- For another variant, see FFAR.
The FAMAS is a bullpup assault rifle featured in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops, Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified, Call of Duty Online, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered, Call of Duty: Mobile and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. It was cut from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare[]
The FAMAS was originally intended to be included in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, but was cut during development. Reference to this weapon can be found in the script files for Immediate Action.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2[]
Campaign[]
The FAMAS (referred to as FAMAS F1 in the game files) is found in several levels throughout the campaign, often used by Ultranationalists or Russian Military. In some places, the player can find it with the White Tape Camo, which is unavailable in multiplayer. It is a highly effective weapon, due to the ability to quickly dispatch most enemies with a single burst. However, it is a rare weapon and usually only found in the later missions of the campaign (though occasionally it can be seen in "Cliffhanger"), and it is the rarest weapon in the game when it is outfitted with Woodland Camouflage, which can only be found in "Loose Ends." It can also be found in the campaign missions "Contingency" and "Museum", where it can be seen with White Tape Camouflage.
Multiplayer[]
The FAMAS is unlocked once Create-a-class is unlocked.
At any range short of fifty meters, the FAMAS will deal 40 damage, dealing a three shot kill, or a two shot kill if hitting the head. The FAMAS will decrease in damage linearly until 62 meters. At any range past 62 meters, the FAMAS will deal 30 damage, netting a four shot kill, or a three shot kill with headshots. The FAMAS loses its one burst kill potential at 57 meters, and will always retain one shot kill potential in Hardcore under normal circumstances. The FAMAS has moderate bullet penetration power.
With Stopping Power equipped, the FAMAS does 56 to 42 damage depending on its range to the target, making the FAMAS a one burst kill at any distance, and giving it a two shot kill range of 55.5 meters. A single headshot guarantees a two shot kill.
The FAMAS fires in three round bursts. The FAMAS, within the burst, fires at 1016 RPM. After accounting for burst delay, The FAMAS' maximum rate of fire is 477 RPM.
The FAMAS has recoil values of 35 to the left, 35 to the right, 50 upwards, and 30 downwards. The FAMAS has a centerspeed value of 1200.
The FAMAS allows users to move at 95% of the base movmenet speed, and strafe at 38% of the base movement speed. The FAMAS aims down the sight in 250 milliseconds, and the FAMAS has average hip-fire spread. The FAMAS' reload animation is 2.76 seconds long, or 3.3 seconds long on an empty magazine. The user can Reload Cancel the FAMAS after 2.06 seconds.
The FAMAS' magazine capacity is the typical thirty rounds. The FAMAS has a default starting ammo loadout of ninety rounds.
The FAMAS has the standard assortment of attachments available to it.
The Heartbeat Sensor has an additional effect on the FAMAS in that it will extend the empty magazine reload animation by less than a tenth of a second.

Call of Duty: Black Ops[]
The FAMAS returns in Call of Duty: Black Ops, this time as a fully automatic weapon with an un-capitalized name, as the Famas.
Campaign[]
The Famas can be found in the later missions of Call of Duty: Black Ops, such as "WMD", mainly carried by CIA and Spetsnaz operatives, with various attachments. In the level "Redemption", a Famas with a Reflex Sight and Dual Mags is Mason's primary starting weapon.
Multiplayer[]
The Famas is the fourth assault rifle unlocked in Create-A-Class, and is available for purchase at level 14.
At any range short of 37.5 meters, the Famas will deal 35 damage per bullet, needing three hits to kill. Damage decreases linearly until fifty meters. At any range past fifty meters, the Famas will deal 25 damage per bullet, needing four hits to kill. The Famas' three hit kill range in Core game types stops at 39 meters. The Famas in Hardcore has a one shot kill range of about 44 meters. A headshot will ensure that the Famas is a three hit kill at any range, and a headshot will instantly kill at any range in Hardcore game types. The Famas has medium penetration power.
The Famas fires fully automatically at a rate of 937 RPM.
The Famas has recoil values of 30 to the left, 60 to the right, 60 upwards, and 25 downwards. The Famas has a centerspeed of 1500. This is middle of the road overall.
