The Desert Eagle is a handgun featured in every game of the Modern Warfare series, as well as in Call of Duty Online, Call of Duty: Mobile and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare & Modern Warfare Remastered[]

"Semi-automatic with high power. Effective at close range."
— Sidearm description

Campaign[]

The Desert Eagle appears as one of the four side arms available in game, It is the most powerful and also the most rare sidearm in the game. The only level in which the Desert Eagle is available is "Crew Expendable". The Desert Eagle can only be obtained during the campaign if the player runs ahead of the other S.A.S. members in the first cargo hold of "Crew Expendable", at which point an Ultranationalist leaps out of a storage container, armed with a Desert Eagle, and he will drop a second one when killed; it is possible to use both of them interchangeably. It is also seen being given to Khaled Al-Asad by Imran Zakhaev, who then used it to execute Yasir Al-Fulani in "The Coup". A Desert Eagle is also seen being wielded by Imran Zakhaev himself during "Game Over" where he uses it to execute a number of injured S.A.S members, including Gaz. It can also be obtained by using the "give all" console command on PC during the levels "Safehouse" and "Game Over". A two-tone Desert Eagle can be seen in the armory in the mission "F.N.G."

The Desert Eagle is very powerful and will always kill the target with a single shot if it hits, but its high recoil makes it a relatively slow firing weapon.

Multiplayer[]

The Desert Eagle is unlocked at level 43. It is the most powerful pistol in terms of per-shot damage, and can kill in 2-4 shots depending on the range; Stopping Power reduces this to a 2-3 shot kill. Enemies using Juggernaut or Last Stand will require an increased number of bullets needed to kill. While Stopping Power does not make a difference at closer ranges, it greatly expands the distance at which the Desert Eagle can kill in two shots.

Although other pistols can also achieve two hit kills with Stopping Power, the Desert Eagle is unique in that it does not require Stopping Power to achieve two-hit kills, making it the most powerful side arm for players using Perks other than Stopping Power. The Desert Eagle also has the highest hipfire accuracy of any weapon in the game. Unlike most of the other pistols, it cannot be fitted with a silencer. It is the only secondary in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare which can have camouflage applied to it, specifically the Gold Desert Eagle unlocked at Rank 55. This exclusivity is removed in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered however, as all pistols are able to accept. As a result, instead of the Gold Desert Eagle being unlocked at level 55, the Commander Desert Eagle is unlocked instead.

The Desert Eagle is one of the loudest weapons in the game, making it unsuitable for stealth in Hardcore. It has high visual recoil, though actual recoil is quite low.

In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, the Desert Eagle replaces the G18 on the Last Stand perk icon. It also appears as the 22nd weapon in Gun Game. Modern Warfare Remastered introduces new guns that have similar damage profiles to the Desert Eagle: the .44 Magnum and the BR9. The former has only a six round capacity to the Desert Eagle's 7, but can equip the Silencer with no penalties; the latter has a superior 8 round capacity, but has even higher visual recoil, a lower fire cap of 600 RPM instead of 625, and a much longer initial draw speed.

Old School Mode[]

The Desert Eagle appears in Old School Mode with 7 rounds in the magazine and 14 rounds of reserve ammunition. It is available with the standard chrome-plated finish.

  • Ambush - Found on the north-western street in front of the two story house at the OpFor spawn side of the main street, near Last Stand.
  • Broadcast - Found in the bathrooms on the bottom floor, near the G36C.
  • Chinatown - Found in the small alleyway near the market, near the G36C.
  • Creek - Found in the trench located to the eastern edge of the map, near a bulldozer.
  • Downpour/Daybreak - Found next to two sheds near the giant gas tank in the middle of the map.
  • Overgrown - Found on the ground floor of the building south of the river bed with the mounted M249 SAW, near the G36C.
  • Pipeline - Found at the gas station, near Juggernaut.
  • Showdown - Found at the eastern edge of the map.
  • Vacant - Found towards the north-eastern corner of map.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2[]

The Desert Eagle returns in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Although similar to its past version, filling a very similar role, many changes to appearance and performance were made. The Desert Eagle now has a two-tone appearance (similar to the unavailable two-toned Desert Eagle found in the first Modern Warfare and a nonfunctioning underbarrel laser aiming device. Its visual recoil has also increased further from the first Modern Warfare.

