The Wii is a console manufactured by Nintendo. In the Call of Duty community, it is noted for its versions of the games being inferior. There are several reasons for this, most notably the lack of power in comparison to the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, which result in decreased visuals and some gameplay mechanics being removed, and the Wii not having as large of a focus on internet connectivity like most other consoles of the generation, as a result the online modes are more bare-bones then other versions of the games, among other reasons.

Errors and Omissions[]

A list of features removed from the Wii versions of the game, most due to lack of processing power or RAM:

All[]

  • Graphical fidelity and render resolution are significantly lower on the Wii versions of the game.
  • The target frame rate is usually around 30FPS instead of 60FPS, making movement appear less smooth and precise aim more difficult.
  • KillCams and final KillCams are not present in any games.
  • Lobby Sizes are limited to 10 instead of 12 and Ground War modes (18 players on other versions) are missing entirely.
  • Private match customization is limited compared to other versions.
  • No DLC map packs available.
  • No achievements or trophies.
  • Players are required to exchange "Ally Codes" in order to create parties due to the Wii's lack of centralized account system.
  • The option to restart at the last checkpoint in campaign missions is absent.
  • Split screen mode is not available.
  • No in-game host migrations.
  • No third-person mode.
  • In addition, certain glitches on the surrounding environments will sometimes allow enemies to shoot the player through some surfaces, posing a greater challenge to the player.

Call of Duty 3[]

  • No type of multiplayer is present, neither split screen nor online. This also means that the M1911 and Walther P38 are unusable, yet they appear in the bonus content.
  • The weapon models are recycled from Call of Duty 2: Big Red One, rather than using the new models introduced on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game.
  • The STG-44 has the same firing sound as an M1897 Trench Gun.

Call of Duty: World at War[]

  • Zombies is completely missing.
  • Co-Op Campaign is also gone.
  • There is no voice chat in Multiplayer.
  • The Ray Gun Easter Egg is unavailable in the level Little Resistance.
  • Only eight maps are available in Multiplayer.
  • All maps that have tanks in them are not there. Because of this, the Reconnaissance perk is gone.
  • Signal Flares are not available, and Shades are omitted.
  • Even in the late campaign levels which take place three years after "Vendetta", Viktor Reznov's hand is still injured and wrapped in a bloody bandage.
  • The "Black Cats" level is missing.
  • Death Cards are not in any of the campaign missions.
  • Sniper rifles cannot be steadied by having the character hold their breath.
  • Gore and gibbing is not seen anywhere in the game, but blood is present.
  • Semper Fi:
    • Where the bright light shines at the dead soldier booby trap, the light does not blind the person briefly. All the enemies will be visible during the flash.
    • Sometimes the Katana-wielding Japanese soldier will drop an Arisaka while he is tumbling to the ground. If the player is quick enough, one can press and hold the reload button to get it, once the player regains control of Miller.
    • The Japanese officer at the start is wearing a hat.
    • Pvt. Cook disappears after the player is rescued.
  • As of May 20, 2014, online multiplayer is no longer supported for the Wii version of Call of Duty: World at War due to the closure of Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection servers. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Reflex, Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, however, are still playable online, as they run off Activision servers instead of Nintendo servers.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Reflex Edition[]

Call of Duty: Black Ops[]

  • The player is not automatically presented with adjusting the game's audio and visual settings upon accessing the main menu for the first time.
  • As with Call of Duty: World at War on the Wii, gibbing cannot be done in the campaign. However, gibbing is in Zombies mode.
  • In Multiplayer and Zombies, the M1911 lacks the nickel-plated finish, instead retaining the parkerized finish used in the campaign. This is also reflected in its multiplayer icon.

