"Gentlemen, we've fought a whole bunch of these, so I know you know what to do. But indulge me. Move quickly, cover your buddies, don't bunch up - and for heaven's sake, don't stop moving 'til we reached those bunkers."
Captain Foley's speech before the attack

Festung Recogne (Fortress Recogne) is the twenty-fourth campaign mission and final American campaign mission in Call of Duty and Call of Duty: Classic. Private Martin and Captain Foley must raid two bunkers and collect whatever documents the enemy has inside.

Plot[]

A historical documentary cutscene reveals the situation in the war so far. Major defeats, such as the Normandy landings in June 1944 and the Battle of Stalingrad in January 1943, have severely weakened German fighting strength as the war enters its final months. While Soviet forces drive the Germans from Russia and Poland and push into Germany itself, Western Allied bombers level German cities with impunity. The understrength Luftwaffe cannot match up to its Allied opponents, and the surface fleet and U-boats of the Kriegsmarine are mostly destroyed with its sailors pressed into land service to bolster the Heer's flagging manpower. Unable to defend German territory, the Nazis use experimental V-2 Rockets to launch terror attacks against London.

Since December 1944, the German counterattack in the Ardennes known as the Battle of the Bulge had begun, with the 101st Airborne Division surrounded in Bastogne by German forces. On the afternoon of January 15, 1945, Captain Foley, Private Martin, and their squad prepare to attack two German bunkers. Foley explains to them that they need to space out, cover each other, and advance rapidly on the bunkers. The paratroopers advance across a snowy field under heavy artillery fire, while one of them is killed by a German minefield. Moving down a slope, they are finally clear of the bombardment and eliminate an advanced German detail. Foley, Martin, and the others cross a bridge over a frozen stream and assault the bunker. After dealing with the exterior defenders, Martin clears the interior and takes a folder of German documents.

The Paratroopers move across the road to the second bunker, eliminating the MG42 gunners. Martin enters and clears out the bunker, taking more German intel. When the bunker is clear, Foley tells Martin of a German counterattack coming over the ridge. Martin takes out a FlaK 88 gun crew and uses the gun against two approaching Panzer IVs, while German infantry pushes up alongside them. The tanks may destroy the gun, in which case Martin will have to use Panzerfausts to take them out. Once the two Panzers and German infantry are dealt with, Foley kneels down, removes his helmet, and expresses relief that the fight is over.