The Famas allows users to move at 95% of the base speed, and strafe at 40% of the base speed. The Famas has a unique hip-fire spread that is larger than most assault rifles. The Famas' aim down sight time is the LMG standard aim down sight time of 350 milliseconds. The Famas' reload animation lasts 2.5 seconds long, or 3.3 seconds if the magazine was empty. In either case, the user can Reload Cancel after 1.9 seconds.
The Famas has a standard magazine capacity of thirty rounds per magazine. The Famas gives users a starting ammo loadout of 120 rounds.
The Famas has the usual assortment of assault rifle attachments, which all function as normal.
The Famas was nerfed in the update coinciding with the release of the Annihilation Map Pack. In this update, the Famas experienced the following nerfs:
- The Famas' centerspeed was reduced from 1600 to 1500.
- The Famas' recoil values to the left and downwards were made larger.
- The Famas' aim down sight time was increased from 250 milliseconds to 350 milliseconds.
- The Famas' hip-fire crosshair size was increased.
- The Famas' raise speed was made slower.

Zombies[]
In Zombies, the Famas can be acquired only from the Mystery Box for 950 points. It has a high fire rate and power, but ammo becomes problematic as the player is likely to burn through it quickly. As with most weapons, it is most efficient to go for headshots, since the Famas only requires a few bullets to kill a zombie even past round 8. Overall, it's not an ideal weapon to use, as the reserve ammo is very low, added on top of the high fire rate which could leave the player dependent on Max Ammo or their other weapon after one or two rounds. Its killing power is not very hindering, though, and does not require perks to use effectively.
When Pack-a-Punched, it becomes the "G16-GL35". The gun comes with an increased magazine capacity and adds a Red Dot Sight with a happy face reticle but with a random color. It is one of the weaker assault rifle upgrades, having among the lowest bullet power and ammo reserves, only on par with upgraded SMGs. Its killing power is on par with assault rifle standards, but relying to a different weapon when ammo becomes an issue will be frequent. The AUG is a better alternative to this gun, although it will always use the Swarovski Scope. The only thing this gun excels at is killing George A. Romero, as it has a 9x multiplier on him.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3[]
The FAMAS was scheduled to make an appearance in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. It was most likely going to be in the hands of GIGN, and appears to be replaced by the Type 95. It was cut fairly early in development.
Call of Duty: Black Ops: Declassified[]
The Famas returns in Call of Duty: Black Ops: Declassified. Not much is different than the Black Ops variant besides a higher recoil pattern.
Call of Duty Online[]
The FAMAS reappears in Call of Duty Online, and now fires in four-round bursts.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare[]
- "A 3 round burst bullpup assault rifle. A well placed burst can be extremely deadly at intermittent ranges."
- — In-game description
The FAMAS returns in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare as the FR 5.56.
Overview[]
Campaign[]
It is used by Urzikstan Liberation Force and Al-Qatala.
Multiplayer[]
The FR 5.56 is a 3-round burst assault rifle that is unlocked at rank 16. The gun will kill in 3 shots anywhere to the body within 30 meters for a 1-burst kill. After 30 meters it will need 4 shots to kill, so two bursts are required unless part of the burst hits the head. 1 headshot lowers the gun to a 2-shot kill within 30 meters and a 3-shot kill outside of this range. This high damage is reinforced by an impressive c. 1000 RPM within the burst (with the last bullet being fired slightly faster than the second one). This makes the FR 5.56 very deadly when it kills in a single burst, as essentially it is capable of scoring a kill within c. 0.11 sec + bullet travel time. However, the practical burst delay of 0.3 sec means that aiming and getting each burst onto target is essential for success.
Unfortunately, the FR 5.56 features some mediocre handling to offset the high damage. It has the widest hipfire of the assault rifle class. Hipfire is only effective at very close ranges, though landing all 3 rounds of a burst will result in a kill. Regular sprint-to-fire time is also relatively slow (c. 0.265 sec). The FR 5.56 is also one of the slower assault rifles to ADS (which takes c. 0.3 sec). This is a notable weakness since hipfiring is inaccurate and precision is so important due to the burst delay. Each burst also suffers from moderate vertical recoil, so landing a full burst at long range is often difficult. Fortunately, the weapon resets between every burst so additional bursts will generally rest back on target quickly. The FR 5.56 is extremely deadly at midrange but tough to use in tight spaces and over very long sightlines.
