Cut Campaign

  • A co-op campaign called a Career was going to be featured in-game, but was later scrapped and replaced by Blackout. It would've followed the events of Black Ops III's campaign in a dystopian future where two factions battled over different objectives in a 2v2 scenario. Before starting your career, the player could select between siding with either the Free People's Army or World United Nations. Siding with either faction would change your campaign experience, with unique missions and scenarios being tied to each.

Cut Campaign Missions

Episode One

  • Data Control - "After the events of Ethiopia, travel to Zurich and sabotage a data center - one containing intel that links the black market convoy's supplier to the World United Nations."

Episode Two

  • Data Escape - "Stop the Free People's Army by any means necessary before they escape Zurich with intel that will globally weaken the World United Nations authority."
  • Snatch and Grab - "Having destroyed the data center, escape Zurich before being apprehended by the Free People's Army."

Episode Three

  • Air Assault Convoy - "Fighting as part of the World United Nations in Ethiopia's neutral zone, launch an air assault on a local convoy and destroy all black market contraband."

Modules

  • Resource Gather - Set within Spain. One team drove a four wheeler through a wide open farm area to meet with a convoy to extract resources from a base. The other team had missiles to fire at the enemy team before reaching the convoy.
  • Go to Ground Vehicle
  • Defend
  • Air vs Ground
  • Go to Noncombat
  • Escort Bipedal

Cut Specialist Missions

After the co-op campaign was scrapped, development on Blackout started. Raven Software started development on an entirely new campaign that reflected Black Ops 4's new direction. Despite numerous prototype missions being created, the mode was eventually scrapped and replaced by the Specialist HQ tutorial missions. Some of these cut missions ranged from entirely new experiences to onboarding missions.

  • Ruin Mission - Only sound files remain. During the mission, Ruin would've needed to use his Grav Slam to destroy military stockpiles of cutting-edge microchips.
  • Recon Mission - Only sound files remain. During the mission, Recon would've needed to track down a rogue asset who has defected to the enemy side.
  • Nomad Mission - Only sound files remain. During the mission, Nomad would've needed to steal critical data from three separate terminals.
  • Breakers - An unused specialist mission that takes place on Seaside and features Ajax. During the mission, the player is given the objective "Find the Aquilus CEO" in a counter-terrorist vs terrorist scenario. Civilians are seen running around the map and must be rescued during the mission. Unused soundtrack and voice acting is also heard throughout the mission. Interestingly enough, the civilians from this mode were later reused for the multiplayer map Masquerade.
  • Vengeance - An unused specialist mission that takes place in Singapore and features Seraph. Only concept art and game files remain. It appears to be based on the mission Vengeance from Call of Duty: Black Ops III.
  • Outback Roadhouse - An unused specialist mission that takes place in Australia and features Erin "Battery" Baker and Torque. During the mission, the player would ambush a caravan that was holding Torque hostage and then escape to a nearby gas station to hold off against waves of enemies.

  • A feature known as "Mag Dropping" was planned for the game, but was removed from the final game. When a player reloaded their weapon and still had ammo left within the magazine, the ammo would be lost instead of going back into the player's reserves. This would've changed how players approached combat engagements. Despite the feature being cut, the stylised HUD showing mag icons instead of a reserve ammo count stayed the same in Multiplayer.

In early builds of Black Ops 4, all specialists had 2 abilities on a cooldown and an ultimate on a score/time system.
