I've been using the website for my Spanish class recently, and I think it may have some potential for use as a medium of discussion, similar to IRC for CoDferences.

Voicethread is essentially a free service that allows anybody that makes an account (it's free) to start a "thread," where they can leave a text/video/audio message for others to see. Afterwards, anyone else with an account can leave a separate message on that thread at any time subsequent. There are multiple slides for each thread, allowing one image per slide; this could be useful for providing image backup for an argument.

I feel as if this medium could be useful for us on the wiki when discussing things like we would in the War Room, as users would be able to say what they're thinking rather than having to fumble around with the right words to type it out. There's always the option to simply type it, however.

There could be some potential downsides, but I haven't fully explored the website yet. Take a look at it and tell me what you think of its potential applications. Shotrocket6 02:09, January 3, 2012 (UTC)

So it's essentially either text message, voicemails, and other stuff on the web? Sounds good to me. Does it have Skype-like calling as well? Cuz that would be really nice. Happy Lyra Lyra(SPNKR)& Bon Bon forever <3Surprised Lyra 02:14, January 3, 2012 (UTC)

It's not a live thing. You drop your message and then wait for others to view it. Shotrocket6 02:20, January 3, 2012 (UTC)

What if you don't have the ablitiy to use the voice feature? Conqueror of all Zombies 02:50, January 3, 2012 (UTC)

You can write a text response instead. Shotrocket6 03:07, January 3, 2012 (UTC)
Ah. Ok. Conqueror of all Zombies 03:08, January 3, 2012 (UTC)

I'm fine with the current Codference setup.vm7BQ.png'

I like the idea and it sounds cool, but as KATANAGOD pointed out, I'm fine with the current way we do Codferences. KUDLq.png 12:21, January 3, 2012 (UTC)

Note that I didn't say this idea was to replace CoDferences, but to act alongside it. In fact, I only wanted input for a potential use from this forum. Shotrocket6 20:50, January 4, 2012 (UTC)
I think it has potential. The main downfall of CoDferences is that if you missed it, then you had to read the huge mess of logs and it sucked. With this, you can easily view the whole chain of thought, and can contribute at any time, so it's a lot harder to actually miss one of these. The entire point of CoDferences is live discussion. For discussion at a leisurely pace, there is no reason to not use the War Room. Semtex HUD icon MW2 Bovell Talk | Contrib. 22:46, January 11, 2012 (UTC)

What of the other advantages? Users that are not particularly good at putting their thoughts into text would have an easier time presenting good ideas. Shotrocket6 22:52, January 11, 2012 (UTC)
There is nothing stopping you from adding infographics to a War Room topic. I don't see the need to use an external site when the same business can be accomplished here. Semtex HUD icon MW2 Bovell Talk | Contrib. 01:12, January 12, 2012 (UTC)
Not many infographics allow voice archiving, however. Shotrocket6 01:17, January 12, 2012 (UTC)

I went ahead and created an example of what the voicethread would be like. Check it out. Shotrocket6 21:24, January 4, 2012 (UTC)

Hmm, it's not bad. We could try it...  FANMADE_Animated_Derpy_Hooves_desktop_ponies_sprite.gif Sig1.png Sig2.png  00:42, January 6, 2012 (UTC)

We can hear each other's sexy voices I replied to it and it's very nice. I don't like that we have to make fake names and stuff though. Are there any privacy options Shot? Happy Lyra Lyra(SPNKR)& Bon Bon forever <3Surprised Lyra 01:29, January 6, 2012 (UTC)
I know that you can make multiple personalities for your account. You should do some exploring around the site and its options. Shotrocket6 10:06, January 6, 2012 (UTC)

I can't register at all for some reason. DarkMetroid567 16:32, January 7, 2012 (UTC)

Sorry, but I don't see the point of adding this. The Wikia Contributor T | C | E | Q 01:42, January 10, 2012 (UTC)

Per Contributor, its a cool idea, but Codferences work fine the way they are now. KUDLq.png 12:23, January 10, 2012 (UTC)

It's supposed to complement CoDferences, not replace them; just a reminder. The main drawback of CoDferences is that all of us have to be there at once; with this, it's not necessary to all attend simultaneously; it could work essentially like a forum with voice as well as text. Happy Lyra Lyra(SPNKR)& Bon Bon forever <3Surprised Lyra 02:10, January 11, 2012 (UTC)
To be honest, voice-mails are less efficient, as people may not understand each others' accents and people might mumble, not have a mic, stutter, or have any other for of interruption. The Wikia Contributor T | C | E | Q 04:16, January 11, 2012 (UTC)
That is why there is the option to leave a text response as well. Shotrocket6 10:07, January 11, 2012 (UTC)
Isn't that what forums and talk pages are for? The Wikia Contributor T | C | E | Q 03:06, January 12, 2012 (UTC)
^That. Conqueror of all Zombies 04:22, January 12, 2012 (UTC)
Yes. The voice option was the main selling point in the first place. As you can see, since the application can be embedded, we could simply place it on a forum (at the bottom, perhaps?) and leave discussion to the rest of the page as well. Shotrocket6 10:46, January 12, 2012 (UTC)

The website doesn't always work for me. It freezes my computer some of the time, and it's really slow when it works. While I haven't tried it receintly, that's what happened last time I got on it. Conqueror of all Zombies 04:22, January 12, 2012 (UTC)

Have you tried using the embedded application? Shotrocket6 10:46, January 12, 2012 (UTC)
I'll try that next time. Conqueror of all Zombies 01:41, January 13, 2012 (UTC)