Campaign[]

The Desert Eagle is more common in the campaign than it was in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, appearing as the first sidearm used in the game, in the level "S.S.D.D." In the mission "Takedown", Rojas' assistant uses a Desert Eagle to kill two Brazilian Militia members who approached him, and another who tries to ambush him. It is sometimes used in the hands of the Militia. It can also be found in the makeshift hospital in "Of Their Own Accord", right next to Cpl. Keating's computer, and in one of the rooms with the resting soldiers on a small table next to one of the beds. In "Just Like Old Times", it can be found on a green barrel just before the riot shield ambush and in the control room just before Shepherd destroys it. In "The Hornet's Nest" it can be found in the lower scrapyard behind a blue overturned refrigerator. It is also in the armory in "Loose Ends," and Akimbo Desert Eagles can be found twice in the level, "Takedown".

The Desert Eagle is a one shot kill weapon, and is available in more missions than in the first Modern Warfare. However, it's fire rate seems to have been slowed down, and accuracy seems to suffer if fired repeatedly, making precise aiming a must.

Multiplayer[]

The Desert Eagle is unlocked at level 62. In multi-player it appears alongside another very powerful handgun: the .44 Magnum. Since the .44 Magnum is unlocked before the Desert Eagle, has more minimum damage, less recoil and no idle sway, it is much more popular. Although the Desert Eagle's minimum damage is slightly lower than the .44 Magnum, if the player combines it with Stopping Power both guns will kill in the same amount of hits. The .44 Magnum does, however, have a six-round capacity as opposed to the Desert Eagle's seven-rounds. The Desert Eagle also has a faster reload time than the .44 Magnum.

The Desert Eagle, with its high power, significant visual recoil, and distinctive report, retains similarities to the one from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. One new addition is that it now accepts attachments. However, its recoil has been increased considerably by greatly reducing its center-speed. The weapon now sports a darker, two-tone finish. The Desert Eagle is now seen with tactical rails on both the top of the weapon and the underside of the barrel, and it also has a tactical laser mounted underneath. However, this is purely aesthetic, as the Desert Eagle cannot equip any attachments on the rails and players cannot utilize the laser. Another new feature is the addition of a white three-dot-sight setup; however, the sights are misaligned; the front post is to the right of the true impact point. However, the Desert Eagle's sights become centered while using the Tactical Knife attachment. It is one of the two handguns in-game that cannot attach a Suppressor, the other being the .44 Magnum.

The Desert Eagle goes fairly unused online due to its high unlock level and high recoil. However, players that take the time to unlock the Akimbo attachment are rewarded with a powerful and easy-to-use close-quarters weapon. Some players prefer a single Desert Eagle over Akimbo, however, as the single Desert Eagle's hipfire accuracy is higher.

The Tactical Knife attachment, unlocked at 100 kills with the Desert Eagle, actually correctly aligns the iron sights on the Desert Eagle. The iron sight centering has been changed in the Campaign Remaster, as the sights are now aligned properly.

Despite the Desert Eagle's ability to kill in one shot at any range in Hardcore, it is usually passed up for more accurate weapons with the same ability, such as the M93 Raffica.

Special Ops[]

The Desert Eagle is a starting weapon in "Sniper Fi" and "Big Brother". It is an alternate weapon in "The Pit", "O Cristo Redentor", and "Terminal; in the latter two missions, it is possible to find this weapon with Akimbo.

The Desert Eagle is a very effective weapon in missions with Juggernauts, since its high-caliber round can cause them to stagger if used properly and can cause high damage to them.

Demonstration[]

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3[]

The Desert Eagle returns in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. It now appears to have a darker metallic finish and has tritium iron sights. Additionally, it lacks the top rail and underbarrel flashlight from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, looking more like the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare variant with night sights.

Campaign[]

The Desert Eagle is seen in use by Captain Price, Soap and Sandman when they finish off wounded enemies. It is also seen in the hands of Price when he threatens Yuri shortly after Soap's death. In Yuri's flashback, Yuri recalls Makarov shooting him, non-fatally, in the torso. The Desert Eagle is used by Yuri in the missions "Persona Non Grata", "Return to Sender", and "Blood Brothers". At the end of the campaign, Makarov uses a Desert Eagle to kill Yuri, and in an attempt to kill Captain Price.

Once again, the Desert Eagle in the campaign eliminates targets in one shot. It is not nearly as useful as it is in multi-player, and is best reserved for wounded enemies, given its low fire-cap in single-player and low ammunition.

