Historically speaking, we have been pretty late to update the wiki's theme when a new game is released. I think it pertinent to suggest we start getting some ideas together for a new theme for CoD WWII in order to stay thematically relevant. I'm sure everyone is aware how much competition we have in terms of CoD coverage nowadays, so I think the least we could do is show new users that we have some sense of what's happening with CoD when they first look at the wiki. This doesn't even mention the fact that a lot of templates are borderline unreadable with the background and link colors clashing like they do (example) Joe Copp 00:08, May 8, 2017 (UTC)

The picture of the soldiers going through Omaha Beach looks good. But considering that the colour seems to be yellow...PLEASE DON'T MAKE IT PURE YELLOW, THE IW IS ALREADY UNREADABLE AT POINTS. Yeah...that  QVw9GKe.pngTimelessPeople  00:16, May 8, 2017 (UTC)

Definitely. I believe that the one of the most readable themes we had was back at the time during MW3, where we had a dark/black theme with dark cyan as the link colour. I think we should incorporate something similar again. RooTm3q.png Soap Shadow · Talk  00:19, May 8, 2017 (UTC)

Hasn't already been agreed upon that this wiki isn't going to use dark themes, seeing as how many people can't use it for any prolonged period of time? I feel like this discussion happens every year. 00:21, May 8, 2017 (UTC)
Personally I see no problem with it. It doesn't need to be straight black--a gray would look nice. I always found light text on dark background to be the most easily readable. Joe Copp 10:37, May 8, 2017 (UTC)

Well, here's the cover image for WWII:

It's a lot more blunt in style then previous entries, without any consistent main colour (in comparison to say BO2, which was mainly orange and black). This makes it pretty hard to narrow down what we should use, but to take a guess, I'd say it looks like a yellow/blackish scheme. Capt. MillerTalk 10:43, May 8, 2017 (UTC)

That's a fair point. Personally I wouldn't be so opposed to waiting to see what the first promotional materials look like, off of which we can base the coloration. Joe Copp 16:56, May 8, 2017 (UTC)

Based on the website, the color scheme seems to be white/off white and that dirty yellow which looks like #9F912A or thereabouts. Would someone be willing to create a mockup using these colors and some of the promotional images for a background? Joe 00:57, June 2, 2017 (UTC)

I agree with Joe, just try to make the links a readable colour against the white background. This bright yellow is hard to read. So dirty yellow for links and the main theme, black for text and white as background.  QVw9GKe.pngTimelessPeople  02:11, June 16, 2017 (UTC)

I wouldn't mind doing something now. It could be anything, just, anything but this. I don't really have any ideas for the scheme. GhKJh.pngP90DeathmanuceaHlB.png 02:15, June 16, 2017 (UTC)

Just finished a mockup for a new theme: QJdrQlV.png

That link colour looks a bit like a sickly brown.

Doesn't look too bad to me. Conqueror of all Zombies (talk) 06:29, June 16, 2017 (UTC)
Per sam; I'd prefer a different color. HBRa3 menu icon AW Ultimate94ninja talk · contribs 08:58, June 16, 2017 (UTC)
I am ok with it as well. It appears to be the same yellow used in the promotional material. Joe 19:48, June 19, 2017 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Personally I think we should use a link colour that's more game-neutral, so we don't have to change it every year. Also we can choose one that's CoD related, but also kind of the eyes.

Here's my attempt trying out a Green link colour (based off of CoD 4). It seems to my eyes to be bright enough to contrast our colours, don't look dirty and should contrast more than yellow. It is similar to Sysop green, but not the same (may have to see it in action next to a sysop green to be sure). Yellow is a hard colour to work with, it's either dirty or requires a darker background to work with.

While I appreciate trying to get away from yellow links, I don't really agree with the green. It clashes way too much with all the other colors on the page. Joe 01:30, July 3, 2017 (UTC)
Yeah, the green is pretty obnoxious and clashes with the rest of the colors in the theme. Conqueror of all Zombies (talk) 22:25, July 23, 2017 (UTC)

While the color that Sam suggested looks fine to me, it will definitely cause confusion with the Sysop hilite, even though it's slightly brighter. However, the main element to change is the tables background, so that the links colors fit in both this and the base background (TFW the current colors make dis a fucking eyesore). I mean, I wanted to suggest something like the the spring green; while here it sorta look fine, on the tables it doesn't. On the other hand, the dark cyan looks good in tables, while here on the standard background it doesn't. HBRa3 menu icon AW Ultimate94ninja talk · contribs 12:45, July 30, 2017 (UTC)

I don't really want to repeat myself so my complaint is int he link provide, but if you want a bright coloured link text why not change the background to a darker colour so that we don't have to squint every time we read it?--Made up Character Wiki Admin Jack Jackson Things I do [mod] 08:04, August 15, 2017 (UTC)
Because it was already agreed upon we wouldn't use darker backgrounds because light text on a dark background can hurt peoples eyes.

Ok, I did some more experimenting, and wanting to stick with a green, since it's the mos military colour I could think of, and still gives off a vibe of CoD 4 (and I think it was one of our older colour schemes). I decided to try a darker shade of green. It can be seen here:

Also I would greatly like to stress that I feel at this point, it may be much esaier for us to go with a neutral colour scheme and update the wiki wordmark and background. The reasoning mainly is because this forum as started in May and its now August, and we're no closer to find a new scheme now than we were then. So if if this is the running trend we can't be doing this every year. If we keep the core elements neutral then updating will be so simple we won't ahve to run though a stretched out forum like this.

Mhm. Only have minor edits to the colour if it's a major thing, Such as header colours. Twig (Talk) GLnUhiE.png 05:18, August 17, 2017 (UTC)
In that case I'd really rather have a white background with black text. The links and headers could be what we change for each game. With this scenario I would be ok with the green you suggested. Joe 15:28, August 17, 2017 (UTC)

Closed - We've had the theme for several months now. Conqueror of all Zombies (talk) 20:35, February 18, 2018 (UTC)

I'm implementing the link colour change as there was no opposition and I don't want to sit though another forum in about 6 months for whatever game comes out then. 20:51, February 18, 2018 (UTC)
Just as a note, I previously changed the background of the welcome template to reflect WWII before Sam implemented the link color changes. Since the latter conflicted with the template's background, I modified it again by adding a brighter color (as seen here, here and here). If there are any issues with this please contact me on my talk page. HBRa3 menu icon AW Ultimate94ninja talk · contribs 12:41, February 20, 2018 (UTC)
