Echoes of a Cold War is the seventh campaign mission in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, returning to the Mount Yamantau facility years after the Kilo One detachment infiltrated the site, to extract containers of a suspected bio weapon.

Plot

Thanks to the intel that Bell and Woods found back in Ukraine, there's an excavation happening at Yamantau to salvage an old mainframe for Perseus. Adler sent Mason and Woods for the mission while Hudson contacts Dimitri Belikov, a KGB insider, for support. After meeting Belikov, Mason and Woods make their way to the old SATCOM building and take out all the guards patrolling the area. The two head inside, where they saw what's left of the building from Hudson's mission in 1968 before they keep moving. Woods overheard the Russian soldiers talking over the radio and translated that they have the mainframe ready for extraction with a crane. Once they eliminate a few hostiles, Mason and Woods leave the SATCOM building and spotted a doomsday bunker with more Russian soldiers, which are dealt with. Mason uses a zipline to get to the bunker, but the cable is cut loose and he falls down to a catwalk, losing his guns in the process.

Using his knife, Mason enters in a tunnel as he passes by or kill some enemies that are guarding a locked weapons locker, as well as those guarding in another room. Mason eventually regroups with Woods, and they go to a room where they search for the dig site and saw a crane that was mentioned earlier. Mason and Woods begin their assault to the dig site and as they're pinned down, Belikov files in and provides air support. After reaching the building that was being excavated, Mason and Woods descend down while Belikov waits for them above. Once the building is clear and they found the mainframe, Belikov lowers the winch from his chopper to Mason and Woods as they hook up the mainframe and begin to ascend while the two hold off the Soviets. Belikov manage to get the mainframe out of the building and flies off with Mason and Woods onboard.

Trivia

• When Woods tells Mason about the scouts on the ridge line, his responses to Mason are randomized.
• If Mason unlocks the locker with a key, a Redeemer can be found inside the locker. Also, a picture of Steiner can be seen, and Mason will see the numbers.
• On certain frozen Soviet corpses, Mason can interact with crossbow bolts previously fired by Jason Hudson during the events of WMD. This will cause him to briefly see the numbers.
  • Also, after leaving the control room, if the player looks to the left, they will be able to see the catwalk that was blown up.
• The player’s ammo will be refilled after knocking down a Soviet soldier after sliding down to the excavation site.
