Chickens appear in Modern Warfare 2 and World at War in the single player level "The Hornet's Nest", and the "Bomb Squad", Special Ops level based on the same mission. In multiplayer, they are featured on the maps Strike, Rundown, Karachi and Underpass. They appear in very small cages, flapping their wings and clucking. If shot, they will let out a squawk, spin round, and die in a flurry of feathers and blood.

The chickens are there mainly in the game for cosmetic purposes and do not count for any momentum for killing one.

In World at War, the only chicken to appear is a dead one in the butchers shop in "Upheaval". If shot, it will fall from the wall.

In Black Ops, they are seen running away from gunfire before the player reaches the Rat Tunnel.

Achievements/Trophies

The achievement/trophy "Colonel Sanderson" can be gained by killing seven chickens in ten seconds in "The Hornet's Nest".

An easy way to get this is to go to the back of the market with a LMG and Mini-Uzi or Glock 18 akimbos because of their large ammo and rate of fire. They will probably not need to be reloaded. In an alleyway near the back there are 8 chickens. Throw a grenade at the group of eight run to the group of seven and spray some rounds into them to make sure. The player should get it easily this way.

Trivia

  • When the Tactical Nuke is used, even though all players will die, chickens will somehow survive.
  • The "Colonel Sanderson" achievement is a direct reference to the KFC line of restaurant's owner, who was called Colonel Sanders. It also references Roach's name, whose last name was Sanderson.
  • Chickens do not appear on Heartbeat Sensors or Thermal Scopes, this is likely intended so that they do not distract or mislead the player.
  • Killstreaks do not kill chickens.
  • If the player presses cancel in the final stage of prestiging, they will hear a chicken clucking to mock the player for chickening out of Prestiging.
  • The chickens can be loud. At times it is possible to hear them over the rain in Underpass even when far away.
  • If one shoots a chicken it will be dead on their screen, but it will still be alive on another player's screen.(confirmed on PC). This is likely because of Chickens being considered part of the enviroment, which are not always synced between computers/consoles.
  • It is possible to earn three titles for your callsign with chickens running away from bullets.
  • There is a glitch that rarely happens where chickens can become invincible. One can hear the bullets impacting the chicken and nothing will happen.
  • Chickens are seen in the Call of Duty 4 level The Coup.
  • When seen in Victor Charlie, this is the first time live chickens are ever seen outside of cages in the Call of Duty series.
