I plan on purchasing an elgato which records in 720p and up to 1080p and I can capture pictures of each camo on the remington and then trans them to upload to the wiki. But with microtransactions I don't really want to spend £20 on camos I'm not gonna use. {{Signatures/DBD Abyss}}22:54, April 18, 2014 (UTC)

Forums: Index War Room Ghosts Weapon images
Forum logo

It has been over three months since Ghosts released, and I can't help but notice how empty the weapon camouflage and attachment pages are at the current moment. Almost all of the galleries up to MW3 are complete, and even the Black Ops II pages have a decent amount of quality images. The Ghosts galleries however, are almost all empty or only have a few poor quality pre-release images. I fear that if these images aren't done soon enough, they will become overshadowed by the next COD release and be forgotten about. As a solution to fill these pages, I am providing two possible suggestions.

Suggestion 1: Allow lower quality (Youtube images without watermarks, low quality capture card) images to be placed in galleries as placeholders until better images are provided in the future. This would make it that users visiting the pages at least see images, even if they aren't of the best quality, of what they visited the page for.

Suggestion 2: Start up a Ghosts image project. Currently, the only way to get quality screenshots from the game is either from a high-end capture card or a PC version of the game. Since most users don't have these though, it would be up to either the PC users only or possibly have these users dump images where other users can add transparency and add the images when they are finished.

Personally, I think either of these suggestions would overall benefit the wiki as a whole. With the first suggestion, the galleries could be finished much faster, but would require more work in the long run (if it ever happens). If we were to do something similar to the second suggestion, I would be able to help with editing the images, as I did most of the camos on the B23R on a decent image quality and they turned out decent. All I ask for now is some input on how either of these plans would or wouldn't work. http://i.imgur.com/4XBy83R.pngAntiScootaTwotalk  18:58, February 20, 2014 (UTC)

Discussion

As far as I know, the only users with Ghosts for PC is myself and MLG. Now I personally have some issues with Ghosts, some linked with the game itself, another more due to myself. Linked with the game, Hardcore mode no longer fully removes the HUD, meaning you can't get a clean shot anymore. Another issue, is I don't have the DLC, since the MP bores me anyway, I don't fancy paying £40 for the images. On a more personal note, I can get quite busy. And right now I commonly have a guest round, and we share the PC. Also, the act of trans'ing the images can take 5-10 mins per image, meaning a lot of time can go into doing the work, and I have a habit of putting it off. It would greatly help if more people had Ghosts for PC, and perhaps a project would help more people trying to upload images.

It's not necessarily required that you upload the image already trans'd - they can be uploaded with a background and then trans'd by you or someone else at a later date. Of course it's up to you, but if getting the images themselves on the wiki matters more to you than making them trans first, then you can skip the transing.  FANMADE_Animated_Derpy_Hooves_desktop_ponies_sprite.gif Sig1.png Sig2.png  05:28, February 21, 2014 (UTC)
Even taking out the time to trans, there's a somewhat long set up time. At least custom games still have the advantage of not having to unlock the weapons. But as you can only have 5 classes, that's only 5/10 images per batch. Which is another time constraint that tends to put me off. 08:36, February 21, 2014 (UTC)

As Sam said, the issue is that not many people here have Ghosts for PC. A project to get images for it would be a good idea - maybe it'd get some images even if they're of lesser quality to start off with.  FANMADE_Animated_Derpy_Hooves_desktop_ponies_sprite.gif Sig1.png Sig2.png  05:28, February 21, 2014 (UTC)

I've recently found out that Ghosts is actually on a 505 off sale (Must of not met its sales target, since Acti never do a sale this early). So more people might be able to grab it.

I think a new image project could work out well, as they have in the past, but we'd need to decide whether we want to allow low quality images to stay in articles as placeholders, just so there's something there, to be replaced later; or to wait for high quality transparencies. In my opinion we should be supplying articles with at least one or two images if they need them, regardless of the quality, so that readers have something to view. In a lot of cases the quality doesn't matter so much for readers. Joe Copp 16:23, February 25, 2014 (UTC)

As long as the low quality versions are the bare minimum (since we had a forum about it a while back), and uploaded in.png they should be fine. There's nothing directly wrong with .jpg, but it's more of a hassle to replace since you need to delete the old version instead of a simple new version upload. 16:53, February 25, 2014 (UTC)
I'll agree, but I don't think that's something we should enforce too hard. If we're to go through all the effort of warning people about .jpgs and going through that whole process, when in reality it barely makes a difference for an article that has no pictures anyway, well it just seems like more effort than it's worth. Joe Copp 17:01, February 25, 2014 (UTC)
We don't need to warn people about .jpgs. That's just a preference. 17:03, February 25, 2014 (UTC)

So if we're going to do a new project, what would the specific goals be? How about something like

  1. Every Ghosts weapon page should have at least 2 hi-def images
  2. At least one of those images should be trans'd

Clear and defined, so we know when it's over

Maybe Verantha can help with the images; she has been recently uploading quality weapon models. Some weapons in Call of Duty: Ghosts really need third-person models images, such as the handheld Minigun, the MAAWS and the Venom-X. BO2 could also benefit from images for the Manual Crossbow and the handheld Minigun (both 1980's version), as well as the Valkyrie Launcher and the difference of grenades models between the 1980's and 2025 versions (and improving those for the Titus-6 and Storm PSR). There's also the Starstreak in MW3. --Ultimate94ninja (talk) 10:09, March 9, 2014 (UTC)

Potentially moving forward with this

This fourm has been open for nearly a month, and so far no progress has been made on the attachment/camouflage images that I noted in the original description. Would it be possible to start a vote soon between either allowing lower quality images as filler, actually assemble a team to get higher quality screenshots that won't have to be replaced, both, or neither of the proposed solutions? http://i.imgur.com/4XBy83R.pngAntiScootaTwotalk  22:22, March 17, 2014 (UTC)

Well, if it helps anything, you can ask me to do images since I'm capable of that, other than filling attachment and/or camouflage pages because they take time (especially if you have to get them in public matches, which is why I got VAC banned from MW2) more than anything, and it's boring to trans essentially the same picture ten times in a row. I'm too lazed to do scouting, so asking will probably get better results. -- laagone (talk)  07:23, March 18, 2014 (UTC)

Not sure about camo, but in private matches all the attachments are available in Ghosts in Private Match. Only issue is HUD elements. 21:14, March 18, 2014 (UTC)
Last time I checked all the camos are available except for the DLC ones if you don't have them. This also includes the clan wars camos. http://i.imgur.com/4XBy83R.pngAntiScootaTwotalk  20:34, March 20, 2014 (UTC)
Well on PC, it's only MLG and I that are in the CDWC, so I doubt we're getting those camos. And while I shelled out for the Season Pass for the sake of Extinction, I'd rather not start getting micro-transactions. 03:31, March 21, 2014 (UTC)
And I'm not getting any DLC either because I don't want to pay for something I'm really not gonna enjoy, the base game was enough for that. -- laagone (talk)  21:51, March 21, 2014 (UTC)