Campaign[]

  • Operation 40:
    • The ending of the level is a video.
    • The woman dancing in the bar is wearing a white dress with red flowers as opposed to a red dress with white flowers in the other versions of the game.
  • Vorkuta:
    • The slingshot is replaced by a flaming crossbow and there are four positions to destroy instead of three.
    • The Prisoner talking to Reznov in the elevator will always have a different character model.
    • The two prisoners that would normally help the with the slingshot are still present. One will be using the crossbow and will be shot and killed. The other just stands there, and when the player picks up the crossbow, he randomly disappears.
    • Reznov's lines do not match up with the subtitles. An example is when Reznov says "See how Mason's ingenuity turns junk into weapons.", he actually says "See how supplies scavenged from the infirmary and a little of Mason's ingenuity can make junk into weapons."
    • Molotov Cocktails are not available.
  • The missions "U.S.D.D." and "Revelations" are played as cinematics, and give the player zero control over the camera.
  • On "U.S.D.D.", most of the scenes are cut out.
  • Executive Order
    • The two Russian soldiers Woods and Mason meet are wearing gas masks.
    • When the rocket has taken off, if the player looks at the launch silo, it is possible to see that the bottom section of the rocket is still present.
    • When the player throws the guard off the roof, they can look down and see the same guard standing on a staircase, seemingly unharmed.
    • The rocket explosion is replaced with a white, fuzzy screen that looks like static.
  • The Soviet defector in the level "The Defector" does not appear and is instead replaced with a dead marine.
  • On "Numbers", no lightning is present.
  • On "Project Nova", when walking up to the door to the room where Steiner is, the door will not open with a dead Nazi soldier coming down the other side. Instead, it will just directly go to the cutscene.
  • On "Victor Charlie", after detonating the C4 the player's weapons are replaced by a Commando and M1911 instead of a Commando and WA2000. As a result of this, the WA2000 does not appear in the campaign.
  • On "Crash Site", the boat battle sequence at the beginning of this level was cut.
  • WMD:
    • The player has an AUG with a Siberia camouflage instead of a Yukon camouflage.
    • Bruce Harris wears a tuque instead of a balaclava and has a black mustache.
    • Terrance Brooks wears a balaclava and goggles.
  • Rebirth:
    • The second intel is in a different location. Instead of it being in the gas chamber, it is in Hudson's part, after the would-be third intel. It is at the bottom of the staircase shortly before entering the lab that Mason also entered, after the player gets off the elevator.
    • Two of Reznov's lines are slightly different.
    • When Reznov shoots Steiner, the scene whites out then transitions to room 9 instead of immediately transitioning to room 9.
    • The necrotic effects of Nova 6 are not present. As a result, when Fulsang dies, he appears to be completely healthy.
  • Revelations:
    • Some lines were cut, such as Hudson arguing to Weaver that Mason knows where the broadcast station is.
    • All three intel pieces are automatically given to the player after the cutscene.
  • The campaign missions "Crash Site" and "Redemption" are shortened.
  • Redemption:
    • The helicopter sequence at the beginning of this level is not present, starting from the point where Mason and Hudson jump out of the destroyed chopper.
    • The Valkyrie Rocket Launcher is replaced with the Strela-3.

Zombies[]

  • Zombies is now present, but only Kino der Toten is featured. The Five opening video is featured in the game files, however.
  • In the zombie map Kino der Toten the mystery box in the first room is slightly different than the other systems, being at the top of the left set of stairs rather than to the right of these stairs. Because of this, a glitch is possible, as there are four small indentations in the floor not visible at the surface. Standing in these indentations cause the zombies to gather underneath the player, on the ground below, the player can then shoot straight through the floor at the zombies.
  • In Samantha's Room, the large teddy bear is holding a Bowie Knife.
  • The Pack-a-Punch Machine consists of brighter colors.
  • Pack-a-Punched weapons are given a camouflage which is somewhat green with yellow engravings, much like a real circuit board.
  • On Zombies Mode, if the player obtains the Thundergun from the Mystery Box on single-player before updating their game by going online, it is possible to ADS with the Thundergun. It is also possible to reload mid-magazine on single-player before updating the game by going online.
  • The Spectre, FN FAL, RPK, Dragunov, L96A1, Python, single CZ75, and China Lake are missing from the Mystery Box.
  • Mule Kick is absent in Zombies.
  • Until the player goes online at least once, activating the Easter Egg Music will cause an off-screen Monkey Bomb to state "Hope you're ready for a surprise!" and nothing will happen.