Multiplayer[]

The Desert Eagle is the last handgun unlocked, at Level 76.

The Desert Eagle is the highest damage handgun on offer. At any range short of 8.8 meters, the Desert Eagle will deal 49 damage per bullet, needing three shots to kill. Damage decreases linearly until thirty meters. At any range past thirty meters, the Desert Eagle will deal 25 damage per bullet, needing four shots to kill. The Desert Eagle has multiple body damage multipliers, just like the .44 Magnum and MP412. Any shot to the head, neck, or upper torso will deal 40% extra damage, and any shot to the lower torso will deal 10% extra damage. Up close, these body multipliers are significant, as even a lower torso shot can ensure a two shot kill up close. A shot to any of the 40% extra damage regions guarantees a one shot kill in Hardcore, and three shots to said regions can kill at any range. The Desert Eagle's damage per shot, while high, is inconsistent, as the damage is dependent on where specifically on the enemy's body the bullet lands. The Desert Eagle has medium penetration power, allowing it to shoot through objects with moderate effectiveness.

The Desert Eagle's firecap is low among handguns, but more than fair overall, at 759 RPM, or up to 12 shots per second. This firecap is more than sufficient for most, and oftentimes, the Desert Eagle will demand fire rate pacing. Firing as fast as possible should only be done up close.

The Desert Eagle's accuracy, much like in previous games, is abysmal. The iron sights are perfectly fine, if flat. The recoil per shot is consistent and heavy. The Desert Eagle kicks up and to the right with every shot, with varying intensity. The Desert Eagle kicks to the right with a value of 40 or 50, and up with a value of 60 or 80. This recoil per shot, even when optimally small, quickly adds up with sustained fire. The Desert Eagle's centerspeed is horrible, at 600. Although the MP412 and .44 Magnum have the exact same recoil per shot, the fact that both of them have more than double the centerspeed of the Desert Eagle makes the revolvers significantly more accurate than the Desert Eagle, and makes the revolvers much easier to spam fire without worrying about accuracy. The Desert Eagle very much demands users to get accustomed to its heavy recoil and lethargic recoil recovery. Some will find it easier to fight the recoil entirely and not depend on the centerspeed, and some will also find the Desert Eagle to be better off fired from the hip exclusively.

The Desert Eagle's handling characteristics are good. The Desert Eagle allows users to move at up to 100% of the base movement speed, or strafe at 80% of the base movement speed. The Desert Eagle allows users to aim down the sights in 150 milliseconds, and the hip-fire accuracy is good. The Desert Eagle reloads fairly quickly. The Desert Eagle's reload animation is 1.96 seconds long, or 2.1 seconds long on an empty magazine. In either case, the user can Reload Cancel after 1.43 seconds. This reload speed is a touch slower than most other handguns, but it is fairly fast overall.

The Desert Eagle's magazine capacity is poor. The Desert Eagle holds eight rounds per magazine, and has a starting ammo loadout of 24 rounds. Sustained combat capability is slightly better than the revolvers, but the default starting ammo loadout is the worst in-class, even worse than the revolvers and by a significant margin.

The Desert Eagle only has two attachments available: Akimbo and Tactical Knife.

Akimbo allows the user to hip-fire two Desert Eagles simultaneously at the cost of the ability to aim. This will not allow the user to aim. The attachment will also make the Desert Eagle's hip-fire accuracy worse, lower the firecap of each Desert Eagle to 612 RPM (ten shots per second for each Desert Eagle), and will make switch speeds slower. Despite the numerous weaknesses the attachment has, it is a great choice for the Desert Eagle, amplifying close-quarters killing prowess. It is among the best handguns to use Akimbo, as it has incredible raw damage, sixteen shots before needing to reload, and the increased potential of two shot kills will open the door for the chance to instantly kill an enemy with two trigger pulls. The Desert Eagle's hip-fire precision is made a fair bit worse, but Steady Aim can return it to its original level of hip-fire precision. The Desert Eagle in its solo configuration is extremely difficult to use at range due to its horrid accuracy properties, so the user is not losing much in terms of ranged proficiency when using Akimbo. Using Akimbo also mandates the use of Scavenger, as the already small starting ammo loadout is stretched out even thinner with the use of two Desert Eagles.

