Forums: Index War Room Adding in weapon manufacturers (not real life info)
Forum logo
Hi, I think we should operate with weapons the same way we operate with characters: If we know the full name of a weapon, we should change the name of the article to match it. Take the FAL for example. In Black Ops it clearly says "FN FAL" with FN being the manufacturer. There are other examples on guns where it says the maunfacturer on the actual gun. What do you guys think? Is this violating the Real life policy? A Lonely Nomad 18:57, October 14, 2010 (UTC)
We always use the weapon's name in-game. The FAL article's Black Ops section should highlight that it is called "FN FAL". -Personal StB sig StB Flag 18:59, October 14, 2010 (UTC)
This seems like a roundabout way of adding RL info to a page. Also, we don't know if "FN FAL" is the in-game full name for it; for all we know, it could be ADKSJLDKJASFKLJ FN FAL. Darkman 4 19:20, October 14, 2010 (UTC)

So... we basically make the name of it longer? I don't get it, is what you're saying that we should rename the Intervention page to "M200 Chaytac Intervention Sniper Rifle" because it's mentioned in one tiny clip in the game? How is that beneficial again? Smuff [The cake is a lie.] 20:01, October 14, 2010 (UTC)

The same way having Reznovs first name is - because he is called Victor, we gave to call the page name Victor Reznov. It doesnt have to be super-beneficial, its just the way things are meant to run. A Lonely Nomad 20:09, October 14, 2010 (UTC)

But, as I said, we don't know what the full name of the gun is in the game universe. You're jumping to conclusions by saying things like "well FN FAL is its full name!" and shows you're getting RL mixed up with the in-game universe. Darkman 4 20:13, October 14, 2010 (UTC)

From what I've seen yet, Treyarch tries as much as legally possible to use complete weapon names in Black Ops, but can't with several. Ofcourse, that doesn't mean we should try to outdo them; that would be confusing, silly, against protocol, etc. GothicEmperor 20:32, October 14, 2010 (UTC)

Disagree. Changing the names of pages can make them hard to find for some users, even with redirects. The policy remains that we name the weapon's page according to what it's called in-game. Personal Joe Copp sig 10:30, October 15, 2010 (UTC)
