Every since April's massive community event came to a failure, we have gotten rather lazy when it comes to community events. We tried a Community event in October but nobody showed and it was never even discussed outside of the forum itself. I have devised a plan on changing the way we do community events and how we can get the community together. Weekly.

Twice now, a user N7 has done a community event which involves the wiki and the wikians friends. It is multiple games mixed up in a custom game and playing randomly. We all had fun both times and liked it alot, N7 then posted it on youtube for other users to see so they can join up next community event. Here is how we do it

1. Every Saturday or Sunday we have people go around chat seeing who is available on a platform (Lets say The Nintendo XboxPlaystation PC 9001), if we have 5+ people on the Nintendo XboxPlaystation PC 9001 then we can see what friends they have on, if the number is 9+ people available on Nintendo XboxPlaystation PC 9001 from friends and wikians, then its game on.

2. Every week is a different console, but we have to keep it simple. Xbox and PS3(4) will be the platforms for the community events. The reason for it is because PC and Wii users are alot less frequent then the former.

3. Every week a different person will host said event. Like how the news team has a schedule (at least I think so). For example.

Sun's Dusk Week 1: Mr. Walrus1

Sun's Dusk Week 2: Mr. Walrus2

and it will keep going like that all the time, a different user, but they can be the same at one point in time.

4. Should we -9 people, the choice is optional, postpone the event (If Saturday), or not do it that week and the host can be the same host next week.

5. Each community event will be recorded by someone, somehow. Then posted on youtube so other users who didn't make it or don't know of it can see what it is like later on.

Thank you, hopefully we can use this instead of our current usage, which appears to have not really worked out much. Note: For those that ask for using the Blogs, we should use chat because users can't just make it accounts for the event and then dropout, any other questions you can ask away.

Discussion[]

I think the format of the tournament was fine. The major problem was the absences, even in some group leaders. To combat this, I propose

  1. Organizing this in the war room, no blogs.
  2. Prohibiting marked semi-active/inactive admins from becoming group leaders.
  3. Have a back up leader (Me and CoD4 did this once- While he did show, we could have had another leader in case something went wrong.)

PierogiTalk 00:34, February 23, 2013 (UTC)

Last time we organized in the War Room, not one person even mentioned it outside of the forum. Also I don't think the format of the previous tournaments were fine considering that the last time was 1. Pure trolls most of the time, 2. Nobody showed and a beloved admin of ours left. I think it's time for change. Personal AndImBatman Sig imageBats a.k.a Rarity Filly  00:37, February 23, 2013 (UTC)
That was because many people were concerned about a repeat of the Tournament. if we do it in the War Room, we can solve the trolls problem. I have no trouble mentioning the event in the weekly news, but a full out blog would have an awful outcome. PierogiTalk 00:48, February 23, 2013 (UTC)
If you can get enough people to do this, I will gladly join. One thing I would suggest would be selecting group leaders based on connection, so hopefully the host can make a good connection to all participants. Second, if there are enough people on Xbox and PS3 willing to participate, why make one console have to wait a week? I would say if both consoles have enough people, host two tournaments. If you see anything wrong with this, please inform me. Personal The Antibrony Sig Talk page 00:43, February 23, 2013 (UTC)
How do you expect us to solve the fear of a event never happening so they don't come in the first place? We keep doing the plan we have we won't have a community event for a year like we already do. Personal AndImBatman Sig imageBats a.k.a Rarity Filly  00:51, February 23, 2013 (UTC)

Well, I see a couple problems with it. First off, excluding consoles should be thrown out the window, if we restart this, it needs to be available to everyone, not blocking them out because of their console choice. Second of all, the setup you came up with sounds like a huge clusterfuck: random unorganized groups of people that may or may not be part of the wiki with different leaders that will likely lose track of things almost immediately. One more point is that weekly seems like it will have little time for planning and is just a bit too frequent for people to regularly get involved in. I'm not sure where I stand on restarting events, but this system just seems like it will fall flat on its face. http://i.imgur.com/E2uiO5T.png SmilularTalk http://i.imgur.com/KNXWYe1.png 00:37, February 23, 2013 (UTC)