The Tactical Knife is the lesser of the two attachment options, but it is the only option available for those who insist on using the solo version of the Desert Eagle. The Tactical Knife improves the recovery speed from performing a melee attack, allowing users to more quickly perform an action after launching the melee attack. It's very helpful for those who intend on using a melee-only playstyle, but it can also help users who make good use of the melee attack in general.

Overall, the Desert Eagle is an inconsistent weapon by design. Its terrible accuracy, incredible but inconsistent damage due to body multipliers, and short magazines make the Desert Eagle a weapon with great potential, but a great likelihood of underperforming said potential. The Desert Eagle's accuracy, while horrid, is something the user will have to learn how to deal with in order to use it. Although the Desert Eagle has the best longer-range damage of any of the handguns, it is mostly put to waste due to the Desert Eagle's inaccuracy forcing very slow fire at ranges where such improved ranged damage would be relevant. In its Akimbo configuration, the Desert Eagle is one of the game's scariest close-quarters weapons, capable of delivering huge burst damage in short order and providing decent margin for error. However, the high unlock level, the need for Scavenger for the Akimbo Desert Eagle, and the general inadequacy of the solo Desert Eagle makes the handgun quite uncommon to see in Multiplayer, although it is capable of being a valuable equalizer in close-quarters combat.

The Desert Eagle is seen in the game mode Money in the Denk, where it is the only weapon available to the Juggernaut carrying the bomb. After dying or planting the bomb, the Desert Eagle will be lost.

Special Ops[]

The Desert Eagle is available for both Survival and Mission modes.

Mission Mode[]

The Desert Eagle is an alternate weapon in the Mission Mode challenges "Stay Sharp" and "Charges Set".

Survival Mode[]

The Desert Eagle is available in Survival Mode at level 11 and costs $250. The Desert Eagle is often favored over other sidearms because of its sheer power, but the Desert Eagle has a small magazine, high recoil, and just slightly higher damage than the other pistols. Like all other handguns, the Desert Eagle is decent for the first few waves but should be exchanged for another weapon after the early waves.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3: Defiance[]

The Desert Eagle makes its first appearance on the DS in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3: Defiance. It has a capacity of 8 rounds. The Desert Eagle in this game has a similar firing sound to the Desert Eagle in the other games, and has less visual recoil.

Campaign[]

The Desert Eagle appears throughout the campaign as both a starting sidearm and a weapon found on top of ammo crates. It has the lowest ammunition capacity out of the handguns and highest recoil, but makes up for this with its power.

Multiplayer[]

The Desert Eagle appears as a locked weapon and requires 500 kills with any pistol to unlock. The Desert Eagle can be used early in multiplayer should the player play One in the Chamber, Sharpshooter, or Gun Game. Retaining all of its qualities from singleplayer, the Desert Eagle can down opponents with one shot. (More than one if they're equipped with the Body Armor perk and/or damage multiplier has been set to low).

Call of Duty: Mobile[]

"The most powerful semi-automatic handgun available, deals heavy damage up to intermediate ranges."
— In-game description

The Desert Eagle returns in Call of Duty: Mobile as the .50 GS. It was added in the Season 12 Going Dark update.

Multiplayer[]

Much like the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare counterpart that it derives its name from, the .50 GS deals heavy damage, able to 2-shot kill from the chest at close to mid ranges, but at the cost of high visual recoil.

The .50 GS was the second gun to feature Akimbo as Weapon Perk which increases the hipfire cone alongside reducing the fire rate of both the handguns.

Battle Royale[]

The .50 GS deals heavy damage, even at long range, making it a very deadly secondary weapon. It a has low fire rate, comparable to that of the J358 revolver. It is not available as ground loot but can be looted in Sniper Challenge and as a Custom Weapon from airdrops.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War[]

"Massive high-caliber handgun that fires devastating rounds with increased bullet penetration."
— In-game description

The Desert Eagle returns in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War as the Hand Cannon, sporting a somewhat rounded design, and a large top-mounted laser pointer.

Campaign[]

The weapon appears in the campaign mission Desperate Measures, when the player is defending the computer they're using to find intel on sleeper agents. It has an integrated laser sight. Additional ammo for the Hand Cannon cannot be found, and once the weapon is empty, it will be discarded. The Reliable perk has no effect on the weapon.

Multiplayer[]

The Hand Cannon was added to Multiplayer as a Scorestreak as part of the Season Four update. It is notably capable of destroying other scorestreaks with one to four shots, making it one of the most devastating anti-streak weapons in the game.

