Safehouse[]

Kane: There's something I have to tell you...

Player: Where's Hendricks?

Kane: He's asleep. I'm running him through some DNI diagnostics. Can I trust you?

Player: Can I trust you?

Kane: How about I tell you the truth. When Taylor's team uncovered the Black Project, they threatened to go public. The CIA couldn't take the risk - they were called back to be silenced.

Player: Taylor's still speaking to us - even though we're off the grid. How can that be?

Kane: I think his DNI has become corrupted - that's why we couldn't track his team's location.

Player: But we can track the Doctor.

Opening Cutscene[]

A diagram of Hendricks' mental scan is shown before slowly making a digital face of Hendricks.

Kane: Hendricks. His diagnostics are showing some... irregularities.

Fire then burns on Hendricks' face.

Kane: It could be a minor calibration issue, but I don't want to ignore it. Especially in light of his recent outbursts.

A skull with flames is now shown.

Kane: You know what I'm talking about. That's why you didn't tell him about the tracker you slipped Salim.

Salim can be seen in a room with a window behind him with his armed tried behind his back. The tracker can be seen on his stomach.

Player: We're about to launch an assault alongside the Egyptian army - how do we make sure his head stays straight?

A closeup of Hendricks with his eyes closed can be seen.

Kane: I can adjust his meds remotely - which should help level him out, but we can't let him compromise our chance to grab Taylor.

Light then shines of Hendricks' face.

Player: It won't come to that, Kane. I'll make sure of it.

Hendricks eyes opens, showing the DNI ring around his eyes.

Active Mission - Day 5

Gameplay[]

Hendricks and the Player are in a VTOL above a street in Kebechet, Egypt.

Kane: Egyptian allies are in position. They have the building surrounded - waiting for our go.

The Player then notices that he/she just lost Salim's vitals.

Player: Shit! Kane! We just lost the Doctor's vitals!

Hendricks looks towards the Player.

Hendricks: What the hell does that mean?

Kane: It means he's dead... or about to be dead.

The Player looks outside of the VTOL's door as it opens. The Player looks down at the LZ below.

M. Player: Khalil, have you men hold position. We're coming in for landing.

F. Player: Khalil, have you men hold position. Coming in for landing.

The VTOL sweeps around the LZ as the Player looks out the other door.

Player: We'll sweep the embassy - await our 'all clear'!

The Player looks down as street as a mech piloted by Sarah Hall breaks through a building and latches onto the VTOL. The VTOL then heads crashing down towards the LZ.

Hendricks: Hold on!

Hendricks crash lands the VTOL at the LZ and the Player and Hendricks exit the VTOL wreckage.

Khalil: Manticore operating with a human pilot!

Kane: Looks like Sarah Hall in the cockpit.

The Egyptian Army and Winslow Accord agents begin to open fire on the mech.

Player: You got a fix on Taylor or Maretti? Where are they heading?

Kane: Negative.

Player: Then the only way to Taylor is through Hall. We can't afford to lose him again.

Everyone tries to deal with Hall as well as her Talons.

Hendricks: Hall's on the move! (When Hall is preparing to jump towards a building for the First time)

Hendricks: Eyes up, Hall's taken higher ground! (When Hall is on higher ground for the First time)

Hendricks: Explosive spikes incoming, look out! (When Hall shoots her Spikes on higher ground for the First time)

Hendricks: Javelin missiles incoming! (When Hall shoots her Javelin Missiles on higher ground for the First time)

After doing some damage to the mech...

Kane: Manticore operating at 70%.

Hendricks: We gotta get through her to get Taylor, focus fire!

After doing more damage to the mech...

Kane: Hall now operating at 40%.

Sarah then jumps into a building.

Hendricks: Her shields won't hold much longer.

Sarah then jumps from the building back to the battlefield. After doing lots of damage to the mech...

Kane: Manticore energy down to 10%! She's our only lead to Taylor! Bring. Her. Down!

Sarah then jumps into another building. Finally, after defeating her, Sarah and her mech fall from the building back onto the battlefield.

Kane: She's down, she's down! Hurry, you have to interface before we lose her! We need a full extract. Recordings, intel, memories, everything! Something's got to give us a lead on Taylor!

The Player then opens the hatch to the mech only to find a wounded Sarah Hall in the cockpit.

Hall: Please don't...

The Player is about to interface until Hendricks interrupts.

Hendricks: So this is what we do now? Kill our own because they blew open a conspiracy in our own backyard?

The Player looks at Hendricks then back to Sarah Hall.

Hall: You don't know what this will do...

Player: I know...

The Player interfaces with Sarah Hall.

