Dual Wield (also referred to as Akimbo) is a weapon attachment available in Call of Duty 2: Big Red One and in every main game in the series since Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
The term "akimbo", used in most games except Big Red One and the Black Ops series, comes from a human body position, but is commonly used in popular culture as a synonym for dual-wielding.
Call of Duty 2: Big Red One[]
When the player gets eight points in a match, they get the ability to use two Colt .45 pistols when playing as an American or two Walther P-38s as a German at once in the Submachine Gun class, albeit with very limited ammunition. Once the player gets sixteen points, however, they get more ammunition.

Campaign[]
In Campaign and Special Ops, Akimbo is seen on the M9, Desert Eagle, G18, TMP, Mini-Uzi and Ranger. The Ice Axes in "Cliffhanger" are also used in a similar fashion. Akimbo weapons in campaign don't have doubled starting/reserve ammunition, unlike in multiplayer. The only exception is the Desert Eagle, which gets double reserve ammo in both modes.
Multiplayer[]
In Multiplayer, the Akimbo attachment is available to all Handguns, Machine Pistols, Submachine Guns, the Ranger, and the Model 1887. It is unlocked on submachine guns by getting 30 kills with Rapid Fire; for secondaries including handguns and machine pistols, it is unlocked via Marksman challenges. Players are unable to aim down the sight while using Akimbo, although they can still use the knife. As ADS is disabled, any kind of optic becomes useless when using Bling as a perk, nor can they add the Tactical Knife to handguns.
When selected, the two weapons can be fired independently with the aim button acting as the trigger for the left weapon on console versions, while the weapons correspond to the mouse buttons on the PC. Both guns count as a single weapon, so when switching to primary weapons and/or secondary weapons, both weapons are holstered. Each gun has its own ammo counter and can be reloaded independently, allowing the player to stagger their reload time, which can be useful if one weapon is running low on ammo. Using two weapons doubles the supply of stored ammo, making Scavenger less necessary.
Akimbo will also affect the weapons' hip-fire accuracy to varying degrees, depending on the class of weapon. On submachine guns, the hip-fire accuracy will more than halved, but on handguns and the M93 Raffica the hip-fire accuracy is only slightly reduced. Akimbo G18s will actually have better hip-fire accuracy with Akimbo. Using Steady Aim will reduce the hip-fire penalty. Akimbo also creates the unfortunate effect of having a slower draw time, which may be especially important for sniper classes that are ambushed in their hiding position.
Due to being able to fire both weapons simultaneously, certain weapons become particularly powerful with Akimbo. The Desert Eagle and .44 Magnum can both kill a player by simply pulling the fire button for both guns, essentially performing a one-hit kill without Stopping Power. This is also possible on other weapons like the M9 and USP .45, with Stopping Power and at close range. Akimbo P90s will have a total 100 rounds of ammunition available, comparable to an LMG, increased to 150 when using Bling with Extended Mags.
The most notable use of Akimbo was with the Model 1887 prior to patches 1.07 and 1.08. Already powerful at medium ranges, a player using Akimbo Model 1887s could kill a target at impressive ranges with minimal downtime between shots. The Model 1887s have since been patched to have reduced range in Akimbo.
Weapon Differences[]

