Earlier me and Damac posted a giveaway of BO3 beta codes on Twitter ( and we got to talking about how we could do a larger scale giveaway. Maybe on the wiki and twitter because it's great for views, publicity and followers.

Damacs suggestion was maybe a digital copy of COD:AW, I had the idea that we could get multiple wiki members to donate money, however little or much they want. That way we don't have to have one use fork out 40 quid because we can instead get 20 users to fork out £2.50 or something.

Idk just an idea for now, any suggestions and thoughts etc leave it below. N7 [T|C] 21:44, April 28, 2015 (UTC)

I'd honestly think that this wouldn't really work. How is the giveaway going to be fair? How are we going todo it? What about the non PC players? Twig (Talk) wNJ2zkL.png 21:48, April 28, 2015 (UTC)

Our beta giveaway is done by RTs, the people who retweet are put into a generator and picked at random. We could do the same for other twitter giveaways. As for the PC thing, you can easily get digital codes for games on XB1 and PS4. N7 [T|C] 22:09, April 28, 2015 (UTC)
I was more thinking of the lines of the whole "[...] larger scale giveaway. Maybe on the wiki" part. How would we make the giveaway fair here? Twig (Talk) wNJ2zkL.png 22:20, April 28, 2015 (UTC)
Pretty easy, just do a generic question in a blog like "What is your favourite CoD character?" and then grab usernames from the replies and put them into a generator. I don't think the problem here is how to do the giveaway but how to get the actual thing to giveaway. N7 [T|C] 08:08, April 29, 2015 (UTC)

If we're giving away a game, why not wait until BO3 gets released and do a giveaway then? Conqueror of all Zombies (talk) 23:35, April 28, 2015 (UTC)

Because that's November which is bloody ages away. Why not do something now to gain popularity etc before the release of BO3? Many people are saying the Wiki is dying (which might be a bit over the top) so a bit more attention/popularity can't be a bad thing. N7 [T|C] 08:08, April 29, 2015 (UTC)
It may be a while away, but it might attract more people. Since I already own AW on PC, so I don't really want to get it on any other system. But if the incentive was a game I don't own yet, then I'd certainly try and enter it. 14:52, April 29, 2015 (UTC)
November may be ages away, but I'm pretty sure most everyone who wants AW already has it by this point. And why do a giveaway a game when the next one is coming up quickly? We always get more traffic when a new game releases, so why not do a giveaway when we're at out peak popularity? Conqueror of all Zombies (talk) 16:11, April 29, 2015 (UTC)
What's to say we can't do a giveaway now and then one again in November. Damac had the idea that we could maybe giveaway AW dlc instead too. N7 [T|C] 09:36, April 30, 2015 (UTC)
I get the sensation that if anyone wanted AW, they also got the Season Pass. So maybe a micro-DLC bundle would would work. 14:01, April 30, 2015 (UTC)
Thats probably not even remotely true. KUDLq.png 16:25, April 30, 2015 (UTC)
THen offer a choice. Either a main DLC, or a collection of micro-DLCs of equivelent value. But I know I got the Season Pass more or less the same day I got AW. So'm fairly certain anyone else that wanted to have the CoD experiance would have gotten it around the same time as well. OR perhaps we should run a poll to see what people already have to see what we should bother getting. 16:41, April 30, 2015 (UTC)
I honestly think a AW DLC giveaway would go down really well, you underestimate the power of free stuff. Our BO3 beta giveaway has 315~ RTs and its something people can easily pick up. N7 [T|C] 17:49, April 30, 2015 (UTC)
I'm not saying it won't do well. I'm just saying that I believe since AW is 6 months in, anyone still playing it likely has the Season Pass. Which is why I suggested a Micro-DLC bundle of similar value. 09:08, May 1, 2015 (UTC)

How about we do a giveaway similar to this? Capt. MillerTalk 08:12, April 29, 2015 (UTC)

Could do that yeah, I'll have to ask kat what he did with google docs to make it. N7 [T|C] 09:38, April 29, 2015 (UTC)
You don't have to do anything with Google Docs specifically, just go to Google Forms, sign in and create one. - RooTm3q.png Soap Shadow · Talk  17:29, April 29, 2015 (UTC)
I can arrange that again. Maybe I'll ask wikia if they can arrange something with a copy of BO3. KλT 18:57, April 29, 2015 (UTC)
Shoot me an email! (, we can definitely help you all out for things like this. Jorge @fandom(profile)•(talk) 21:17, April 29, 2015 (UTC)
Awesome, I will be in touch soon cheers. N7 [T|C] 09:36, April 30, 2015 (UTC)
I just wanted to check, did we ever get anything to give away? Because this forum has more or less died. If we don't have anything I'll just close it up. 16:49, June 27, 2015 (UTC)
Closed - As I received no reply, I'm assuming that this will not be going forward. Should something actually arise, then this can be re-opened to plan how to use said item. However until then, this matter is closed and assumed to be not happening. 18:21, June 29, 2015 (UTC)
Re-opened - After talking to JAlbor, we do have some BO3 games to giveaway, however we're still talking about how many we can actually get to give away. 18:22, July 1, 2015 (UTC)