Player: ...and I'm sorry.

The intel is received. However, a System Failure message appears as an explosion happens. The Player comes to in a blacked out world with trees with a white light glowing on them.

Player: What is this? Kane...? Hendricks...?

The Player then follows the trees with bodies surrounding them. A baby crying can be heard, as well as the voices, not subtitled, of Dr. Yousef Salim and Sebastian Krueger.

As the Player approaches to the first tree with NRC corpses:

Dr. Salim: ...Mr. Krueger. I don't think you quite appreciate or even understand what I'm telling you.

Player: What is that? Is that a baby?

The Player continues on.

Player: Hello...? Is anyone there?

As the Player approaches to the second tree with 54 Immortal corpses:

Krueger: ...Oh I understand, Doctor Salim. I just don't agree on how your perspective - your... limited perspective - should influence my decisions regarding the Project's future. The Corvus Program has been... an unmitigated success. You should take pride in that.

As the Player approaches to the third tree with the Doctor corpses:

Dr. Salim: ...Please listen to what I'm saying! The exchange of information is a two-way street. If you remove humans from the diagnostic loop, there is no way to predict, or control, or influence-

As the Player approaches to the fourth tree with JSOC corpses:

Krueger: ...We're standing on the verge of a brave new world here.

The final tree is seen with the baby.

Player: Hall...?

Hall (with an echo): What did you do to me?

Player: I tried to interface with your DNI... Something went wrong. Can you hear me?!

As the Player approaches to the final tree:

Krueger: ...Zürich is where the Corvus Program can fulfill its true potential.

The Player arrives at the final tree with the baby in a cradle crying.

Player: This can't be...

The Player then picks up the baby.

Player: Kane. Can you hear me? Are you seeing this? Say something. Please!

The baby begins to digitally vaporize. The Player looks up as the screen fades white.

Cutscene[]

A closeup of a man is seen. The camera then pans out more to reveal another man. Again, the camera goes out to reveal it's the room where the Singapore disaster accorded.

Player: It's the Black Project...

Scientists check on the test subjects.

Player: That date... it's right before the whole place blew up. Right before 300,000 people died.

The scientist notice the patients aren't acting right. The main screen shows brain activity of the subjects becoming unstable.

Corvus: This is where I was born.

A scientist with a flashlight looks at a test subject. Suddenly, he begins to shake along with the other test subjects hooked up to the mainframe.

Corvus: A brief moment of agony...

Corvus: ...Then darkness.

The labs starts to fall apart.

Player: Who is that voice?

Scientists try to escape the labs, but Nova 6 floods the room, killing everyone inside and around the facility.

Player: It all started here... the gas. Their experiments let a chemical agent escape into the atmosphere.

The scene then shows the lab as time goes on, with the bodies decaying over time as well as the lab becoming flooded and destroyed.

Player: Sarah... that voice - do you recognize it?

The screen turns white. Smoke then passes by the screen as it turns to Sarah Hall talking to the Player with a fire in the background in Kebechet.

Hall: I remember but it's almost like it's a dream... like it was happening to someone else.

Player: Tell me everything you remember.

Hall: The CIA sent us in to investigate an alarm triggered underneath the old Coalescence facility... we figured that the Immortals had been tipped off.

Smoke then passes by the screen again. The scene returns to the destroyed Coalescence lab as Taylor's Team enters.

Taylor: Check the room.

The team sweeps the room.

Hall: Clear.

Taylor and Diaz look at a deceased test subject's skeleton.

Diaz: Fucking human test subjects?

Taylor: Great. This is in breach of every WA ethics mandate in the book. This is all I fucking need.

Taylor and Diaz walk to Hall and Maretti at the labs' exit.

Taylor: Hall - Call it in. Let's go Immortal hunting.

The scene goes black before going back to Sarah Hall and the Player's conversation in Kebechet.

Hall: We all knew we had just stumbled onto a CIA black program that had been buried for a decade... A program that in all probability has lead directly to the Singapore disaster. We called it in and were ordered back to the black station for "debriefing"...

Smoke once again covers the screen as the scene goes back to Taylor's Team entering the server room of the old Coalescence facility.

Taylor: Alright, you know the routine - secure the area, I'm gonna pull all sensitive information from their servers. Go.

Taylor and Hall then walk to the center of the room. Taylor then interfaces with the central server, but upon interfacing, he is infected by Corvus. Hall notices this.

Hall: Taylor? You okay?

Taylor: Yeah... I'm getting some glitches in my optics.

Hall: Ok. Let me help you re-calibrate.

Hall begins to re-calibrate before she gets infected by Corvus as well.

