"One land. One army. One mission."
— Megaton

Megatons, also referred to as Rad Z in the games files are an elite class enemy in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War introduced in the Zombies map Die Maschine, while also appearing in Dead Ops Arcade 3: Rise of Mamaback and Outbreak. They also appear on Zombies Onslaught in which they were the only Elite that could've been found, until the release of Firebase Z, where the Special Class enemies Mimics and Manglers were added to the rotation. They are extremely muscular zombies that produce large amounts of radioactivity to the point of producing an audible Geiger crackle when spawning, they also don a heavily damaged orange hazmat suit that bares patches of Omega Group. Megatons spawn two rounds after the Pack-a-punch has been built or on Wave 15 if the power has not been restored in Die Maschine, while they spawn randomly across the map in Outbreak. Megatons also make an appearance in Mauer der Toten during the Tin Man Heart main quest, and in Forsaken during the lockdown step when obtaining Samantha's Ballad.

Overview[]

Megatons as a combative threat is extremely high, being able to disrupt players due to their ability to lob two types of radioactive blasts. A singular blast that deals high damage on impact while leaving a zone of radiation that deals lingering damage that ignores Armor and a trio of smaller, faster blasts. Whilst in melee range, the Megaton will swing wildly being able to deal upwards of 125 damage per hit on higher rounds. Upon depletion of its health, the Megaton will become temporarily invulnerable and start to split into two forms - the Megaton Bomber and the Megaton Blaster, these split forms have each only one of the blast types. Bombers can only throw singular bombs while Blasters fire trio blasts but they still have access to the Megatons melee strength. However, If hit by a moving vehicle anytime. There is a chance the megaton will not split at all. Megatons take extra damage from Dead Wire.

The projectiles fired by the trio of Megaton forms are unique in that they can be destroyed while inflight if they hit an active Ring of Fire Field Upgrade with the Tier II upgrade or absorbed by the secondary fire of the Decompressive Isotopic Estrangement Machine, regardless of the configuration it is in.

During Seal the Deal, a unique form of the Megaton called the Mayak/(Megaton Overlord) can be encountered in the Dark Aether. A Mayak will also spawn during the boss fight, outside of the Dark Aether. The coloring of its hazmat suit is grey/black and the radiation color is of an orange/red tone. The Overlord variant makes a return in Outbreak as targets for the elimination main objectives or distress call side objectives.

Throughout Die Maschine, deceased Omega Group personnel like Orlov can be found around the map. Some of these are wearing hazmat suits, the same one that the Megatons can be seen wearing. Furthermore, Soviet Union logos and patches can be viewed on the hazmat suits, as well as the Megaton, alluding to their Russian allegiance. The same can be seen on the Heavy Zombies, where the same patches can be found on their armor.
