Hello, I have been working on setting up a project involving wiki's working together, and I have been told by Argorrath that I should bring it here to "gets more traction from the other admins".

I feel that wiki's should do more to help each other, but that most wiki's remain closed off unless it involves a sibling wiki. I am hoping to get wiki's better connected and assist one another with content that they have in common. For example, Alien Species wiki has articles related to call of duty, but the community there cant help those articles because none of them understand it. Other wikis like them have plagiarism problems, and want their content to not be copy and paste from another wiki. What I am trying to do is connect the communities so they can better work together.

One community who is ready for a partnership is wikianswers. Wikianswers has these questions relating to call of duty. They have agreed that if a wiki is to come in and help with these questions, that while answering the question, they can leave a relevant link that leads to an article on their wiki. This helps them answer questions, and it helps fans who end up there not only get the answer they need, but leads them here.

This project is small right now, and as of now, only Wikianswers and Alien Species are with the project and have COD content. I am hoping that this wiki becomes a part of this and helps this project grow into something that will greatly help wikis, their editors, and the community's better serve their visitors. I hope to answer any questions you have about this, and that we can work out some way to work together. Thanks you.-Cheatcodechamp (talk) 20:57, July 20, 2015 (UTC)

Can't see this happening in a million years. I got lucky to get one person over to help out on my wiki, and we follow each other on Twitter. That's as far as it's likely to go. YELLOWLUCARIO TALK  21:18, July 20, 2015 (UTC)

I know this kind of project is hard to get started, but there is little harm in trying. Worst case is the project dies, but any good done between start and finish will be worth the time put in trying to get this project to work.-Cheatcodechamp (talk) 23:01, July 20, 2015 (UTC)
There's a huge difference between asking people to help answer question relevant to the wiki they're on and asking people to help with a wiki that's about a game they don't even play. I don't see why this couldn't be at least a partial success. Conqueror of all Zombies (talk) 18:45, July 22, 2015 (UTC)
Something like the questions, I'd help do. But helping develop articles on a different wiki, that's a different story. bionicle__unity_duty_destiny_by_cyberpictures-d6p3li2.pngLegos-Rule-15 Talk 18:59, July 22, 2015 (UTC)
Answers can use all they help they can get, so even if you guys just did that, that would be great. But I have to ask, why is helping build and maintain COD related articles on another wiki a different story? Wikis are about information, and if they have little info, bad/outdated info, or have area's of content that some editor copied and pasted, this wiki would benefit by making sure that the content they specialize in is in good condition.-Cheatcodechamp (talk) 19:56, July 22, 2015 (UTC)
Keep in mind that effective editing on a wiki is essentially a full-time job. A full-time job that is done purely by volunteers. Having to work 2 wikis essentially doubles the workload, and frankly a lot of users don't have the time for that. 20:01, July 22, 2015 (UTC)
Full time job might be stretching it a bit Sam... Conqueror of all Zombies (talk) 20:11, July 22, 2015 (UTC)
Well, for those that can only put a small amount of time in, how are they going to have any hope of maintaining two wikis if they can only manage a small amount of time on one? My main point here is that working multiple wikis takes up a lot of time, and many users will not be able to do it. 20:17, July 22, 2015 (UTC)
Most of us don't have enough time to do everything we want, and I am not saying you need to put in a couple of hours a day into helping. But even five or ten minutes can make a differences at times. A few small edits build up. But if people can't help they have no obligation. But if people put a small chip into improving another wiki, they know they are getting help, and most are grateful for the assistance.Cheatcodechamp (talk) 01:24, July 23, 2015 (UTC)

I'd be willing to help out in the project. If this happens, might I propose an award for those who help out, much like projects in the past? bionicle__unity_duty_destiny_by_cyberpictures-d6p3li2.pngLegos-Rule-15 Talk 00:34, July 21, 2015 (UTC)

Awards for projects are only for on-wiki projects. We can't really give an award for something you're doing somewhere else. 18:12, July 22, 2015 (UTC)

what exactly would we even do to promote these wikis your talking about? we can put them in "affiliates and friends", but i dont know of any other way to get those wikis promoted. Aside from a community news plug, not much. F&A doesn't really do much. 21:04, July 22, 2015 (UTC)
Most of these wiki's prefer assistance over promotion, and there are others in this project who can help with that. Elder scrolls will promote this wiki and others who join the project (Both in their weekly community update and on their FB) to show that they are committed to helping other wiki's and their communities in whatever way possibles, even if they cant directly get involved.Cheatcodechamp (talk) 01:24, July 23, 2015 (UTC)
promoting them would help them get more assistance. thats probably why the wikis need help, is because they need to be promoted better. Not all wiki's need a simple shout out or to become affiliates. The Heroes wiki (who just joined the project in the past few days) has plenty of editors, but could use partners to make sure the articles are original (non-plagiarized) and neutral. Yes, promotion would work, but simply posting a link is not helping. At times what a wiki needs is a little time and involvement to improve. I am not saying you guys need to pour everything you have into this wiki, but you could do a lot if you just worked on your area. If you went in and went through all Call of duty articles, make some they may not have but need, add a few links that lead here, and leave it at that, everybody still wins.-Cheatcodechamp (talk) 05:19, July 26, 2015 (UTC)
well, ive already started helping more with those questions on wikianswers, but its just i hate to join another community and just do those few edits then go, regarding the other wiki you mentioned. I have no problem doing the questions, so I'll help. Higaboi21talkKI7e8hQ.png 02:13, July 28, 2015 (UTC)
Closed - Nothing left to do now. As this is just a request for help, we cannot vote or gain consensus on this. 15:44, August 3, 2015 (UTC)
