"Fetch me their souls!"
— The Demonic Announcer

Template:Infobox/soldier

The Demonic Announcer is a title given to multiple characters in Call of Duty: World at War, Call of Duty: Black Ops, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

Biography

The Demonic Announcer is the title given to the entity that is in control of the Aether's energy, which includes Power-Ups, the Mystery Box and the zombies. Because of this, the Announcer has been (and can be) a number of different individuals, including Samantha Maxis, Edward Richtofen, Ludvig Maxis, Willard Wyler, and Cassandra "Elvira" Peterson, among others.

The Demonic Announcer is heard on every Zombies map except for Dead Ops Arcade, Dead Ops Arcade 2: Cyber's Avengening, and the Call of Duty: World at War version of Nacht der Untoten. Its voice seems to shift through different tones and pitch throughout the game mode.

Trivia

  • The Demonic Announcer is not fully included (except Fire Sale and Death Machine) in the German, Austrian, French, Spanish and Russian versions of Black Ops. However, upon completion of the Richtofen's Grand Scheme easter egg, she appears for the rest of the playtime on Moon.
    • The Demonic Announcer is only present in the revamped World at War maps in the French, Italian, Spanish and Russian versions of Black Ops.
    • In the French, Portuguese and Spanish versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops III, the Demonic Announcer on both The Giant and Shadows of Evil is Edward Richtofen instead of Samantha Maxis.
  • The zombies' eyes will change color depending on who the Demonic Announcer is. Their eyes are red under the Apothicons, Brutus and the entity in House, Facility, Temple and Overlook, yellow-orange under Samantha and Maxis, blue under Richtofen, green under Turned effect, yellow for the Priest and whoever controls the Zombies in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and white under Cornelius Pernell.
    • The eyes are yellow in Shadows of Evil, Der Eisendrache, and Zetsubou No Shima. The controller of this map is unknown, though when Richtofen turns to the announcer he speaks to Samantha.
    • In Origins, although Samantha talks to the characters in Origins, Richtofen claims several times that Samantha is not who she really is. For example, he says that "I do not intend to follow my former friend into insanity. Besides, I know what you really are, Samantha", and "My companions may be easily manipulated, I will not, I know what you really are.".
      • Treyarch's Origins intro cutscene has Samantha's voice completely demonic, supporting Richtofen's claim on the announcer identity. Samantha has a similar demonic voice when she gives power ups, during the Moon Easter egg, as well as Origins' zombie blood whispers.
    • The Crusader Zombies that spawn in main chamber have bright purple eyes in the Origins cutscene. However, their eyes are blue in-game.
      • In the Call of Duty: Black Ops III version of Origins, the Crusader Zombies now have yellow eyes like the rest of the normal zombies, which may imply that they canonically did not have a different eye-color, despite being portrayed as such within Call of Duty: Black Ops II.
    • During the last step of the Shadows of Evil easter egg, the color of the Margwa heads turns from yellow-orange to purple, suggesting someone else controls the Margwas.
  • In TranZit, Richtofen has special announcer quotes that appear only in the first game of the player. On console, they can also be heard upon playing on the "Local" mode. One of the most notable quotes play when the player picks up a power-up for the first time, to which Richtofen replies instead of the standard power-up name: "*Demonic scream that fades into Richtofen coughing* Excuse me, just getting used to the Aether, plays havoc on the pipes, ah.. right.".
  • In Buried, Maxis remains silent when players pick up Power-Ups. Similarly, when the Mystery box moves, the usual "Bye-bye" greeting cannot be heard, and only Samantha's demonic laugh can be heard.
  • In Attack of the Radioactive Thing, Willard Wyler will occasionally taunt her and threaten to send Cassandra "Elvira" Peterson to Nightfall.
  • In Classified, Samantha's demonic announcer lines say "Zombie Announcer", rather than Samantha. What this suggests is currently unknown.