Gameplay Two[]

The Player spawns in Server Room of the Facility as the floor beneath him/her falls apart and he/she falls into a snowy forest. Sarah Hall then appears before the Player.

Player: Sarah...? Can you hear me?

Hall turns around.

Hall: I know what this is. This is Bastogne. I studied it at the academy. I cited it in my final paper as one of the greatest examples of courage and bravery in military history. One of those battles that show you what you're really made of, who you really are. I used to dream about it.

Sarah flies into the battlefield as time unfreezes and American and German troops resume fighting.

Hall: Follow me. I'll show you what you mean.

The Player moves up and follows Hall.

American Soldier: Congratulations, Private. You drew the shortest straw of all. Welcome to Bastogne. Now get your ass in the front line!

Player: How is this possible?! We're on the battlefields of World War 2!

The Player continues fighting.

Player: This has to be an illusion - it has to be!

The Player pushes through to keep up with Hall as the already dead enemies and destroyed trees & rocks rise up again.

After killing all the enemies, reaching Hall, and Bastogne suddenly turning into nighttime:

Player: Why are we here, Sarah?

Hall: Don't you know? So much suffering. So much pain. It wasn't just the enemy soldiers...

As the Player follows Hall, more enemies spawn in and the ground, ahead and next to the Player, starts to rise & fall. If the Player falls off, he/she will not die and spawn near where he/she had fallen. The Player kills all the enemies and as he/she approaches Hall...

M. Player: The hell was that?

F. Player: What... the hell... was that?

Hall: The Dire Wolves... at first, they scavenged upon the wounded, the weak. Later they went after the strong.

The Player kills all the Dire Wolves that went after him/her and as he/she follows Hall...

Corvus: Listen only to the sound of my voice. Let your mind relax. Imagine yourself in a frozen forest.

Player: Sarah... who was that voice? Have you heard it before?

As the Player reaches Hall, she fell down and screams from the pain.

Hall: ...You forced a DNI interface knowing that it would scramble my mind!

M. Player: You were dying, Sarah... I had no choice.

Hall: Dying??

M. Player: You have to focus... try to remember. What happened at the Black Station?

F. Player: You were dying, Sarah... I had no choice...

Hall: Dying??

F. Player: ...We needed to know the truth.

F. Player: You have to focus... try to remember. What happened at that Black Station?

Hall disappears, the dead end starts to drift away & reveals a hidden tunnel, and some large rocks float from below for the Player to use to reach the other side. The Player navigates inside the hidden tunnel, reaches and enters in a bright white room, fading to black.

Cutscene Two[]

The scene returns to Sarah Hall speaking the Player again in Kebechet.

Hall: We'd uncovered a secret that could destabilize the geo-political landscape and undermine the Winslow Accord forever. We should have known why we were called to base. We couldn't be trusted, they couldn't take the risk...

Hall: When people really wanna bury secrets... they tend to bury bodies right along with them.

Smoke again passes by the screen as the scene shows Taylor's Team in the CIA Black Station in Singapore.

Hall: They said they needed to run a diagnostics check - but that wasn't the truth...

An agent is seen killed.

Hall: We were marked for termination.

While Hall speaks, the scenes show an agent stabbed in the gut by Taylor, another agent held down while he's sitting in his chair covered in blood as he's being killed, a wounded agent having his mouth pulled back by Taylor, another wounded agent having his head smashed on a table and his ear being cut off with a knife by Maretti, another wounded agent being strangled with a fiber wire while Diaz watches, and Hall holding another wounded agent & stabbing him in the face with her knife.

Hall: But by the time we got there, the staff were already dead - carved to pieces by a 54 Immortals enforcer by the name of Jae Xiong. We knew they'd send a wetwork team after us. We had no choice but to cut a deal with the Immortals and get the hell out of Singapore.

Player: That wasn't what happened, Sarah.

While the Player speaks, the scene shows Taylor positioning the remaining dead bodies in their seats while Hall repeatedly stabs a dead agent in his face with her knife as her eyes show her under the influence of Corvus.

Player: We saw the footage from the Data Drives. You did it. You butchered them in cold blood and made it look like a ritualistic killing. You denied them their reincarnation.

The screen cuts to black.

Gameplay Three[]

The Player spawns in the Black Station.

Player: Just like Jae Xiong. Why?

Taylor's Team double check the bodies to make sure it's done and positioned right. Suddenly, the roof breaks apart, pulling the Player back into World War 2 as he/she falls through the roof, into a building next to Sarah Hall.