Call of Duty: Black Ops[]
Dual Wield is a weapon attachment available in Call of Duty: Black Ops. It is identical to Akimbo from Modern Warfare 2, except that it cannot be paired with another attachment in multiplayer via Warlord.
Campaign[]
In Campaign, Dual Wield is only available to the CZ75 pistol and to the MAC11, PM63 and Kiparis submachine guns. For the MAC11, the reserve ammo limit remains the same at 600 rounds, but for the three others it increases to 320 rounds. Note that in the mission Executive Order, some Spetsnaz soldiers can be seen using dual-wielded Makarovs, but the player will only receive one Makarov if they try to pick them up.
Multiplayer[]
Dual Wield allows the player to use a weapon in each hand, effectively doubling the player's firepower. Dual Wield is available for all SMGs with a twenty round magazine capacity, every handgun, and the HS-10. Players cannot equip a second attachment onto Dual Wield weapons via Warlord.
On all applicable weapons, when Dual Wield is selected, the weapon in question will have a larger starting ammo loadout to allow a certain number of full reloads for each of the two weapons. In addition to this, several of the weapon's properties are modified. Most notably, the hip-fire spread will be increased by a varying degree. Handguns see minimal change, whereas SMGs and the HS-10 have their hip-fire accuracy significantly worsen.
Most handguns face two major restrictions when used Dual Wield. On all handguns, when Dual Wield is selected, the weapon no longer uses quick drop and quick raise, significantly slowing down switch times on Dual Wield handguns compared to the handgun's single equivalent. The CZ75 in Dual Wield form is notably exempt from this, as it will continue to use quick drop and quick raise in Dual Wield form. Reload times are also commonly modified. In addition, Dual Wielded pistols cannot be used in Second Chance. Instead, the player will automatically pull out a M1911 with no attachment, regardless of what pistol they are using, even if it's a Dual Wield M1911. These changes can significantly reduce a handgun's utility when needed in a pinch or when the user enters Second Chance.
When the Python has Dual Wield equipped, it gains the effects of the Speed Reloader for both revolvers, allowing for quicker, more consistent reloads.
When equipped with Dual Wield, the Skorpion's damage and range values are modified. The Skorpion's maximum damage is lowered from 50 to 40, meaning a two shot kill is no longer possible without headshots. However, the three shot kill range of the Skorpion is nearly doubled, and the four shot kill range is increased as well, making the Skorpion deal more damage at certain ranges of combat than the standard Skorpion. The Skorpion's sprint-out time is also made nearly 15% faster than the solo Skorpion.
When the Kiparis is equipped with Dual Wield, the Kiparis' penetration power is reduced to low penetration power.
When the HS-10 is equipped with Dual Wield, in addition to facing significantly reduced hip-fire accuracy, the HS-10's maximum range is shortened from 15 meters to 12.5 meters, which will also cause damage to drop off at a quicker rate than other shotguns, and the HS-10's will reload in one single action instead of shell by shell. The reload animation is 3 to 3.4 seconds long depending on if it's a partial or empty reload, but the user can Reload Cancel after just one second.
On the M1911, Dual Wield will increase the firecap of each M1911 from 625 RPM to 937 RPM. The M1911 Dual Wield will also have a 33% faster sprint-out time.
When Dual Wield is used on the CZ75, all recoil values are made 10 points larger, and the sprint-out time is made 50% slower.
Zombies[]
In Zombies, the CZ75 is available in both single and dual-wielded forms in the Mystery Box, and the Wave Gun can be toggled to dual wield mode, in which case it will be named "Zap Gun Dual Wield". Additionally, when Pack-a-Punched, the M1911, HS-10 and PM-63 become dual-wielded (the M1911 gaining the ability to fire grenades).

The only obtainable Akimbo weapon in campaign mode is the M9, which can very rarely be found in "Goalpost", but this Akimbo version is bugged in that it cannot be fired. Grinch also uses Akimbo Desert Eagles in "Down The Rabbit Hole", but these ones cannot be obtained by the player.
Special Ops[]
Akimbo is only usable on the FMG9 in the DLC mission "Black Ice", for the player at the back of the snowmobile. However, after dismounting the vehicle, their Akimbo FMG9s are replaced by a single Five Seven.
Multiplayer[]
The Akimbo attachment is only available to Handguns and Machine Pistols, and is obtained on Weapon Level 5. It functions identically to its Modern Warfare 2 counterpart, except that Akimbo weapons have constant hipfire accuracy; the cross-hairs do not expand while moving.
Unlike the two previous games, Akimbo will not increase reserve ammunition when equipped. This leaves the pistols, excluding the revolvers (they have more spare ammunition by default), with only one spare magazine, making Scavenger a great perk to use if one wants to use Akimbo weapons for more than a couple of kills.
Furthermore, due to a balance patch on every console (except for the Wii version), when the Akimbo attachment is equipped, the rate of fire for each weapon is decreased by 20% compared to that of a single one. This balanced out the notorious use of Akimbo FMG9's.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II[]