Multiplayer[]

  • The following weapon fire rate discrepancies are present, as the frame rate can only accommodate half of the possible fire rates seen with 60 FPS.
    • 750 RPM weapons have a reduced fire rate of 600 RPM.
    • The Famas fires at around 857 RPM.
    • The fire rate on the G11 is slower than the one in the console/PC versions, being the same as the M16.
  • When reloading the Python with Speed Reloader, the player can see more of the gun being reloaded than on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC versions of the game.
  • The Makarov inflicts a higher amount of damage.
  • The ASP, MP5K, and Makarov, use their beta bullet firing sounds.
  • The MPL has a different bullet firing sound.
  • For the M16 and Skorpion reload animation, the player's arm can be seen grabbing the new magazine from off their chest.
  • The Low Power Scope has no sway.
  • The Skorpion has no recoil.
  • WA2000:
    • The second sound effect when firing is not present.
    • When gold camouflage is equipped, the stock does not turn synthetic.
    • The gun lacks a cap over the scope. Despite this, when picking up the gun the player will still perform the action for raising the cap.
  • The following graphical differences on guns are present:
    • On the RPK, the handguard is black unlike the usual wooden guard.
    • The AUG is grey instead of olive and its scope is not covered by camouflage.
    • On the HK21, the handguard and stock are black instead of tan.
  • The sight of the M72 LAW has cracks on it.
  • The Crossbow bolts flash less.
  • Rapid Fire has no effect on the MAC11, Uzi, PM63, MPL, Spectre, and Kiparis. However, the Uzi's accuracy is still decreased.
  • The Flamethrower attachment is not available.
  • The Camera Spike equipment is not present.
  • Flashbangs only have one detonating sound effect, which is the one used on the normal versions of the game when it detonates far away from the player.
  • Concussion Grenades have a different detonating sound effect.
  • The Motion Sensor does not have a radar sweeping effect.
  • Jammers immediately jam the player's map instead of decreasing quality as the player approaches them. The jamming graphic is not animated and is different from the animation on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC versions.
  • The icon for the Scout perk is the L96A1 instead of the Variable Zoom attachment.
  • Hacker shows enemy equipment in orange instead of red, and will only show equipment through walls within a certain distance.
  • The RC-XD's boost function is unlisted. Furthermore, only the host of the match is able to activate it, with the exception of Combat Training where all players can activate it.
  • The Valkyrie Rockets, Chopper Gunner, and Gunship killstreaks are all missing.
  • The Napalm Strike's targeting icon is different and is similar to the ones of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's airstrike icon.
  • The following customization options are not included: Clan Tag, Reticle, Face Paint, Background, Emblem Editor, and Playercards.
  • The Combat Record has the following discrepancies:
    • Career: Less records
    • Weapons: No heat map tab, images only shown for weapons.
  • There are less multiplayer player character dialogue lines, announcer lines, match/round ending themes, and thirty second end-of-match/round themes.
  • The Tropas spawn theme is completely different.
  • The models for the Black Ops faction are different than the models for the PC and consoles.
  • The map icon for a player in Second Chance is the icon for an enemy player firing, but with larger edges.
  • No glass is found in any multiplayer maps, not counting car windows.
  • Array:
    • The door on the nearest wall parallel to the crane is not present.
    • In the room accessed via the stairs from the tunnel, this room has no lighting and the cabinet is replaced with a table.
  • Crisis:
    • The map was removed from Team Deathmatch shortly after release.
    • The balcony around the chimney is not present.
    • The map is set during the nighttime as opposed to the evening.
  • On Cracked, the Asian-style boats behind the SOG spawn point are absent.
  • On Firing Range, the player cannot drop down into the cabins of the black Special Forces Jeeps.
  • On Grid, the door on the wall in the perch area is white instead of grey.
  • Havana:
    • The map is the size of the Wager Match Havana. Because of this, the team spawn locations are relocated to the square rooms used to access the middle of the map.
    • Havana was removed from all objective game modes, and is only playable in Team Deathmatch, Free-for-All, and Wager Match.
    • The Wager Match Havana map has all doors open as opposed to some doors being closed as to seal off certain parts of the stage.
    • The sky is cloudier, which changes the lighting of the stage.
    • The wall facing the street and parallel with the Tropas spawn exit has three slits on it that can be used to see the area opposite the wall.
  • WMD:
    • The middle building lacks lights.
    • The end of the hallway near the Spetsnaz spawn point is black.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3[]

