Forums: Index War Room Allowing admins to give out minor user rights
Forum logo
At present the only user that can give out any user right (barring Chat Mod) are the B'crats. For this reason I'd like to propose that our admins can be given the right to give out some 'minor' user rights, mainly being Custodian, Blog Patrol and Rollback (and plausably Bot for when users are making multiple edits). This is so Admins have the ability to close requests for these rights instead of having to pass it on to B'crats. 19:08, November 8, 2012 (UTC)

Agreed. YELLOWLUCARIO TALK  19:09, November 8, 2012 (UTC)

Yeah this sounds good. However I'd like blog patrol to be given out by bureaucrats only since that contains the ability to delete discussion pages (blog comments), it's a bit less maintenance than something like custodian is. I'd be fine with it even if admins could give out blog patrol though.  FANMADE_Animated_Derpy_Hooves_desktop_ponies_sprite.gif Sig1.png Sig2.png  19:33, November 8, 2012 (UTC)

Comment/Support - I'd support Custodian and Rollback being able to be given out by admins, as they are fairly minor maintenance related rights. I'd like to see Blog Patrol kept restricted to Bureaucrats. It's a group that actually has a limit, is much smaller, and much less commonly accepts applications. Blog Patrol is also a much more, for lack of a better word, powerful right. Bot rights i'm a little iffy on, simply because they also are rarely given out, though it would be convenient if an admin could just give it to someone who needed it. I'm iffy on bot myself as well. I just threw it in there to see what people thought. I can also understand where people are coming from with Blog Patrol, but we need to remember Custodians also have deletion powers as well. 21:43, November 8, 2012 (UTC)

Support- Good ideas, but I don't think things like BP should be given from admins, and kept to the B-Crats though, following Damac's ideas. The bot idea is scratchy but could be usefull if admins gain it. All in all, I give support on this but more restricted on BP rights. 132527029757.gifArgorrath おしゃべり%E7%95%B0%E8%AD%B0%E3%81%82%E3%82%8A.jpg01:25, November 9, 2012 (UTC)

Weak Support — I am fine with Sysops being able to give out custodian and rollback, provided they may not remove them. I'd be fine with allowing sysops to bot themselves only, but not other user accounts. The handling of blogpatrol rights should be kept to Bureaucrats. -- sactage (talk) 15:49, November 9, 2012 (UTC)

This I like. --MLGisNot4Me talk 15:50, November 9, 2012 (UTC)
I agree with Sactage, admins shouldn't be able to remove the rights.  FANMADE_Animated_Derpy_Hooves_desktop_ponies_sprite.gif Sig1.png Sig2.png  19:51, November 9, 2012 (UTC)

Comment - In an effort of being able to send this off early-ish I'm putting forward what appears to be the consensus: Custodian - Support (add only), Rollback - Support (add only), Blog Patrol - Oppose and Bot- Support only self. I'm happy to send these off if it is correct. 12:51, November 10, 2012 (UTC)
One thing: shouldn't sysops be able to remove Bot from themselves? --MLGisNot4Me talk 12:55, November 10, 2012 (UTC)
Yes, that's why I didn't add the "(Add only)" part. 13:39, November 10, 2012 (UTC)
Ah, okay. --MLGisNot4Me talk 14:29, November 10, 2012 (UTC)

Support - because I get more rights lol. But seriously, the Rollback process should become more steamlined as a result. Not so sure if we need the Custodian rights as well since there isn't as much demand, but it doesn't hurt. Smuff[citation provided] 13:41, November 11, 2012 (UTC)

Support/Comment - Admins may know some users better than the crats do. Also, what is with all these big damn signaturs? MetlTalk 18:28, November 11, 2012 (UTC)

Strong oppose - Undermines what a b'crat is there for. --KλT 18:58, November 12, 2012 (UTC)

For a little clarification, might I ask how? MetlTalk 00:18, November 13, 2012 (UTC)
Might I remind that sysops wouldn't still be able to remove rights nor give sysop/bureaucrat. --MLGisNot4Me talk 05:51, November 14, 2012 (UTC)
To be fair, if the b'crats feel that admins can handle the rights then one can assume they don't feel undermined. Besides, there are custodian rights from May that still haven't been responded to. 03:33, November 16, 2012 (UTC)
It undermines what a b'crat is supposed to be there for - To hand out user rights. That's the whole point of the rights. By giving administrators pretty much half of a b'crats job undermines what a b'crat is there for. I don't think admins need nor require any more rights then we already have. I'd only support giving out bot rights to ourselves. nothing more. vm7BQ.png00:48, November 19, 2012 (UTC)

Uncertain - Isn't this what we have bureaucrats for in the first place? Joe Copp 02:01, November 19, 2012 (UTC)

Note — I withdraw my suggestion about custodian. I'll be fine with sysops giving out rollback only. -- sactage (talk) 14:44, November 20, 2012 (UTC)

Agree - It sounds like it would make our lives easier. Novafan365, master of scrap (talk) 00:21, November 22, 2012 (UTC)

Oppose- Only supporting giving bot to ourselves. PierogiTalk 03:09, November 30, 2012 (UTC)

Oppose- Per Cpl.Bohater.Personal WHISKEY35 signature 17:26, December 16, 2012 (UTC)

Support bot - I changed my mind; I only support sysops being able to give bot flags to oneself and removing it. --MLGisNot4Me talk 14:12, December 18, 2012 (UTC)

Support bots only - Bcrats are created for a reason. Signbot.gif0166.png 10:20, December 19, 2012 (UTC)

Closed - The consensus here is for admins to be able to bot/unbot themselves.  FANMADE_Animated_Derpy_Hooves_desktop_ponies_sprite.gif Sig1.png Sig2.png  15:09, December 19, 2012 (UTC)