Dual Wield returns in Call of Duty: Black Ops II, but this time it is only available in multiplayer and Zombies mode, not in campaign.
Multiplayer[]
It is compatible only with handguns. Using the wildcard Secondary Gunfighter will not work with this attachment, as other attachments will be unusable when Dual Wield is selected. When using Dual Wield, maximum and minimum damage, hipfire spread and range are increased for all guns (the maximum damage is decreased if dual wielding KAP-40 or Executioner). With the exception of the B23R and KAP-40, all weapons have a shorter reload when Dual Wielded. This is most noticeable on the Executioner, which gains the Fast Mag attachment when Dual Wield is equipped. Dual wielded weapons in multiplayer get double reserve ammunition as well.
After a patch, the Dual Wield hipfire spread of both the B23R and KAP-40 was increased, making them less accurate than their semi automatic counterparts. This makes enemies at even medium ranges difficult to kill without having to reload.

Akimbo returns in Call of Duty Online. The difference compared to other games is that both weapons use the same ammo counter that is doubled in the HUD, instead of each one having its own ammo counter per magazine. The attachment usually increases reserve ammunition by 33%-50%, depending on the weapon.

Campaign[]
Akimbo in the campaign is only seen on the MP-443 Grach. It can be taken from enemies who draw it from their holsters after running out of ammunition in "Severed Ties". Keegan is also earlier seen using Akimbo MP-443s in "Struck Down".
Multiplayer[]
Akimbo is only available to handguns except the PDW. Like in MW3, the attachment does not increase reserve ammunition when equipped, making Scavenger or Fully Loaded a good use. However, the problem with the pistols' spare ammunition has been fixed, since now they have an extra starting magazine, effectively having two spare ones when equipped with Akimbo (while the .44 Magnum revolver still has more ammunition by default). When equipped on the M9A1, MP-443 Grach or P226, the fire rate of the weapon is changed to 750 RPM.

Extinction[]
In Extinction mode, Akimbo is available to all of the handguns in Extinction, as the last upgrade for them, costing three skill points. All previous upgrades to the handgun will continue to apply to both handguns in the Akimbo configuration, providing superior movement speed, magazine capacity, range, and/or access to the ARK attachment on both handguns for those that have the Pistol ARK Attachment upgrade.
The attachment transforms the user's handgun into a strictly close-quarters tool, amplifying damage output up close in exchange for long-range utility. In a game mode like Extinction where Cryptids often home in on the player and force close-range engagements on their own, this tradeoff is oftentimes easy to deal with. It often reduces the need to carry an SMG or shotgun since the akimbo handguns will provide ample close-quarters firepower.
For those playing with Pistols Only, it is tougher to justify using the upgrade, since it will mean that the user has next to no presence at ranged combat, which can cause the user to struggle tremendously with Scorpions, Seeders, Gargoyles, Bombers, and Ancestors before they get close. The same applies if the user is making use of shotguns, as the handgun then acts as an extension of the user's range, and forcing the usage of Akimbo would limit the user's ability to take on the aforementioned threats that prove problematic for shotgun users.
Another factor to consider is ammo consumption. As the max reserve ammo of the handguns do not increase with the use of Akimbo, the rapid ammo drain doesn't have a counteracting benefit to compensate. As such, more ammo needs to be dropped if the user is making extensive use of the akimbo handguns.
The Akimbo upgrade for the handguns is one to very carefully consider. It may not be what the user needs for their specific situation, and it costs three points. In some cases, not only will the user prefer one handgun that can aim, but three free skill points to invest elsewhere. Despite the upgrade being potentially unhelpful for some users, it is a decently common to use upgrade and it is quite powerful in its proper use cases.