M. Player: Sarah. Why do you think you're here? What's so significant about this battle, why did you dream about it?

F. Player: Sarah, why do you think we're here? What's so significant about this battle? Why did you dream about it?

Hall: I played the details over and over in my mind. I knew I wasn't strong enough to fight this battle, I knew I wasn't brave enough. When I wrote that paper, I hadn't even seen real combat yet. I had read first hand accounts of what they went through, but I couldn't imagine how they did it - how they hold on.

The destroyed wall starts to be repaired.

Player: Sometimes you have to hold on.

Hall: Sometimes you have to let go.

The three dead enemies start to rise again.

Hall: This - is the path I must take. The path we both must take.

The Player kills the three enemies, heads outside and follows Hall. The Player pushes through more resurrected enemies and repaired environment & buildings to keep up with Hall. Once the Player reaches Hall inside a building, the screen briefly goes white as the Player and Hall are now in the rotated environment. As the Player heads outside, an enemy tank comes out from a building.

Hall: The German Tiger Tank. 'King Tiger' they called it. Immune to most munitions. Are you strong enough to defeat it?

The Player finds an XM-53 and uses it to destroy the Tiger Tank. The Player pushes through and follows Hall, who is on her knees, inside a chapel. After Hall disappears, another Tiger Tank destroys the walls of the chapel, everything stops moving with the exception of the Player, a ball of light grows from the tank's cannon, the screen goes white, and the chapel is repaired & expanded as the Tiger Tank, inside the chapel, transforms into an A.S.P. and more enemies spawn in.

M. Player: This is out of control. We have to stop this.

Hall: Brute force - sometimes that's all that's left - all you have.

The Player destroys the A.S.P. and all enemies disappear. He then goes to Hall, who reappears in the chapel again.

Hall: We killed them. We killed them all in cold blood. I remember 'em but I don't... I don't feel like I remember it...

Hall: Am I losing my mind?... Is this hell?...

M. Player: Sarah... I need to know where Taylor is. This is out of control, we have to stop it.

Corvus: You. Should. Not. Be. Here.

Hall disappears, the chapel floor falls apart, and the Player falls into a deep water with some objects from the chapel.

Hall: Taylor! Taylor! I want to get out of here!

M. Player: We both want the same thing. We both want to find Taylor. Where is he, Sarah? You have to stay with me.

The screen fades to black.

F. Player: This is out of control! We gotta stop this.

Hall: Brute force - sometimes that's all that's left - all you have.

The Player destroys the A.S.P. and all enemies disappear. She then goes to Hall, who reappears in the chapel again.

Hall: We killed them. We killed them all in cold blood. I remember 'em but I don't... I don't feel like I remember it...

Hall: Am I losing my mind?... Is this hell?...

F. Player: Sarah. I need to know where Taylor is. This is out of control, we need to stop it.

Corvus: You. Should. Not. Be. Here.

Hall disappears, the chapel floor falls apart, and the Player falls into a deep water with some objects from the chapel.

Hall: Taylor! Taylor! I want to get out of here!

F. Player: We both want the same thing, we both want to find Taylor! Where is he, Sarah? You have to stay with me.

The screen fades to black.

Cutscene Three[]

The scene returns to the Player and Sarah Hall speaking with each other in Kebechet.

Player: After you discovered the Black Project, you went looking for Salim...

Hall: We traded the intel from Corvus and the black station to the Immortals - their CDP connections gave us passage to Egypt. Once we had Salim's location, we used an NRC assault to make the grab.

Player: What was so important about Salim?

Hall: The Doctor was the only one who knew about the forest. Taylor was obsessed, we all were. He said it was the only place we would be safe...

Once again, the Smoke passes by the screen.

Gameplay Four[]

The Player spawns in a place where Taylor and Maretti are having a conversation while Hall is carving a picture of a large tree on a column, with more large trees already curved, with her knife.

Player: Where did you go, Sarah? Did you find somewhere safe?

Hall: We held up in the old aquifers... and made our plan to snatch Salim.

Player: The Aquifers... the Mobile Water Refineries in the desert? Is that where Taylor and Maretti are heading now?

Player: It must be. Kane should be able to locate the exact coordinates...

Player: Sarah, what happened when you grabbed Salim? What happened in Kebechet? What did he tell you? We need to know...

The screen fades to black and the Player spawns in the building at Kebechet with Taylor performing the interrogation, Maretti keeping an eye out for hostiles, Hall standing behind Taylor and watching the interrogation, and Dr. Salim sitting down on a chair.

Maretti: It's no use - we're out of time. We gotta get out of here.

Dr. Salim: Why are you doing this to me? I have done nothing wrong.

