- "First, there will be Factions in Black Ops 4 Zombies, complete with their own quests and narratives. These Factions will add another dimension to the story, as players choose to side with the Bloodfaith, Tempus Novi, Dustborn or The First Legion. Who do you stand with, and what does that mean as you progress along that path?"
- — Treyarch
Factions, also known as Faction Callings, is a feature that was supposed to be released within Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Zombies mode. Factions were announced by Jason Blundell and Craig Houston during a Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Zombies panel at San Diego Comic Con in 2018.[1]
On January 15th, 2019, Treyarch announced that Factions would be released in Black Ops 4 "later in 2019"[2]. On March 14th, Treyarch stated Factions were planned to be released during Operation Spectre Rising[3] which ran between April 30th and July 16th, 2019. No detail has been revealed since March 2019 and was quietly canceled, Contracts serve as its replacement.
Overview[]
Factions were announced as a "full season of 12 unique challenge events across all Zombies maps and game modes" that would reward players with "never-before-seen character customization loot".
Factions were also supposed to "add another dimension" to the Chaos storyline as players could choose to side with four different factions, Bloodfaith, Tempus Novi, Dustborn or The First Legion. The Factions would expand and flesh out the Zombies universe with each event culminating the Faction-based narrative. Jason Blundell explained that they would "add a new layer to the Zombies experience, who do you stand with, and what does that mean as you progress along that path?"

Trivia[]
- One of the Zombies Dark Ops Calling Cards for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 called "All the Facts" requires players to "Complete all Factions in Faction Callings Season 1". Players are currently unable to acquire the calling card to unlock the Dark Ops Master calling card.
- This also hints there were several seasons of Faction Callings planned for the game.
- On November 5th, 2019, the "All the Facts" Dark Ops was replaced by the "One of Us" Dark Ops which requires half the Zombies Dark Ops to be acquired.[4]