Akimbo is available to all pistols (except the RW1) and to the M1 Irons special weapon. Additionally, two other weapons, the SAC3 submachine gun and XMG heavy weapon, are Akimbo by default. The attachment does not increase reserve ammunition when equipped. When equipped on the Atlas 45, MP443 Grach or 1911, the fire rate of the weapon is slightly reduced.
The Akimbo attachment is only available in multiplayer and Exo Zombies, though the SAC3 and XMG which are dual-wielded by default are obtainable in Exo Survival as well. In Exo Zombies, only the SAC3 and the M1 Irons are used in akimbo.
After an update, five non-dual wielded supply drop variants of the SAC3 have been added to multiplayer via an update. They have much more differences in stats from the dual-wielded SAC3, compared to the pistols.

Dual Wield is available to all pistols (except the Rift E9) and to the NX ShadowClaw.
The differences for having Dual Wield on a pistol are diverse and significant. All pistols experience a movement speed reduction, draw time increase, and in some cases rate of fire reduction. The NX ShadowClaw, however, has no penalties for being run dual-wielded (aside from the switch and sprint-out times). Once again, dual-wielded weapons get double reserve ammunition.
The Brass Knuckles and Prizefighters are also used in a dual wield fashion.

Zombies[]
In Zombies, the Marshal 16 and the NX ShadowClaw are always found in Dual Wield form, and the GKZ-45 Mk3 wonder weapon is a dual-wielded weapon by default. The Ragnarok DG-4 specialist wonder weapon is also used in a similar fashion. Additionally, when upgraded in the Pack-a-Punch machine, the Bloodhound, 1911 and the MR6 become dual-wielded and start firing grenades.

Campaign[]
Akimbo returns in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. It appears in campaign, where it is available to handguns, and can also be equipped to the HVR submachine gun when all side missions are completed. In addition, the Type-2 assault rifle can be toggled into dual-wielded machine pistols.
Multiplayer[]
Akimbo is available to handguns (including the Hornet classic weapon) and to the M.2187 shotgun. It is also equipped on the HVR - Gemini and the Auger - Fury weapon variants. Additionally, the Type-2 can be toggled into Akimbo machine pistols, the R-VN can be toggled into Akimbo melee weapons, and the Equalizer payload heavy weapon for Synaptic is used in Akimbo by default.
Zombies[]
The attachment can be equipped on handguns and on the M.2187 in Zombies mode, and the Type-2 and R-VN retain their Akimbo functions. In the map Rave in the Redwoods, the "Trap-O-Matic" upgraded version of the Vlad wonder weapon is dual-wielded.

Akimbo is available as an integrated attachment to the Rangers, which were added to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered in the June 27th, 2017 update.
There are also strings referencing separate reloading animations for the M9, USP .45 and Desert Eagle in Akimbo[1], though the attachment isn't available to these handguns in-game.

Multiplayer[]
Akimbo is equipped by using the Duelist Basic Training and does not take up an attachment slot. In addition to its main function, it doubles the reserve ammunition as well.
Nazi Zombies[]
In Nazi Zombies, Akimbo is featured as an unlockable attachment in the mode's Weapon Build Kit. Players can then use their dual pistols as a starting weapon on any map (excluding Prologue). When upgraded, the 1911 becomes dual wielded, regardless if the player has the akimbo attachment or not.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4[]

For the .357, Akimbo blocks the ability to equip Rear Grip attachments to the weapon, and for the Sykov, it restricts the ability to equip Stock attachments.
The Kali Sticks and Dual Kodachis are also used in an Akimbo fashion.
Call Of Duty Mobile[]
Akimbo was added to Call of Duty: Mobile as a weapon perk for the Fennec submachine gun in the Season 11 Anniversary update, and became available for the .50 GS, Dobvra and Machine Pistol in later updates.
The Chopper light machine gun can be used with Akimbo exclusively in Guns Blazing mode and Super Attack of the Undead (when the player is the last survivor).
The Equalizer operator skill is used in Akimbo by default, and the Prizefighters, Kali Sticks and Sai melee weapons are also used in an Akimbo fashion.
As it is impossible to use two fire buttons due to the nature of the game, when using Akimbo, both guns are fired at once, and are reloaded at the same time.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War[]
Dual Wield reappears in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War as a stock attachment available exclusively to Pistols, unlocked at Weapon Level 35. It gives the player access to a second wielded pistol at the cost of the entire removal of aiming and the ability to put optical attachments, as well as a reduction to general movement speed and strafe speed.
The Sai and the Hammer and Sickle are also used in a dual wield fashion.
Within Zombies, if a pistol is Pack-a-Punched with Dual Wield equipped, the second gun gains a unique name that shares with the theme of the original.