Giveaway organisationEdit

OK, now we've got a go-ahead from JAlbor, I wanted to get aconsensus on how to run this giveaway. We can either do a simple "Leave your name and enter" thing, or possibly run a quiz. Leave your ideas so we can come up with something. Once we're ready, I'll email JAlbor so he can work on getting the copies and start advertising the giveaway. 18:31, July 1, 2015 (UTC)
I'll use google docs to throw it together, as i did with our previous giveaway. KλT 18:34, July 1, 2015 (UTC)
I was thinking we do a survey like GameStop/Target/etc. does -- ie, something like "Tell us what you think of the Wiki/How we could improve it and you'll be entered to win a copy of BO3 on your choice platform". This way there's a little more wiki based involvement and we can get useful feedback. And I assume that's easy to do with google docs so... Personally, I think since this is a new game we're giving away, we should make it somewhat of a challenge and do a mid-difficulty quiz. I say mid-difficulty as making it too easy with obvious answers will just be the same as a general sign up give-away. And we don't want one that's too difficult as it may just alienate some users that don't play CoD much. 09:23, July 4, 2015 (UTC)
Aren't all the answers to the quiz on the wiki though? (Unless that's the point!) Smuff[citation provided] 23:21, July 5, 2015 (UTC)
Wouldn't most of the users who follow us on Twitter be frequent CoD players though? Conqueror of all Zombies (talk) 23:39, July 5, 2015 (UTC)
Frequenet doesn't necsarilly mean they'll know a whole lot about CoD. They might just be able to play it a few hours a day. Also, we could word the questions so some of the answers aren't directly on the wiki. 04:22, July 6, 2015 (UTC)
How many questions are we talking for this quiz? TLfINDf.gif This username better work TLfINDf.gif 18:31, July 8, 2015 (UTC)
5-10 maybe. Needn't be anything overly complex. 16:58, July 10, 2015 (UTC)
I think 10 would be the ideal number. Conqueror of all Zombies (talk) 19:00, July 15, 2015 (UTC)

i think we shouldnt do questions because everyone could easily find a way to find out the answers. plus, were an encyclopedia site; any info that isnt already on here should be put on here. At least that means it would get some people using the Wiki. It's a bit more interactive than just getting people to sign up their name. 15:33, July 11, 2015 (UTC)
Another question; would simply completing the quiz count as a sign-up or will we only be taking people who get, say, 7+/10 questions right? And another -- that I think I know the answer to -- are questions choice or free answer? (I assume choice since it's easier to grade). TLfINDf.gif This username better work TLfINDf.gif 00:41, July 14, 2015 (UTC)
Since it's a quiz, it would need people to get it right. Mainly because if we weren't checkign the answers, then there would be no point to a quiz. 15:58, July 15, 2015 (UTC)
This is spot on. After a while, everyone will be getting 10/10. I was thinking, if you want people to edit the wiki, maybe they culd have to do a certain number of edits within a certain time (edit boosting won't count ofc) then you get entered in the draw. This boost activity on the wiki and gives everyone a fair chance, plus it cleans up the place! We're a wiki, may as well do something wiki-related that keeps everyone equal. YELLOWLUCARIO TALK  22:07, July 18, 2015 (UTC)
Forced edits are likely to be poor edits. 08:28, July 20, 2015 (UTC)
I don't see how forcing anons who don't want to edit the site would be beneficial, or how we'd be able to keep very good track of that anyway. Conqueror of all Zombies (talk) 16:12, July 23, 2015 (UTC)

Best to get this moved along.

  1. Simple sign up
  2. Quiz
In hindsight I've realised the latter needs us checking all the entries. So I'm supporting both. 08:34, July 23, 2015 (UTC)

Option 1Edit

Pictogram voting support Support — I think we should do this. It needs to be within reason though, as I can see some guy who's made 5 awful edits that have all been undone and has just come back from a 3 day chat ban winning it, which would be a sickener. Also, somewhat relevant - YELLOWLUCARIO TALK  19:58, July 24, 2015 (UTC)

Pictogram voting support Support — i still think itd be pretty pointless to have a quiz. War flag of the Imperial Japanese Army RisingSun2020 Personal RisingSun2013 2000px-Flag of JSDF.svg (RisingSun's Talk Page Blog Posts Contributions) 20:24, July 24, 2015 (UTC)

Pictogram voting support Support — I guess just a sign-up is more accessible and more likely to draw more people. TLfINDf.gif This username better work TLfINDf.gif 00:06, July 27, 2015 (UTC)

Pictogram voting support Support — Like TUBW said, i think a sign up would be much more enticing. Higaboi21talkKI7e8hQ.png 02:03, July 28, 2015 (UTC)

Pictogram voting support Support — While I like quizzes, a simple signup would be better, per TUBW. -- laagone (talk)  14:14, July 29, 2015 (UTC)

Pictogram voting support Support — This seems the easiest, and the quiz honestly sounds kinda pointless and may discourage some users. 4XBy83R.pngAntiScootaTwotalk  14:27, July 29, 2015 (UTC)

Option 2Edit

  1. I'd rather see people do the quiz, honestly. I'm fine with option 1 however. bionicle__unity_duty_destiny_by_cyberpictures-d6p3li2.pngLegos-Rule-15 Talk 17:43, July 23, 2015 (UTC)