Taylor: You were part of it. You were there from the beginning. The CIA DNI mind control program.

Maretti: Taylor, we got incoming.

Taylor: Hall! Suit up, deal with it.

Hall heads over, gets on, and pilots the Manticore.

Dr. Salim: What do you want from me?

Taylor: Tell me about the frozen forest.

Dr. Salim: Th-The forest is-is nothing. It was just an idea I planted in the minds of the patients... it-it was meant to help them find peace after the experiments.

Taylor: Right, the illegal DNI experiment... hidden beneath a corporate facade, a project that killed over 300,000 people.

Dr. Salim: It wasn't my fault... something happened with software that collated and streamed the test subject's experiences. The project was no longer under control. I was not to blame.

Taylor: Then who was? ...Who was?

Dr. Salim: The... project was under the direct command of... Sebastian Krueger. A senior executive in Coalescence. After the disaster, he relocated to their headquarters in Zürich.

Taylor: Thank you...

Taylor pulls out his MR6 and executes Dr. Yousef Salim. The screen goes white.

Cutscene Four[]

The scene returns to a denial Sarah Hall speaking with the Player in Kebechet.

Hall: This is a simulation, right? Like in training. [Laughs] You're testing me - I know it.

Player: It's not a simulation...

Hall's face turns to realization.

Player: ...It's real.

The screen goes white.

Gameplay Five[]

The Player and Hall spawns in the middle of nowhere in a snowy area at nighttime. While the Player speaks, he/she ends up in a torn, burning building that's surrounding him/her, the environment has destroyed & torn up buildings rise up, a large tree with a lot of branches begins to grow, and Hall is outside near the Player.

M. Player: You heard what the doctor said: the frozen forest isn't real. It was just a way of calming down the test subjects, controlling them. You've been chasing something that doesn't exist.

Hall: I think I know what this is. I know what's happening...

F. Player: You heard what the doctor said: the frozen forest isn't real! It was just a way of calming down the test subjects... controlling them!

Hall: I think I know what this is.

F. Player: You've been chasing something that doesn't exist!

Hall: I know what's happening...

Hall looks at the tree and the screen flashes with the sound of thunder when suddenly...

Player: What the hell is that?...

...Zombies can be heard, as well as Der Eisendrache's starting round theme, as they spawn in and go after the Player.

Player: Sarah - these monsters are trying to kill us!

The Player must survive and kill all the Zombies. While holding off the Zombies, the fire starts to spread in the building.

Player: Hall, if we stay here, we will burn!

Corvus: Let. Her. Go.

Player: Sarah - whoever that voice is, I think it wants to get rid of us.

The Zombies move a bit faster and are a bit more aggressive.

M. Player: Who are you?! What do you want?!

F. Player: Who are YOU?! What do you want?!

Eventually, the Zombies stops spawning.

Hall: The last second surge of chemical and electrical activity in a dying brain...

Hall: Short-circuiting the DNI... a flood of memories and thoughts... half real and half imagined.

Hall looks at the tree again and the screen flashes with the sound of thunder again as the Zombies spawn in again, now fully aggressive and moving faster. The Player holds off all the Zombies and they stop spawning again.

Hall: How do I make this nightmare end?! Please, help me!

Hall starts to move towards and ascends halfway up to the tree as she tells the Player:

Hall: I can't let go. I want this to be over, but I can't make it stop. You have to end it. Please... kill me. Let me go...

The Player puts Sarah Hall out of her misery as the tree shrinks back down into the ground.

Corvus: Listen only to the sound of my voice.

A nuclear explosion is seen as the blast radius moves towards the Player.

Corvus: Let your mind relax. Imagine yourself in a frozen forest.

The screen cuts to black.

Cutscene Five[]

The scene returns to Kebechet as the Player exits the Interface with a now deceased Hall.

Hendricks: So... was it worth it?

Player: They're at the Aquifers.

Hendricks walks away as the Player fell down on his/her knees from the toll and experience of Hall's DNI.

Kane: You okay?

Kane walks to the Player to check on him/her.

M. Player: Kane... the interface just went very... very wrong. It was like I was in Hall's waking nightmare.

F. Player: Kane. The interface just went very... very... wrong. It was like I was inside Hall's waking... nightmare.

Player: But that's not all...

Player: There was something inside her mind. Something born at Corvus right before the accident. It was fighting me every step of the way. It's manipulating Taylor and the others. It made them kill the Black Station staff and they didn't even know. I think it's getting smarter.

After Kane looks around to make sure no one's nearby or watching her and the Player...

Kane: We need to talk.

The screen fades to black and the mission ends.
