"Welcome to Stalingrad. You are about to begin the greatest moment of your life. "
— The beginning of Durasov's speech.

Commissar Viktor Durasov is a Russian soldier appearing in Call of Duty: Finest Hour. During the Second World War, he served with the Red Army and participated in the Battle of Stalingrad.

Biography[]

Not One Step Back[]

On 20 September 1942, Commissar Durasov was in command of a small rowboat ferrying members of the 13th Guards Rifle Division, including Private Aleksandr Sokolov, across the Volga River to join the fighting in the city of Stalingrad. He performs an inspiring speech as the boat crosses the river, even whilst coming under fire from Junkers Ju 87 strafing the river. When a pair of soldiers attempt to flee by jumping into the river, Durasov fires at them with his Tokarev TT-33 while reminding the other soldiers that "cowards and traitors will be shot." When the boat arrives at the docks, he urges Sokolov the remaining soldiers forward into the battle.

He is encountered later on directing an assault on an oil refinery, ordering a head-on charge against a fortified machine gun emplacement. However, Sokolov has partnered with Sergeant Oleg Puskov and the pair successfully flank the German position, allowing the Red Army troops to storm the facility. Durasov notably holds back from the assault, hiding behind the exterior brick wall.

Quotes[]

"Welcome to Stalingrad. You are about to begin the greatest moment of your life. The Germans have lost hundreds of tanks and planes. Hitler's brutalized hordes are now are now advancing towards Stalingrad over mountains of their own dead bodies. Our Bolshevik Party, our nation, our great country, has given us the task not to let the enemy reach the Volga and defend the city of Stalingrad. Forward against the enemy! Up into the unremitting battle, comrades, for Stalingrad, for our great country! Not one step back! Cowards and traitors will be shot! Do not count days, do not count miles, count only the number of Germans you have killed! Kill the German - this is your mother's prayer. Kill the German - this is the cry of your Russian earth. Do not waver! Do not let up! Kill! Death to the German invader! Go, go, go!"
— Commissar Durasov's speech to the men of the 13th Guards Rifle Division.

Trivia[]

  • Like in Stalingrad level from Call of Duty, the boat (which moved the main character to the beginning of the level) along with part of dock explodes, but Durasov miraculously survives. However, in PS2 version, the boat remains intact until the player loses sight of it.
  • At the very beginning of the mission, when the player gets Mosin-Nagant ammo you can turn around and see that first soldier on bridge has Durasov's model.