Like most assault rifles, the FR 5.56 features a wide set of attachments to customize it for a variety of ranges and situations. Attachments that boost ADS speed such as the Stippled Grip Tape and FSS Tac-Wrap will help alleviate the sluggish ADS time. Some attachments that affect recoil control or recoil stabilization will help reduce the recoil of each burst for improved accuracy. Replacing the iron sights with an optic can be a useful choice to improve target acquisition. The FR 15.9" Commando barrel will boost ADS and move speed for more aggressive use. Conversely, the FR 24.4" Sniper barrel will slightly hinder mobility but will increase the 3 shot kill range to 40 meters and slightly improve recoil.

Call of Duty: Mobile[]
- "Fully automatic assault rifle with high fire rate. Effective at medium range."
- — In-game description
The FAMAS returns in Call of Duty: Mobile as the FR .556. It was added in January 2021 as part of the Season 1: New Order update.
Multiplayer[]
The noticeable differences of the FR .556 compared to its counterparts in some other CoD games is that the gun's fire mode is fully-automatic instead of 3-round burst, and it does not kill in 3 shots. It deals rather high damage when hitting the chest, but the gun will suffer from damage penalties upon hitting the belly and especially legs. It also does not have increased headshot multipliers. However, the gun does not suffer from damage drop until past 30 meters, making it extremely effective at mid-range fights. The gun does have a lot of recoil, which kicks mainly upwards. However, bear in mind that it also have very unpredictable horizontal recoil, which might cause problems fighting at longer ranges.
Battle Royale[]
The FR 5.56 does not current spawn as ground loot. However, it can be used like most other firearms as a custom weapon from airdrops.

Trivia[]
General[]
- In both Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops, there is an unusable bipod on the side of the weapon.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2[]
- In the "Museum", the FAMAS' sights has "Infinity Ward, Encino CA" written on it. This is a reference to Infinity Ward's headquarters, which is located in Encino, CA. This is also seen in Multiplayer.
- There is a non-functional laser-emitter mounted on the side. It is most noticeable when camouflage is applied or in the Create-A-Class picture.
- With the Heartbeat Sensor equipped, the reload animation changes slightly.
Call of Duty: Black Ops[]
- The name for the Pack-A-Punched Famas, G16-GL35, is leet speak for "giggles."
- Below the iron sights, the player can see "III-ARC FIREARMS," which is a reference to Treyarch.
- In the Playercard weapons section, the Famas will not have a pistol grip, but a trigger guard similar to that of the AUG.
- On the left side of the gun "86-2" is engraved. This writing is most easily seen in "Redemption" when Mason holds the Famas diagonally or if an underbarrel attachment is equipped.
- Also engraved on the side is "MAS .223" and "SA 3750402."
- On the Create-A-Class display, the Famas' magazine goes through the player model's right forearm.
- On the Wii version, the sound files for firing and reloading the gun are different from those on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC versions.
- When a camouflage other than gold is applied, the tape on the weapon's stock changes color to match the gun.
- The drawing and switching animations change when it has an empty magazine.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare[]
- In early gameplay footage, the FR 5.56 was referred to as "FR .556".
- In the reveal trailer, an Al-Qatala terrorist can be seen firing the weapon in fully-automatic mode. This is not seen in gameplay as the FR 5.56 is a burst-fire weapon in-game.
- In Multiplayer, the FR 5.56 has a different reload animation and base design when using certain blueprints such as "Insurgency", "The Artisan", or "Fractured".
Call of Duty: Mobile[]
- Interestingly, the gun seems to have been built as a burst weapon, as its extended magazine holds 39 rounds, which the M16, a 3-round burst weapon in the game, also has. The FR .556 was also noted to be a burst-fire weapon in early promotional material.
- When the Bipod is attached, the weapon will use its integral bipod.
- The weapon's model is based on the "Anomaly" blueprint from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
