Whilst looking at another Wikia looking for some information I noticed they had separated Single Player and Multiplayer details via a tab system. I feel this made the page look quite tidy and I believe this could be incorporated into our pages. We could do this by adding game tabs to weapons and characters that appear in multiple games, such as the M4A1 and M1911. The page I saw this being utilised on was this. 06:20, October 22, 2012 (UTC)
I have made a sandbox of what this could look like here. 06:32, October 22, 2012 (UTC)

DiscussionEdit

Comment/Question - I like the idea, but the current version doesn't look good in my opinion, at least on mobile layout. And why does there have to be "action=render"? --MLGisNot4Me talk 06:39, October 22, 2012 (UTC)

I assume it has something to do with the tab coding. 06:50, October 22, 2012 (UTC)

Pictogram voting support Strong Support — I like the idea of doing different tabs for different games. Keeps it organised and is very sexy. Will we put game specific Trivia in each tab? Iw5 cardicon soapN7 TC 06:40, October 22, 2012 (UTC)

As shown in my example we will put all game-specfic info in its own tab. 06:50, October 22, 2012 (UTC)

Support - It really trims down the length of the page so that viewers can see information for their relevant game much faster. I'm sure there are people who have given up on finding info for MW3 because it was all the way at the bottom. But, PLEASE make sure you change the colour of the tab when you hover over it. Pale blue is definitely not right for the current theme! 222 talk08:42, October 22, 2012 (UTC)

Pictogram voting support Strong Support — Hi, im just a fan of the game and i contribute elsewhere and just came across this subject. The tabs used are known as DPL (Dynamic Page Listing) the functions use the
<tabview></tabview> <<<<tags.

As questioned above by [-MLGisNot4Me] why dose it use the "action=render". Basically say you have the article which in question is the "M4A1" article you would create subpages ie M4A1/COD4, M4A1/MW2 & M4A1/MW3 so that when you use the "tabview" extension on the main article and click on any of the tabs it renders the article from the sub page to be viewed on the main article under the tab. Apart from the first tab all the other tabs haven't been loaded/downloaded to view yet so it renders them through when clicking the corresponding tabs. you can define which tab loads first by placing
||true

on the tab to load first upon loading the page in the code. < (which is used in the example by "crazy sam above). The whole point from "tabview" functions is to make less data downloaded when viewing a page to make quicker load times for which the rest of the information has to be rendered.(which is fast) And helps organize your page layout much better. As per [-MLGisNot4Me] again. DPL is unlikely to work on a mobile but you will need to seek more information regarding that. I will support the request (if i can) as i know the use of DPL well and what is dose achieve for a wiki.

Just a heads-up, please don't create links that have no destination, it's a violation of COD:RED. 09:28, October 22, 2012 (UTC)

Pictogram voting support Support — A set of manual links to each section might be worth adding as a redundancy for if the tabs fail to work in some unforeseen event (example being someone tries to load up the page with a broken browser) but I think this is a great idea. This is the best sig I can make (talk to Grif) 10:58, October 22, 2012 (UTC)

If the tabs fail they provide manual links automatically in their place :)

Support - I really like this idea. It tidies the Article up, and even makes it extremely good (in my opinion, at least). Madnessfan34537 lL5xjBH.png 11:02, October 22, 2012 (UTC)

Pictogram voting comment Comment — - Just saying, the tab system doesn't work on Monobook. Iw5 cardicon soapN7 TC 11:05, October 22, 2012 (UTC)

It does work, just not as visually well. Clicking the render options loads up that part of the page. Ergo clicking all the tabs will cause the page to look like it does now. 11:12, October 22, 2012 (UTC)
Looks like this if i click the tab. JLkfS.png Iw5 cardicon soapN7 TC 11:21, October 22, 2012 (UTC)
I really like this idea, but I have this same issue. Semtex HUD icon MW2 Bovell Talk | Contrib. 17:30, October 22, 2012 (UTC)
Agreed. Also not working in my Firefox on Oasis theme. Signbot.gif0166.png 14:04, November 10, 2012 (UTC)
And if it means anything, it looks fine in preview, but the actual page just has these links to the black-on-white simple articles similar to what N7 experienced. Semtex HUD icon MW2 Bovell Talk | Contrib. 20:31, October 23, 2012 (UTC)
I think something on your end is buggered. If I click a tab it just extends the page with no issue. And my page looks like this: hay0u.png 11:30, October 22, 2012 (UTC)
Hm, ok my pc is derping then. Iw5 cardicon soapN7 TC 11:35, October 22, 2012 (UTC)
It does look like your image on WikiaMobile however, but Monobook for me looks like the image I gave. 11:53, October 22, 2012 (UTC)
Still, you willingly use Monobook and recognise that it's not the officially supported skin on Wikia. While we shouldn't not support Monobook, in the grand scheme of things it's literally only about <0.5% of people who use that skin and we can't always make changes around such a small group of people. Smuff[citation provided] 06:45, October 24, 2012 (UTC)
I agree, we get millions of viewers and I only know of about 10 people who use monobook. Iw5 cardicon soapN7 TC 10:30, October 24, 2012 (UTC)