  • Because of the fact that the Wii console doesn't have much RAM, if the Wii is detached from its port or from its internet connection, after some time and months, the Wii will bug itself when connecting to internet, causing the data of progress for multiplayer and spec ops being lost and remained to the servers.
  • Unlike the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 version, an internet connection is required to play Spec Ops Survival Mode even when playing Solo mode.
  • There are not as many announcer quotes for Survival Mode. For example, in the other versions, there are Overlord's quotes like: "Hostiles approaching from multiple directions." or "Beware, tangos reported to have C4 strapped to their chest." In this version however, the announcer (Overlord) will only say "Hostiles inbound." or announce the names of special units. Also, there are only two different quotes for when the player spawns.
  • There are no Special Ops missions, although Survival Mode is present. Also, an internet connection is required to play it even in solo mode.
  • All dead animals are missing in Back on the Grid and Village.
  • Like the PC version, Call of Duty ELITE is not supported.
  • Theater Mode is not present.
  • The Recon Drone, Predator Missile, Reaper, Osprey Gunner, and AC-130 are not present (though the Predator Missile is still available by means of hacking).
  • Unlike other systems, the Prologue and the flashback seen in the mission Blood Brothers are simply videos of the sequence, rather than being able to move around.
  • No Gun Game, One in the Chamber, Team Juggernaut, Infected or Drop Zone game modes (though hackers have hacked into the game finding them in hidden files and playing them in private matches).
  • No Community Playlist modes.
  • The Hardcore Ricochet game mode is missing.
  • The Akimbo MP9's left gun has no sounds when fired.
  • Almost every full auto weapon in the game has a different rate of fire of roughly 600 or 900 RPM. This is due to the limited number of frames-per-second.[1] However, because the frame rate is variable, weapons will still sometimes fire at slightly different rates.
  • Breakable glass windows (animation of breakable class not available) do appear in all maps on cars and jeeps, but only on the buildings in Carbon and Outpost.
  • The effect of seeing booby trapped Care Packages in red while using SitRep isn't available, but it will highlight the package with skulls.
  • Some weapons (such as the M4A1) have different reloading sounds.
  • In "Dust to Dust", after the helicopter crashes at the end, the player is not able to see Price's reflection against the broken glass.
  • In "Dust to Dust", the security camera showing Makarov and his security in the atrium is missing.
  • Sandman does wear his signature sunglasses, but they are of a yellowish transparency, not reflective silver.
  • Vladimir Makarov has shorter hair.
  • The French edition of Modern Warfare 3 for the Wii seems to have recycled the "Intel" text that appears during the loading of a multiplayer match. Intel is recycled from the two previous Modern Warfare games.
  • Leonid Pudovkin has the same outfit as randomly generated agents, not his green vest.
  • The M.O.A.B. countdown didn't sound like the same from the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 or the PC versions, instead, the countdown sound reused the Tactical Nuke sound from Modern Warfare 2.
  • Aim-assist is significantly less effective than in the HD versions and the Wii version of Black Ops. This was likely done to close the gap between the classic controller and the Wiimote because in Black Ops the aim-assist gave gamepad users a much higher advantage over Wiimote users.

Additions and Improvements[]

To compensate for the lack of many features, Treyarch has added several new elements, changes and improvements that are exclusive to the Wii versions of the games.

