 (UTC)
Per AUG and DM, it should stay as M8A1 and delete XM8 and have the information from XM8 goes into the M8A1 article. That would be a good idea, and it should stay like that until we have valid proof that they are different or the same. --Personal AndImBatman Sig imageBats a.k.a Rarity Filly  21:01, June 11, 2012 (UTC)

Pictogram voting merge Merge — I see no reason not to keep the info, the M8a1 is simply the military name. The X stood for experimental, and a1 just means its version. After 13-some years I could see the gun getting past testing if it was reopened. Treyarch seems to be going to realism here, too. I say keep the M8A1 info in the XM8 article because it's just a new name which is likely to be a final version. --KKTech 16:33, June 11, 2012 (UTC)

There is a reason why they make the XM8 and M8A1. I'm not sure why, but I think it's like the reason like XM8 will be a SP-exclusive weapon, meanwhile M8A1 is for MP purpose. Also, clearly the M8A1 has a different model than XM8. Maybe looks same, but there still are some minor modifications Signbot.gif0166.png 05:29, June 13, 2012 (UTC)

Pictogram voting merge Merge — Same gun, same article imo. M8A1 should get a mention on the XM8 page for sure, but I don't think a fuzzy leaked picture of an early build of BOII in which the XM8 is called 'M8A1' deserves its own page. Executioner Menu Icon BOIIAugFC Talk Page 16:38, June 11, 2012 (UTC)

If that's a same gun, why different names in-game? Signbot.gif0166.png 05:29, June 13, 2012 (UTC)
I've already explained why I think this is the case, because clearly the M8A1 screenshot is from a completely different build of BOII. The HUD is different from the version shown at E3, and doesn't match that of the current build's in any game mode. Executioner Menu Icon BOIIAugFC Talk Page 13:45, June 13, 2012 (UTC)
Ofc it's from a different build. As far as we know, BO2 MP uses the different engine from SP. Also, it's unclear that if they make a E3 version, so why makes M8A1 and XM8 at the same time. And last thing, as MLG pointed, this is a game still indev. We are not devs from 3arc, we are not the person who knows everything. So keep it is the best choice. And different HUD, so what. They just release the full in-game HUD, meanwhile the HUD in trailer is BO-based. It's ok for them to decide what to do. Or even if they remove HUD, nothing happended. Comments/Questions Edit

Pictogram voting comment Comment — I think we should close this. --Personal AndImBatman Sig imageBats a.k.a Rarity Filly  22:30, June 15, 2012 (UTC)

Closed - As the game is still in development and things are very likely to change, even multiple times, both articles are kept as they are until new information comes out (and by then we can discuss it again in a new AfD). Also, we shouldn't go by what they are in real life as the primary argument. -- laagone (talk)  21:05, June 16, 2012 (UTC)