Zombies[]

The Hand Cannon was added to Zombies as part of the Season Six update, coinciding with the release of Forsaken. It can be crafted at the Crafting Table for 50 High-End Salvage. While it retains the ability to one-shot normal zombies from Multiplayer, it's rather ineffective against other types of threats and is considered a less powerful streak. For example, a Death Machine can also one-shot normal Zombies, while firing at a much faster rate and has much more ammunition in reserve.

Gold Desert Eagle and Commander Desert Eagle[]

"Gold plated semi-automatic with high power. Effective at close range."
— Sidearm description
Golden Desert Eagle Create-a-Class
Commander Desert Eagle Menu Icon MWR

Gold Camouflage can be used in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare upon reaching level 55 and in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer via modding. The gold Desert Eagle has exactly the same stats as the normal Desert Eagle, with the only difference being the color and the removed TacLight in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The golden color makes the Gold Desert Eagle generally preferred over the regular Desert Eagle by players. The Gold Desert Eagle is the only golden weapon which does not require any expert challenges to be completed.

The files for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3 contain all the data for the Gold Desert Eagle, though it is inaccessible in those games. Its implementation is almost entirely complete, and it can be used normally in game with a hack such as a Class Editor. This near-complete implementation suggests it was going to be a last-level reward like it was in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, but it was displaced by the AK-47 fairly late in development.

The Gold Desert Eagle also appears in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered. Unlike in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the gold camouflage is acquired by performing expert challenges rather than ranking up. The Gold Desert Eagle is instead replaced by the Commander Desert Eagle, unlocked at level 55. Unlike the normal Desert Eagle, the Commander Desert Eagle is unable to be equipped with a camouflage or a weapon kit.

Trivia[]

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare[]

  • On Infinity Ward's website, the Desert Eagle was voted favorite handgun of the game.
  • The ammo name for the Desert Eagle in the game files is .357 Magnum.
  • Should the player prestige in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, when the last decision about prestiging is made and the player goes to prestige, the firing sound of the Desert Eagle is heard.
  • In the mission "Crew Expendable", it's possible to pick up two Desert Eagles and use them interchangeably without sharing ammo between them.
  • Gunshots from the Desert Eagle can be heard three times in the song "Deep and Hard".

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2[]

  • In "Exodus", a Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare single-tone Desert Eagle can be found next to the dead High Value Individual, but it cannot be picked up.
  • Dunn has the Call of Duty 4 modeled Desert Eagle as a sidearm. It can be seen in his holster in various missions, and he is seen checking it during the first mission of the game.
  • In campaign and Special Ops, the Desert Eagle's maximum ammunition is doubled when equipped with Akimbo. While in multiplayer this is the case for all Akimbo-capable weapons, in singleplayer this characteristic is apparently unique to the Desert Eagle.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3[]

  • The Desert Eagle's rear iron sights were originally green, but in the final release of the game they are orange. This can be seen in a pre-release screenshot for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
    • Also, when looking at the Desert Eagle in the Create-a-Class, it's possible to see that the sights are green instead of orange.
  • All variations of the Desert Eagle are seen in this game. The original variation, in a two-tone finish akin to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is seen, but cannot be used in "Down the Rabbit Hole"; the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 version is used by Captain Price to kill Waraabe, but is also not usable.
  • On the multiplayer map Lockdown, it is possible to see a teddy bear with two golden Desert Eagles in a window sill. It can only be seen through spectating, through Theater, or by using the Recon Drone killstreak reward.
  • On the side of the pistol, it reads "©Desert Hawk Pistol Magnus Research Inc. Minneapolis MN."

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3: Defiance[]

  • When reloading the Desert Eagle, the player inserts an extremely short magazine into the gun, about one third of the size of the Desert Eagle's handle.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered[]

Desert Eagle Commander Camo MWR

Woodland Camouflage on the Commander Desert Eagle

  • Bots have the ability to put camouflages on the Commander Desert Eagle.
  • Bots won't and can't use the Commander Desert Eagle if the player hasn't unlocked it in public match.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered[]

  • The Gold Desert Eagle using the model from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered can be found being held by a teddy bear at the start of the mission "Of Their Own Accord". It has two magazines in reserve when picked up, and it is a one-shot kill against all enemies. The teddy bear is hiding behind some crates and boxes inside the bunker where the mission starts, inside of a dimly lit room. Ammo for it can be refilled using the ammo crates dotted around the mission.
