A flame tank is a tank with a flamethrower instead of a main cannon. While near useless at long range, it makes up for it by devastating enemy forces at close range. Some flame tanks were able to project flaming gasoline 75m. They were used in WW2, but they were few and far between. They were extremely effective in the jungles of the Pacific, where they could set alight the vegetation. Flame tanks, and flame boats, were used in the jungles of Vietnam during the Vietnam War.
In Call of Duty: World at War
The flame tank seen in Relentless
The flame tank is first seen in the mission Relentless, and the player must support it by moving up with it. It is shown spraying enemy soldiers 'relentlessly' with its flamethrower, instantly killing them.
The flame tank is also present in Blood and Iron, but it is not a true flame tank, it still retains its main cannon, the tank has what is more or less a 'coaxial flamethrower'.
Trivia
- The flame tank in Relentless can kill you if you step into the flames.
- The Nickname for the flamethrower on the tank is called the Zippo named after the lighter company, Zippo
- The Soviets really did have the T-34 variant seen in Blood and Iron, with the belly machine gun being replaced by a flamethrower. It was called the OT-34
- If playing co-op on Blood and Iron, only player 1 will have the flame thrower. This is the same on all missions with a flamethrower.