Well, if we want PCs and Wiis to join up in the events they can, just thinking it would be too little. Next, the events revolve around randomness, there is no planning on the certain day, its just the schedule, and then anyone who is available on chat and has friends join up. I have some links on youtube to when N7 did it, we all had lots of fun. --Personal AndImBatman Sig imageBats a.k.a Rarity Filly  00:40, February 23, 2013 (UTC)
Well that sounds more like a couple people in a lobby having fun, we can't just put a schedule on something that "revolves around randomness", that kinda defeats the purpose. Slapping a time frame and wiki logo onto something will only turn it into a clusterfuck. http://i.imgur.com/E2uiO5T.png SmilularTalk http://i.imgur.com/KNXWYe1.png 00:51, February 23, 2013 (UTC)
We had about 13 people, and it doesn't defeat the purpose if a community event is supposed to be fun. --Personal AndImBatman Sig imageBats a.k.a Rarity Filly  00:53, February 23, 2013 (UTC)

Honestly, I'm all for the way it was before, besides signup. The community events were great the way they were, but signups would always be a mess with lots of no-shows. We just need to find a better system to get people involved. DarkMetroid567Talk 02:51, February 23, 2013 (UTC)

Well I'm doing one tonight where I just ask some people on twitter if they want to play and then they join. Its the easiest way to do it. Iw5 cardicon soapN7 TC 10:37, February 23, 2013 (UTC)

^^^^^^^^^^ What I am trying to say. Personal AndImBatman Sig imageBats a.k.a Rarity Filly  15:46, February 23, 2013 (UTC)

I totally agree with DM567. -- laagone (talk)  23:26, February 23, 2013 (UTC)

So, you're suggesting we do what I've said to do in every forum prior to this one as well as what N7 is already doing? There's nothing to support or oppose here if no change is being made.

Pictogram voting comment Comment — On a tangent, I've been trying to do something about the Steam group we have for quite a while now, but it seems whoever created it did not give those he promoted to group admins proper privileges, and I thus cannot edit member rights within the group (and thus make additional people group admins). This group can be rallied to some form of usefulness if someone were to oversee it even on a superficial level. Click for a list of other admins Bovell Talk | Contrib. 20:07, February 24, 2013 (UTC)

To my knowledge it was made by SiPlus, whom judging by the amount of warnings and bans on his talk page may not be too keen on helping. 00:49, February 25, 2013 (UTC)
Fun fact: Apparently SiPlus has become a pretty big name in the modding industry. And lolno I don't think he'd help us at all. I'll try to contact him, but I'm not expecting miracles. Joe Copp 23:58, March 1, 2013 (UTC)
I made the permissions less strict and promoted Joe Copp to officer in the group. SiPlus (talk) 16:58, March 3, 2013 (UTC)

I think it would be a good idea to restart these events. April's event was a failure mainly because of lack of communication from the people who didn't go, and expectations that were too high. What we should do is we should expect a crowd of around 30 people on all platfroms, and those who do not go, we should fire them a message on their talk page, just inquiring as to why they could not show up (if they do not communicate beforehand). MetlTalk 20:15, March 1, 2013 (UTC)

I think what people are missing is that playing a game or two of CoD with some online buddies is much smaller a deal than what it takes to get signed up. It's never going to work, in my opinion, if it's not a casually-driven activity. You don't see people like WoodysGamertag posting signups for his community events; you just show up when he announces it over twitter/something else. Joe Copp 23:58, March 1, 2013 (UTC)

Which is what we did on Xbox last night. Iw5 cardicon soapN7 TC 09:50, March 2, 2013 (UTC)

3/1/12 Twitter Event[]

I think this event can relate to this "community event" section, as I had fun while it lasted. On Xbox, we had an average of 8-9 people IIRC when I joined the game (AI made the game that much more fun). Besides some screwy connections, this event seemed to work very good. The event had some familiar community members, along with some outside players with interest. No real signup, just a notice and see how many players we can get. If we could possibly do these "community events" in a similar manner to this Twitter event, would anybody else support? Personal The Antibrony Sig Talk page 00:36, March 2, 2013 (UTC)

I'd support ;) Also before you joined we had about 14 or 15 people I think which was pretty good. Iw5 cardicon soapN7 TC 09:48, March 2, 2013 (UTC)
Per N7, this is the kind of events I want in this. --Personal AndImBatman Sig imageBats a.k.a Rarity Filly  14:15, March 3, 2013 (UTC)
That's what we already do. If nothing new is going to be suggested I'm going to close this forum. 14:18, March 3, 2013 (UTC)
What I am trying to say is, we should make it official that we do these kind of events. N7 just did it for fun. If we can clarify that it is then we can close it. Personal AndImBatman Sig imageBats a.k.a Rarity Filly  17:10, March 3, 2013 (UTC)

Closed - No changes implemented.
