What i don't like is users like [[User:XDEATHMAN4aP90x|XDEATHMAN4aP90x]] (not bashing on you, just as an example) who just [http://callofduty.wikia.com/index.php?title=Special:Log&type=upload&user=XDEATHMAN4aP90x&month=&year= uploads a bunch] of meme pics and other random stuff.. Personal images can be moderated, in fact its not that hard to do. Just limit the number of personal images would be my choice. {{Sig/Drkdragonz66}}21:08, August 24, 2011 (UTC)

Forums: Index War Room Personal images and what to do with them
Forum logo

So, apparently personal images are a hot topic on the wiki, witnessed by two different forums, of which one is currently open. But why? Why would you even consider restricting a certain type of personal images? You might say "they are getting out of hand". Well, that's certainly not relevant to the topic of those forums. It's not the "topic" of the image that is the problem. It's the files that are the problem in the "out of hand" argument. Another argument I see in the "destroy all the ponies" thread is that they are not relevant on the cod wiki. That's true, but are personal images supposed to be relevant? No, because relevant images aren't personal images. ^.^.

Let me quote giggle here. "Support — Personal images like these can easily go somewhere else, which I've stated many, many times. --Azuris(talk) 02:10, August 22, 2011 (UTC)". Well why the heck are we banning pony images then? Babysteps? Nuh-uh. That's not the solution.

I am all for hosting personal images on an external site or on another wikia wiki. This is in fact what would be the best solution IMO. Banning a certain type of images is just not the way to go. Just because you hate MLP doesn't mean you should create a policy to ban all images from there. So what now? Options are, I think:

  1. Let the policy (or the lack thereof) be as is and keep banning certain types of images be. (senseless to me)
  2. Adopt a personal image policy:
    1. Limit amount of personal images to x (I personally think three would be good; maybe five).
      • Edit on 15:37, August 24, 2011 (UTC) . If this is adopted, maybe prefix all personal files with "File:PERSONAL_filename..." or create a template that is placed on each personal image? Discuss.
    2. Ban personal images. That Joey kewlguy created a kewl template, so why not use it and host your personal images on imgur or even another wikia wiki.

Any discussion is welcome. I'll ruin your arguments liek a baws. :3 1358 (Talk) 15:29, August 24, 2011 (UTC)

Option 2 and the other option 2 are my favorites. --Azuris(talk) 15:31, August 24, 2011 (UTC)

Who are you? But anyway I think banning personal images is the way to go, especially now the pro joey made a pro template. Iw5 cardicon soapN7 TC 15:33, August 24, 2011 (UTC)

Option 2.1 or Option 2.2. Banning certain types of images is both unfair and really looks like a dick move. PMGs is one thing - there was big problems with people failing to license them/name them properly. Other personal images do not suffer from the problem, so only banning certain types of personal images isn't fair.  FANMADE_Animated_Derpy_Hooves_desktop_ponies_sprite.gif Sig1.png Sig2.png  15:34, August 24, 2011 (UTC)

My head hurts from all this discussion. Why don't we just ban excessive personal images?File:AdvancedRookieSig2.png 15:39, August 24, 2011 (UTC)

ehm dear mister sir, this forum is for discussing to do that. Joeytje50talk i is gud admin

Because that's not bureaucratic enough. We need an endless string of discussions and red tape before we can do anything. :P Raven's wing Talk15:41, August 24, 2011 (UTC)
But what counts as personal images?File:AdvancedRookieSig2.png 15:42, August 24, 2011 (UTC)
I'd say non-CoD relevant images used for personal purposes (duh) Template:Sig/MLG 15:44, August 24, 2011 (UTC)
So would my screenshots then be exempt for "Personal images"?File:AdvancedRookieSig2.png 15:45, August 24, 2011 (UTC)
Are they used in an article? 1358 (Talk) 15:46, August 24, 2011 (UTC)
No, but they're CoD related.File:AdvancedRookieSig2.png 15:47, August 24, 2011 (UTC)
If they are not used in an article, I don't see how they benefit the wiki in any way. Thus, you count them as personal images. Solved by just uploading them on an external site like imgur. 1358 (Talk) 15:48, August 24, 2011 (UTC)
But they're all licensed and properly named. I'm not really asking the question, I'm just trying to show that they're can be some points in this debate which can be subjective.File:AdvancedRookieSig2.png 15:50, August 24, 2011 (UTC)
You have a good point. I think we need to either a) first decide if we want a policy and then define what a personal image is (probably not a good option), or b) first define what a personal image is and then discuss this. 1358 (Talk) 15:53, August 24, 2011 (UTC)

