Afghanistan (Persian: افغانستان) is a country in Central Asia. It is seen in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Islamic Republic of Afghanistan), the Nintendo DS version of Call of Duty: Black Ops and during the Call of Duty: Black Ops II (Democratic Republic of Afghanistan) campaign.

Appearances[]

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2[]

Afghan soldiers are seen for the first time during the training of a few soldiers of the ANA in Fire Base Phoenix. The mission Team Player takes place during the combats in the Red Zone. The mission "The Enemy of My Enemy" is set in a boneyard, U.S. Vehicle Disposal Yard 437, near Kandahar. The missions "Just Like Old Times" and "Endgame" are set at Site Hotel Bravo.

The multiplayer maps Afghan, Invasion, Rust, Scrapyard and Trailer Park take place in Afghanistan.

Call of Duty: Black Ops (Nintendo DS)[]

Afghanistan appears in a flashback sequence spanning three missions in which Sgt. Yuri Raslov, a defector from the Soviet Union, recalls his fateful time there in 1963. He was sent to the country to assassinate a double agent with Cpt. Kovics and Sgt. Vastov. Shortly after doing so, the three were forced to escape to a river while being pursued by the agent's allies. Shortly after reaching safety, Kovics and Vastov unexpectedly betray Raslov, claiming that such act would be a great sacrifice for their nation. Disarmed and left to die, Raslov eventually fights for his own survival, eventually leading him to be discovered by a few American soldiers whom he agrees to ally with. Together, they battle more Afghan rebels while driving a truck to safer territory.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3[]

The multiplayer map Lookout takes place in Afghanistan.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II[]

In 1979, the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan. During this time, the CIA joins forces with the Mujahideen, the Afghan resistance, during the Soviet invasion. In 1986, Alex Mason and his team are sent there to investigate Raul Menendez's involvement in selling firearms in the mission Old Wounds. They eventually help fend off a Russian attack on a Mujahideen compound in Afghanistan. At one point in the mission, Mason rides a horse to evade enemy troops through Afghanistan.

In 2025, the Russian foreign minister wants to negotiate a peace treaty with the Afghan president. In response to this, Raul Menendez places an assassination order on the Afghan president. Joint Special Operations Command is tasked with providing over watch for the government's convoy in the Strike Force mission I.E.D.. If the player succeeds in protecting the government's convoy, Afghanistan does not join the SDC, but if the convoy is destroyed, Afghanistan allies themselves with the SDC.

The multiplayer map Dig takes place in Afghanistan, being a remake of the map Courtyard from Call of Duty: World at War.
