Druon, also called Druon Antigoon or xx_DA_xx, is a group that appears in Call of Duty: Black Ops III and can be found out about in the Data Vault.

Druon is an underground hacker collective, based in Belgium. While its total membership is unknown, various intelligence agencies have estimated that it consists of 50 to 100 members, with a mixture of Grey hat and Black hat hackers. Its members are presumed to be based in or around Western Europe, with its leadership probably based in the Belgian city of Antwerp.

The group's name comes from the legend of Druon Antigoon, a mythical giant that inhabited ancient Antwerp (like Druon themselves). According to the local legend, the giant charged a hefty toll to cross the river Schedlt. If the toll was not paid the giant served the hands of those who refused and threw them into the river below.

History[]

Druon was founded in May 4, 2030[1]. Between 2030 and 2035, they participated in the release of over 60,000 pages of classified documentation. One of the most notable of these was in 2033, when congressional reports of the CIA program Project Udder Chaos were released by Druon. Project Udder Chaos was revolving around a guy named Henri Favager, who is also known as Maurice Baak through the Druon leaks.

The group became notorious in 2037 when they leaked information stolen from the Common Defense Pact's central databases, showing the CDP was making numerous dealings with the Nile River Coalition several years before the NRC became a CDP member. Leaked files included messages directed towards NRC General Abasi Hakim, who appears in the mission Lotus Towers.

In the Data Vault, links can be found to pages by Druon. These can be accessed by going to the page The Truth Depot, by Thread Count and scrolling to the comments section, where a link by ElGiganteX4 (Spanish for The Giant X4), pretending to be a spambot, will offer the player a link to make $84 a hour. This will lead to a page telling the player they have joined Druon, followed by another link to a page by Druon, apparently marking their first year anniversary on 4th May 2031 with the release of 2000 documents. A single line is given in French, along with two sentences in Morse code:

Xx_drUON_Antigoon_XX

For immediate release

May 4th, 2031

Xx_DA_xX

{Nul ne peut passer jusqu'à ce qu'ils paient le péage} (No one can pass 'til they pay the toll. This refers to Druon Antigoon's myth)

The information below is critical to your knowledge. (In morse)

Today will mark our first year anniversary.

In celebration of this event we will release approximately 2000 pieces of truth.

Please enjoy them here.

We will return.

Cordis Die is my one true master. I serve only to expose the truth. Death is not the final chapter. (In morse)

A link is then provided to the documents. Following the link to the documents will show a page from the in-universe website Blogosphere, along with an error 404 message and a message in Morse code. The message is translated as:

The imperialists have found us. Flee while you can. (In morse)

Go to the city of Walcourt for more information. There you will find a market. Seek out the man with the red scarf and tell him "the giant has risen." More information will follow. (In morse)

The number 090501090603 is a reference to Raul Menendez: By removing the zeros from the number, we are left with 951963, or alternatively 9/5/1963 which is Menendez's birth date. The number has also appeared as the bank account used by NRC General Abasi Hakim to receive payment over his hidden help to the CDP, which was leaked by Druon.

The message has managed to catch the attention of the Zombies community. The message arrives from the user ElGiganteX4, taking the name of the zombies map The Giant who was released alongside the campaign. The term "The giant has risen" caught further attention, with several similar statement within the zombies storyline, including Der Riese's level description, saying "The giant is risen". The statement "Death is not the final chapter" has appeared to be another nod towards Zombies. Furthemore, Zombies had several Morse codes, as well as other codes throughout the games, including Black ops III. The message has caught again the attention of the Zombies community with the appearance of the alluded character Doctor Monty. This is because Monty also wears a red scarf. This has become a topic of discussion within the community, and was asked during interviews with developers.
