Double Agent is a multiplayer game mode featured in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War added in the Season Five updates.
Overview[]
Double Agent is a Social deduction game taking cues from Mafia and Trouble in Terrorist Town. Players are split into two factions, Operatives and Double Agents with a single Operative becoming the Investigator.
Double Agents are tasked with either eliminating the Operatives alongside the Investigator or planting and detonating all bombs to win a round while the Operatives must eliminate all Double Agents to win a round. Each round starts with a 25 second preparation phase where weaponry is locked and players are allowed to gather weaponry and are not assigned to any faction. Several areas with a multitude of weapons are designated on the HUD. Weapons and equipment can also be found in caches similar to Fireteam. Upon the phase completion, the roles are assigned to players. A player only knows their own role, aside from Double Agents, and everyone is informed who the investigator is. Everyone may use voice chat to communicate with other players.
Double Agents[]
Double Agents have the objective to either eliminate the operatives and investigator, or detonate the dirty bombs found across the map. They are given access to a private Double Agent channel and have other double agents highlighted. They are given a set of 3 killstreaks, being Counter Spy Plane, Combat Bow, and Attack Helicopter, and given a Gas Mine as their field upgrade. They also possess a Radiation Suit which renders them immune to the area around a detonated dirty bomb. Double Agents win if all Operatives and the Investigator are killed, or if both dirty bombs are detonated.
Operatives[]
Operative is the most common role. They are given the objective to assist and protect the investigator. Several radios are spawned around the map, one of which is active. If an operative or investigator approaches the radio, they can decode the message to find clues as to the identity of one of the double agents. Clues will show the player's gender (of their skin, not the actual player), a number ID with odd or even parity. After the decryption of the 3rd clue, a radius around the double agent's location is revealed, similar to a bounty contract in Warzone. If the double agent is killed, a new set of clues are released. The Operatives and the Investigator win if all double agents are killed, or the time runs out. Operatives may shoot anyone they suspect to be a double agent, but they themselves will be killed if they shoot a fellow Operative.
Investigator[]
The Investigator is clearly marked to all Operatives and Double Agents. There can only be one Investigator per round, and they are given special abilities to aid the Operatives in locating the Double Agents. They have the ability to view autopsy reports, showing the identity of a deceased player, what role they held, what weapon was used, and how long ago they were killed. The Investigator may also track the footprints of the killer prior to the death. They may also issue a Wanted order on a suspected double agent. This instructs all Operatives to kill the target.