Akimbo returns in Call of Duty: Vanguard as a Proficiency which is only available for the Double Barrel, Top Break, 1911, Machine Pistol, and the Marco 5. It gives the player access to a second wielded weapon, but removes aiming completely.

General[]
- In multiplayer, a dual-wielded weapon will only appear to be one gun when on the ground; it will also only appear as one gun when not in use and on a player's back.
- In both Black Ops II and Black Ops III, any gun with Dual Wield will have 8 shots more than double the ammo of the base gun as starting ammunition (16 shots more for maximum ammunition). This means that if fired without reloading, the final magazine will not be full. The only exception is the NX ShadowClaw in Black Ops III, which just gets double ammo.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2[]
- The FAL and the Thumper have coding to use them with Akimbo.
- There are Akimbo TMPs that can be found with Red Dot Sights in "No Russian", "The Enemy of My Enemy", "Just Like Old Times", "Loose Ends", and the Special Ops mission "Snatch & Grab" although the Red Dot Sights obviously have no purpose.
- By killing 10 enemies in a row in Campaign or Special Ops with Akimbo weapons the user will unlock the "Look Ma Two Hands" achievement.
- In campaign, when about to breach using Akimbo weapons, special animation will occur.
- Using the Console Command bg_forcedualwield and setting the value to 1, almost any weapon can be used Akimbo.
- On some akimbo weapons, the left weapon is raised higher up on the screen than the right weapon.
- The attachment was originally stated to be a Tier 2 perk, but was changed to an unlockable attachment in the final release of the game.[2]
Call of Duty: Black Ops[]
- Each compatible gun has a unique icon for the Dual Wield attachment in Create-a-Class.
- The M1911 Dual Wield has a unique empty reload animation; where the player throws the gun where the grip is facing up so he can pull back on the slide, and again throws the gun back in position only to catch it on the grip in his hand and the trigger with his index finger and presses the trigger to make the slide fall back.
- When Dual Wield is equipped on the Python, the left gun ejects shells on every shot, despite being a revolver.
- On many weapons, the firing sounds are slightly different for the left and right weapons.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3[]
- The Akimbo attachment icon shows two FMG9s.
- The Akimbo Five-Sevens have an additional reload time of 0.1 seconds, meaning that they can be reload canceled for an almost instant reload.
- When Akimbo Skorpions are equipped, the left-handed gun is held at an angle.
- On the Akimbo Create-a-Class icon, the first FMG9 has part of the trigger-guard missing.
- On Call of Duty ELITE, the recommended loadout for Akimbo weapons, Steady Aim and Extended Mags, which is impossible, since Akimbo is only available for secondary weapons, which cannot mount two attachments in Modern Warfare 3.
- During Call of Duty XP, the Akimbo Create-a-Class icon was the same Create-a-Class icon from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
- On the Wii version of Modern Warfare 3, using the MP9 Akimbo and firing with the left weapon will not make any sound.
Call of Duty: Black Ops II[]
- Dual Wielded pistols, except the B23R and KAP-40, will appear squished in the killfeed, similar to the MP7 from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and the Default Weapon.
- Whenever a gun with Dual Wield is picked up, it will lose sixteen shots from its reserve ammo.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare[]
- The Akimbo attachment icon shows two Oni pistols.
Call of Duty: WWII[]
- Akimbo pistols feature different inspect animations than their singular counterparts.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War[]
- Dual Wield's icon was originally identical to the Black Ops 4 one, which shows two Saug 9mm, however was patched out to show two 1911s.
- Simultaneously, the killfeed icon for all dual wielded weapons will show the 1911, except for the AMP63, which will occasionally switch between the two kill icons.