Yes. - Looks pretty damn good. On mobile layout it's just links to separate pages, which aren't even formatted because of the "action=render", hence my previous pessimism. But on PC I must say it looks very neat and could be very handy too. --MLGisNot4Me talk 11:22, October 22, 2012 (UTC)

Support - I feel like it's better the way it is, but I like the idea and it could just make the pages neater. kk (per all) --Personal AndImBatman Sig imageBats a.k.a Rarity Filly  13:28, October 22, 2012 (UTC)

Support I love this idea, but I also agree with N7's idea, we should make this fast. KUDLq.png 16:10, October 22, 2012 (UTC)

Comment - So everyone knows, these tabs are basically just copied straight off the section they have on the page, so it's not too much hassle, but so a user can edit a tab on the pages they'll use you need to add the following to the top:

<div align="right">{{Edit|{{PAGENAME}}|Text=Edit this tab}}</div>

Pictogram voting question Question — For the naming should we just add "/acronym" for the sandboxes? Ex: "M4A1/CoD 4"? 10:15, October 24, 2012 (UTC)
I'd rather full names. --MLGisNot4Me talk 10:25, October 24, 2012 (UTC)

Was just checking, it'll make making the sandboxes take a bit longer is all. 11:25, October 24, 2012 (UTC)
We should do shorter names for the sandboxes, makes them easier to do. Iw5 cardicon soapN7 TC 16:33, October 24, 2012 (UTC)

Pictogram voting support Support — Looks great, my only problem is that the tab section may become rather big itself with pages like the M1911 where the weapon in question appears in every game. Smuff[citation provided] 17:16, October 24, 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, imo it doesn't look too great on the M1911 page. Iw5 cardicon soapN7 TC 17:56, October 24, 2012 (UTC)

Support - I really like this idea, but only as long as the tabs are very eye-catching (which they are in Sam's sandbox). Joe Copp 00:46, October 26, 2012 (UTC)

Support - It looks nice and much cleaner and organized. But as stated if a gun such as a "STG-44, or M1911...etc" is involved in many more games the tabs can appear to still be a nuisance. I do however support the idea in general. 132527029757.gifArgorrath おしゃべり%E7%95%B0%E8%AD%B0%E3%81%82%E3%82%8A.jpg14:16, October 26, 2012 (UTC)

Support - I agree with Argorrath, although the problem I believe has been solved by N7. Magma-Man 15:24, October 26, 2012 (UTC)

It seems like we have sufficient support to pass this proposal, but I'd like to be sure we have a good sized team of editors to go around and place this new system into articles when the forum is closed. If we don't do it immediately, it will end up taking a long time and articles will be inconsistent with eachother. Joe Copp 01:21, October 29, 2012 (UTC)

Those would be the {{T}} templates. If I had them on normally it automatically adds a category, something that shouldn't be on sandbox pages. 18:19, October 29, 2012 (UTC)

Currently Oppose - Nice idea, but it's not fully optimized and being broken. Signbot.gif0166.png 16:12, October 29, 2012 (UTC)

Support - As a member of a wiki that makes use of tabs, I wholly agree with this. I believe a wiki such as this one would completely benefit from such a system. It organizes information very well, it is easy to use and access, it is overall aesthetically pleasing and it looks professional. The Wikia Contributor T | C | E | Q 01:09, October 30, 2012 (UTC)

Neutral - While the game tabs look pretty darn good in oasis, it doesn't look that good (or work) that well in monobook. Also, with an article that has like 9 sections like the M1911, those tabs doesn't look well to uhhh me. OpalNyx SigNyx Sig talk 04:43, November 1, 2012 (UTC)

Comment - For some reason I can't even view the Tab on my PC properly. (Using Firefox, Javascript is on) If I take away the action=render however, it works. So it seems to not only be a problem on Mobile Devices.LoL4Ever (talk) 20:11, November 7, 2012 (UTC)

new ideaEdit

Instead of using the tab system which uses "action=render" it may be possible to jury rig N7's choice template to allow for pages to be divided that way. It also saves on multiple sandbox pages. 12:04, November 19, 2012 (UTC)