All[]

  • The Wii versions allow the player to customize their hip-fire reticle, unlike the other systems. (However, the reticle can't be customized if the player is using the Classic Controller (Pro)).
  • The player can send text messages to their "allies" who are people that can be added as friends while online.
  • The player can also twist most weapons sideways via motion control.
  • The crosshairs do not center in the middle of the screen (unless the player is using the classic controller (pro)). Instead they move all over the screen and the camera turns direction when the crosshairs exit the "dead zone". The screen stays still when the crosshairs are within the dead zone. The size of the dead zone, camera speed, cursor speed and overall sensitivity can be customized in the options menu. The reason for all of this is to get smoother aiming when using motion controls.
  • Various other actions are done using certain movements of the remote. For example, if the player is using the Wii Zapper controls, approaching an enemy and pushing the Wii Zapper forward will cause the character to knife them.
  • Whenever the player is using certain Sniper Rifles (such as the RSASS), a cursor moves around the screen to indicate whether or not the gun is pointing in or out of the dead zone. This makes it easier to accurately fire from the hip when using a scoped weapon.

Call of Duty 3[]

  • The player can simulate the characters actions during melee fight scenes by moving, swinging, shaking or flicking the Wii Remote and Nunchuck like a left arm and right arm.
  • The iron sights on the STG-44 are easier to use.

Call of Duty: World at War[]

  • The game mode "Team Survival" appears as a Wii exclusive.
  • The M2 Flamethrower has a different reticle.
  • The Iron sights on the Kar98k are different.
  • The M1 Garand has a faster ADS time when equipped with the scope.
  • Squadmate Mode appears as an exclusive, it allows two players at a time to play on a single screen. Though there are several limitations to it and what the second player can do.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Reflex Edition[]

  • Squadmate mode returns from Call of Duty: World at War.
  • The "Ragtime Warfare" cheat is replaced with a unique "Paintball" cheat.
  • The "A Bad Year" cheat requires the player to get a headshot or the enemy will not spawn tires.
  • Host Migration is added. It is available from the lobby.
  • Party and Friend invite systems have been improved.
  • The Player has the option to lean left or right by twisting the Wii Remote left or right. This is convenient if the player needs to toss a grenade around the corner of a wall.
  • Team Tactical's player limit is increased from 6 to 10, and Free-For-All's player limit is increased from 8 to 10.

Call of Duty: Black Ops[]

  • The AUG is available to buy on the podium on Kino der Toten.
  • All Pack-a-Punched weapons are green and the Porter's X2 Ray Gun is black and orange.
  • The Pack-a-Punched Ballistic Knife will revive a down player when meleeing them.
  • Extended Magazines increases the player's reserve ammo capacity.
  • Ghost Pro protects players from Attack Dogs.
  • The Attack Helicopter is much stronger and fires faster than in other consoles/PC. This is likely to balance the lack of some killstreaks.
  • The Multiplayer map "Jungle" is more convenient for stealth and campers, as it includes more patches of grass and bushes, and the player has the ability to go prone while in the river.
  • All pistols, and most SMGs are held with one hand to allow for weapon twisting.
  • It is possible to ADS straight down.
  • Using the Akimbo Kiparis will gain them their stocks.
  • Compatibility with the Classic Controller (Pro).

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3[]

  • The EMP Grenade is more effective, as it can take out killstreaks like the AH-6 Overwatch, Pave Low, and even Escort Airdrop in a single hit.
  • The M240, which is not available in the console/PC versions, can be found and used in the Wii version of "Goalpost".
  • During the UGV sequence in "Persona Non Grata", when the player looks at Yuri on the laptop, his model is used (the one seen in "Dust to Dust"), unlike in the other versions where Kamarov's model is used instead.
  • In "Blood Brothers" Price does not say "Get off me!" to a nearby guard or "I'm sorry" to Soap after the latter dies. He just simply grunts as he shoves the guard away, and lays the pistol on the table with Soap.
  • The maps are less detailed, with less clumps of grass and clutter objects like boxes and barrels.
  • There are no Ghillie Suits on snipers but hooded suits with some camouflage on them.
  • The Riot Shield does not crack when shot at because of graphic limitations.
  • The EMP's white flash is missing, making it easier to see when it's activated.
  • The background music is more enhanced at some scenes (such as in the beginning of Black Tuesday, where Frost and Sandman climb out of the crashed truck).
  • The P90 seems to have a gold paint job.
  • Compatibility with the Classic Controller (Pro).
  • The Impact and Breath proficiencies are awarded with the Specialist Bonus.
