The Decimator is a character featured in Call of Duty: Vanguard Zombies mode. It is a deity of the Dark Aether and a former commander of the Night Legions.
Biography[]
Netherwars[]
The Decimator was a commander of Kortifex the Deathless' Night Legions who was known to would decimate his own ranks to assure Kortifex's victory. He would fight alongside Inviktor the Destroyer, who he would come to respect for inspiring loyalty among his troops. When the clans of the Dark Aether rose against Kortifex during the Netherwars, the Night Legions lost for the first time. Kortifex singled out the Decimator for this loss and cursed him, trapping him for eternity in his own shield. He was then cast aside in the Corrupted Lands - the remains of what was once the Wilds of the Dark Aether. His time imprisoned in his own shield would both humble him, and cause a hatred of Kortifex to grow within him.
Restoration[]
Sometime after his imprisonment, he was found dormant by Vercanna the Last who took pity upon the former warrior and took his shield with her. Later, Vercanna received messages from Bellekar the Warlock asking for help in their fight against Kortifex on Earth. She sent the Decimator Shield to Egypt where the Scepter of Kortifex was first discovered, but the shield became trapped by Dark Aether crystals powered by Kortifex's Augmentor worms. After Vercanna helped the Allied Special Forces operatives escape Stalingrad, they got rid of the Augmentors and free the shield. However, the Decimator was still dormant. With the help of Vercanna, the operatives subverted Kortifex's Syphoncore blood-rite to transfer the life-energy of the revenants to the shield. Awakened, the Decimator pledged to help the Allied operatives and the other Dark Aether entities in defeating Kortifex. Special Forces would use his shield to free a lost page of the Tome of Rituals from a void spell, a page which detailed how to separate Kortifex from his human host, Wolfram Von List.
Reunion with Inviktor[]
During a mission undertook by Special Forces to restore the memories of Saraxis the Shadow, the Decimator re-united with Inviktor. There, the two discussed their methods of leadership where they both admitted a mutual respect. While Inviktor respected the Decimator long ago for his effectiveness and ruthlessness, the Decimator admitted to always having respected Inviktor for inspiring his soldiers in battle - not through fear, but by virtue of loyalty. The two pledged to finish their fight against Kortifex together, both humbled by their experiences.