Doesn't that mean that this disscussion be ended since the idea already came up and was shot down? File:Ireland flag.gifCoaZTalkFile:Ireland flag.gif 17:01, August 24, 2011 (UTC)

"Most people don't know that you can have images from an external website on your userpage. Instead of having to delete a personal image everytime someone uploads one and reminding them that they must put their personal images on an external site, just let them upload them here. It would save the admins a lot of hassle.

As for unlicensed images, get a bot instead of manually going through them. I'm sure there are a few on Wikipedia. Like I said earlier, who cares about clogging up the file list when we have almost-unlimited space on this wiki?" Darkman 4 13:09, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

I'm using Darkman's words here as my argument.File:AdvancedRookieSig2.png 15:58, August 24, 2011 (UTC)

When you get that bot active, I'd be open to discussing this. Else, no. It is taking more time to license all those files than to delete those files and to enforce a policy personal files are not allowed. On the Rswiki there is such policy, and we almost never get personal image uploads. Just put a clear message that personal images are not allowed on MediaWiki:Uploadtext and the amount of personal file uploads will reduce very rapidly. Joeytje50talk i is gud admin

But the question I have is why? Why now? Did the ponies really push it over the edge? I'm just concerned that we're only discussing it because it seems like the next big thing to do to the wiki.File:AdvancedRookieSig2.png 16:04, August 24, 2011 (UTC)
I was just saying that those arguments are quite invalid. It is not more work deleting all the files, it is way too hard getting a bot here. And clogging up the file list does make the filelist very chaotic, and impossible to use well. Also, to answer your question: we are discussing doing this now because it was brought up, not because of MLP images. Yes, MLP images were the reason it was brought up, but they were not the reason why people think this way. And yes indeed, maybe it is good to make it the next big change to this wiki. Why does the wiki need a big change anyway?File:AdvancedRookieSig2.png 16:13, August 24, 2011 (UTC)
I'm not saying it needs a big change. I'm just saying it might be good to let it have a big change. And how come you can't reply to my other arguments? Joeytje50talk i is gud admin

Well fine. Take all the images off and then everything will be perfect. I'm not an expert on bots so I obviously wouldn't know how long something takes. I'm not in the way of big changes. I'm against changing for the sake of changing.File:AdvancedRookieSig2.png 16:19, August 24, 2011 (UTC)

I agree with 2.2 entirely. We must either ban them all or do nothing. Shotrocket6 (T/C/E) 16:10, August 24, 2011 (UTC)

Why change it? It only every comes up in a forum is there's a problem with a certian type of photo. No change is needed. File:Ireland flag.gifCoaZTalkFile:Ireland flag.gif 16:32, August 24, 2011 (UTC)

This is what I'm thinking about. Is it really needed?File:AdvancedRookieSig2.png 16:34, August 24, 2011 (UTC)
It is filling up your filelists and making them unuseful, they have no benefits for the wiki at all and you could as well be uploaded to a host site. That's why it should change. Now please answer a question too: Why not change it? Joeytje50talk i is gud admin

Proof that they are harming the wiki? I don't see users uploading personal images non-stop and not editing the mainspace, and most personal images are properly licensed. Where's the harm?
File:Ireland flag.gifCoaZTalkFile:Ireland flag.gif 17:14, August 24, 2011 (UTC)
Just sayin' that without personal images the specialpages could be useful, improving the way things work on the wiki. In that sense, personal images are harming the wiki, because they are stopping that from happening. Joeytje50talk i is gud admin
