Biography[]
Deadman appears in the ruins of Las Vegas, where he is talking with Alias. As he's driving a Antelope A20, he lets loose with the gun mounted on his left arm, alarming Alias and prompting her to ask what that was. He says he's having a little target practice, and Alias tells him to save his ammo as they're running low on supplies. He tells her not to worry as he will grab a box at the sporting goods store on the way home, and jokingly adds he may pick up a pizza while he's at it, which Alias sarcastically responds to. She asks him about the state of ther condensers, and he reports that it is busted.
Alias wonders if it was the Marshal's work, and Deadman confirms it as it has his bootprints all over it. He says that he is escalating as he is shooting down their supply drones and now he's targeting their water condensers. He then tells Alias that he's going to check the others, but he is expecting the worst before hanging up the call. Alias reminds him to get back in one piece before hanging up as well.
He returns later, waking up Alias from her sleep and informing her that they have a problem; the Marshal has arrived to announce his intentions. He announces through a loudhailer that he's going to make an offer, and if they refuse, he will "firebomb the whole kit n'kaboodle". Alias decides to go outside to see what this is about, but Deadman tells her it's a bad idea as he will firebomb them regardless. She says that she is aware of this, and that's she's going outside to distract the Marshal, to buy them time to figure out something to get them out of their mess.
While Alias meets with the Marshal, Deadman and Ether prepare their fleet of RCs and drones, and they arrive just in time to prevent the Marshal from killing Alias. She quickly hops into the Antelope A20 Deadman is driving and a fierce gunfight ensues, with the Marshal pursuing them in a tank. During the battle, Ether is wounded by gunfire, forcing Alias to take the wheel while Deadman hangs onto the side, planning to attack the Marshal directly.
Deadman leaps onto the tank the Marshal is on, and the Marshal pulls out a spiked wooden club to attack him. But Deadman easily blocks and shatters the wooden club before knocking out the Marshal with a punch. Shortly after that, he apprehends them with Alias and Ether. They discuss their next course of action, with Alias suggesting to head east as she has some friends there who can help them. Just then, Ether tells them that they will be heading to Chicago, and he is shown a picture of Cipher in Illinois.
They soon arrive in Chicago, which is now a desolate, war-torn landscape. Deadman comments that wherever they go, they see signs of Atlas. Ether informs him that this is by design; Atlas had been undermining government institutions for decades, making everyone heavily dependent on their services--and now that they're gone, there's nothing left to fill the gap, which is also by design. Deadman believes that this will make people run back to them, which Ether confirms. Just then, Alias informs them that they have arrived.
They enter The Club, and Deadman checks in his weapons before entering, before greeting Cipher inside. Cipher tells them that ever since the UAC disbanded following the attack on New Vision City, Atlas has dispatched their worst and deadliest crew to take out their enemies, including Ether and Alias; but Cipher doesn't know who Deadman is, so he tells him that he's just a concerned friend. After Alias tells them that she can't find the operators from the UAC in the New Vision City that day, Cipher shows them a log of field performance data on Spectre's armor. Since Deadman doesn't know who Spectre is, Alias tells Deadman about him.
Before the group can discuss further, Ether tells them to get out of there as Nyx, a high-level operative for Atlas, is on-site. As they are leaving, Deadman asks about their weapons, and Ether replies that she will buy them new ones. Suddenly, Spectre attacks them, nearly impaling Ether with his sword only to be stopped by Cipher, who is able to see through Spectre's camouflage thanks to his glasses. However, Cipher is quickly knocked down and Deadman takes his glasses, much to his chagrin and prepares to fight Spectre.
Deadman and Spectre engage in a fierce fight. Even though Deadman has the upper hand initially, Spectre soon manages to tear off his cybernetic right arm, and knocks Deadman to the ground. But before he can finish him off, Spectre is disoriented by Alias' 'non-lethal prototype' weapon. This gives enough time for Deadman to recover and slam a garbage bin into Spectre and against a wall. He retrieves his arm just before he escapes with Ether and the rest of the group.
As they are escaping, he asks where they're going as the car is 'the other way', and Ether tells them that their priority is to put as much distance between them and Spectre as much as they can. Shadowfall soon pulls up in front of them, telling them to get in her vehicle.
Deadman soon arrives in Chicago with the rest of the group. As he disembarks from the vehicle, he asks if Cipher is coming along, which he says no, instead opting to remain in the vehicle, which he scoffs at. He is present when Rampage introduces Foxtrot to Alias, and is also present when she tells them about Atlas Corporation's Iron Will. When David "Section" Mason reports in of an ops team, he remains with Alias' group. He is among the group when he escapes when the protest turns violent thanks to Shadowfall.
Upon arriving in Michigan, he meets with Frank Woods, along with the rest of the group. He is present at the table during Woods' briefing regarding Atlas Corporation as well as their need to find The Director's former associate, Dr. Mendelsohn. However, Deadman steps outside during the briefing to get some fresh air, something that Alias takes notice of. When she goes out to talk with him out of concern, he tells her that he has been hurting since the day of the accident (where he lost his limbs), and while he can keep a lid on it most of the time, there are days that it hurts more than others. She advises him that he should've spoken up about it sooner, as she's a cybernetics expert and she can do something about it, which Deadman expresses thanks for.
Alias soon advises Ether and Woods that Deadman's cybernetics are banged up and worn down, and that he needs a complete top to bottom overhaul, otherwise his implants will kill him.
A long time afterwards, Deadman is seen in Rin Yoshida's office with Shadowfall, requesting for Rin to make him a new cybernetic limb, knowing she had made one that's better than any on the market.
