I think, everybody noticed that quality of images on wiki is very, VERY low. And, these images are used on user pages and talk pages, so, it's difficult to fix all of them. I made a list of actions that will make wiki better, and they MUST be done:

  • Making screenshots with better resolution.
  • Making screenshots without HUD and crosshair.
  • Uploading transparent images in GIF or PNG format (ALL emblems and callsigns on wiki are in JPG; JPG is low-quality opaque format).
  • Extracting icons from IWD files instead of making screenshots of them.
  • Uploading SVG images instead of their PNG versions (all flags and other simple images on wiki are in PNG, and it is very bad that most users save SVG files in PNG or even THUMBNAILS of SVG files. For noobs - to download svg FILE use "Save as..." on FULL OPENED SVG file instead of "Save image as..." on thumbnail. SVG is scalable vector format, so, images will display same way when used in any size - but it JPG/GIF/PNG images are enlarged they will be blurred or pixelated).
  • Making standard galleries. Best max size of images in gallery is 140x140. And, in some articles "fake" galleries (just simple image thumbs) are used instead of <gallery> tag.
  • Fixing articles with thumbnails of thumbnails (they should be replaced with thumbnails of large images, example - here (I fixed it).
  • Using PC to take images instead of Xbox/PS3 or emulators to take NDS/Wii images. PC provides best image quality and allows players to easily extract IWIs from IWDs and converting them to DDS and then to PNG.

If you support me, upload good images as many as you can. SiPlus 14:10, July 2, 2010 (UTC)

Call of Duty WaW high-quality perk images uploaded. SiPlus 15:26, July 2, 2010 (UTC)

That's a good idea you got going here, but the main issue is that this would take a lot of effort and would take up so much time. Honestly, the majority of images we have on articles, which is what really matters, don't have all that bad of quality. I see what you are trying to do, but this is something that we need the whole community for and truthfully, I don't think anyone will really do it. His points are valid nonetheless. These are things we should be aspiring to do. --Scottie theNerd 17:07, July 4, 2010 (UTC)
True, very true. I have the right program for changing simple JPEG images into high quality GIF images. I am willing to help with this project, but I do think we need more than 2 or 3 people in on this. Bullet Case Emblem MW2 SigRod3 17:10, July 4, 2010 (UTC)
But if you convert JPG to GIF quality won't be better, and the file won't be original. Converting IWI to DDS and to GIF (PNG if no animation) is better. SiPlus 18:10, July 4, 2010 (UTC)
I use GIMP 2, you can mess with quality and you can erase the background, leaving just the emblem in a GIF format. Bullet Case Emblem MW2 SigRod3 20:58, July 4, 2010 (UTC)
What system do you use? It's much better to extract IWIs from PC version of MW2 and convert them to DDS and then to PNG. SiPlus 15:17, July 5, 2010 (UTC)
Guys, remember that it is not only the resolution that you need to worry about, it is also the DPI (dots per inch) that matters to. It is kind of like youtube videos, most of them look really quite crappy, (ones uploaded by normal people) especially compared to commercial youtube videos (ones uploaded by Gamespot or IGN). A better bitrate video will look better than a higher res but lower bitrate video. That is the same thing with images. Remember that. Attack Rhino (Talk - Contributions) 02:09, July 7, 2010 (UTC)

SiPlus, we are not the Combine Overwiki; we don't need such restrictions on images. While you may think this is a good idea, this is much different wiki compared to the CO. I mean, come on, do you think most of the people here even know what a SVG is? Be realistic. I'd like to have no crosshairs/huds on images, but you can't do that on things like the console games. I'd agree with you on all these counts if we had an SDK for the CoD games that is simliar to the Source SDK, but we don't, so we'll have to do with things like barely noticable HUDs and the like.

Your suggestions for making the images high quality are already somewhat in our rules; I've deleted what are clearly bad TV images in the past for "poor quality". Darkman 4 02:15, July 7, 2010 (UTC)

Ok, I saw that LQ WaW perk images were deleted. But what stops you at way of converting CoDWaW IWIs to PNGs? You converted CoD4 textures, but why not WaW? SiPlus 12:14, July 8, 2010 (UTC)
