List me all non-working/ugly parts of the skin and I'll fix them. Right. I'm now going to show the mock ups I have for backgrounds. I have 7. so I'm going to display all 7, then before we vote we can have a minor discussion about any others you'd like me to try. However I can state with the MW2 camos I'm showcasing only the ones that would flawlessly repeat. So if it's not here, I couldn't get a flawless repeat. Also, I'll use a collapse-able for sizing concerns. {{Signatures/Crazy sam10}} 22:05, April 28, 2014 (UTC)

Well, I'm going to let the comments sit for a day or two, so if anyone has any mock ups they want me to try, I can display them now (if they work) and then put them in the vote. Given there's already 7 mock ups, I don't want to start throwing in extra votes mid way. So if you think of anything say it now. I'll do my best to advertise this so everyone knows. {{Signatures/Crazy sam10}} 20:56, April 29, 2014 (UTC)

I quite like the digital. It fits the color scheme better than the others. If not that, then the woodland would be the next best choice in my opinion. <font size="3"><font face="fantasy">[[User:Joe Copp|Joe Copp]]</font></font> 14:57, April 30, 2014 (UTC)

I'll be different here, I actually think the final Ghosts theme (the current one) looks best out of all of the proposed backgrounds. The contrast between the black and white fits good for the background, and the pattern of the skulls doesn't make the background stand out against the rest of the content. The others are all clearly very small, and I can't help but notice how much they repeat (which looks sort of ugly IMO). {{Sig/AntiScootaTwo}} 15:32, April 30, 2014 (UTC)

As I've mentioned before, I haven't been particularly involved with this forum. So I'm just asking, what are the chances we can abstain from a background change until we know what the general color scheme or the big promo image of CoD 2014 will be? I know that might be a bit controversial, making another relevant skin theme, but it can't hurt to at least see what it will be, right? {{Signatures/Damac1214}} 15:51, April 30, 2014 (UTC)

:I personally don't like the idea of theme colour swapping. When we first swapped White > Black, there were a few issues we had to iron out, such as changing tempaltes, css code and so on. We've encountered similar issues now we've voted to go back to white. I don't mind holding off changing the background. But I think we can keep ourselves up to date without having to change our colour theme. If you look at CharlieIntel, they've managed to stay up to date while still having a white body. Granted they have more background space to play with, but nonetheless it's maintained white. {{Signatures/Crazy sam10}} 15:58, April 30, 2014 (UTC)

::Also, on the off-chance CoD 2014 uses a white theme, then we'd be stuck in a horrid cycle of colour changing. It would mean white for Sledgehammer, Black for Treyarch (most likely) and then Black for the rest of Ghosts. I think it's completely plausible to match our theme with the current game, without needing to go full re-colour. {{Signatures/Crazy sam10}} 16:05, April 30, 2014 (UTC)

Forums: Index War Room Wiki skin revamp

Archive This page is an archive. Please do not edit the contents of this page, other than for maintenance. If you wish to revisit this topic, please bring it up again in a new topic.

hey everyone, today I'm going to propose some changes to the site skin we currently have. Personally, I'm extremely sick of the all-black layout we have. There's no colour on the wiki, just black and some grey lines. It was fine for a few months or so but its becoming a bit of an eyesore imo.

So I propose we give a little life and colour back into the wiki. I've made and almost completed a sample skin, but i need some feedback to make it better. The one that i have done so far is a lighter, bluer skin based on the water level featured in Call of Duty: Ghosts. I'm currently making another skin on my second personal wiki that will take some darker elements but still retain some colour so everything isn't pitch black. you can see the skin i have completed (which also needs input/feedback) here: http://hurr.wikia.com/wiki/Special:WikiActivity (the sagan heads aren't apart of the skin :p)

So any ideas you have about the skin above, please post below. I should be finished with the other sample skin by tonight or tomorrow. KλT 19:08, February 12, 2014 (UTC)

Discussion

I'd like to point out a while ago I made my own forum regarding the look of the wiki, Forum:Wiki design overhaul, which seemed to come the consensus that no one seemed to care for a redesign.

19:09, February 12, 2014 (UTC)

well this is a new forum about it, and I'm putting some effort into it by designing some skins for people to give their feedback. I personally think that forum is irrelevant to what I'm trying to accomplish. KλT 19:11, February 12, 2014 (UTC)
Well you're trying a wiki redesign, which is what I wanted my forum to achieve. Meaning it has relevance to this forum as well. I understand you've put effort into a new design, however my point was that the general attitude to have a redesign is low. 19:16, February 12, 2014 (UTC)
yeah but you're assuming peoples opinions haven't changed. This is a fresh forum, how about we see what people have to say now? KλT 19:18, February 12, 2014 (UTC)
It's only been 2 months since the forum in question, and the War Room has hardly gotten much more active. Chances are since you've done something, they'll say they like it and simply stop caring about the issue in whole. 19:22, February 12, 2014 (UTC)
Hey, how about we stop discussing "what would happen", and start discussing the forum in question, please?.-Diegox223 Zed's dead, baby.Personal Diegox223 Deadpool logo19:28, February 12, 2014 (UTC)
I brought up a similar forum with similar aims as I believed it would be of topic. But fine, I'm used to being ignored and ganged up on when I've stuck to my guns. 19:31, February 12, 2014 (UTC)
I don't think you're being ganged up on, I just don't think another forum with a similar topic from two months ago has anything to do with this one. Two months is a long time, and people can change their minds in that period. Plus I think I have a compelling argument. regardless this isn't doing anything good for this particular forum. Plus so far it looks like people want to see some change. Lets be positive! KλT 19:34, February 12, 2014 (UTC)

Wow, that looks really good. A revamp of the colour in the wiki would be pretty much appreciated, since we0ve been doing the black colour for, what, 3 years now?.-Diegox223 Zed's dead, baby.Personal Diegox223 Deadpool logo19:19, February 12, 2014 (UTC)

Its been pretty much dark for the past 3 years. But at least the black ops 2 skin had that neat orange flair. Our current skin is just grey and black. KλT 19:21, February 12, 2014 (UTC)

I'd approve of a re-skin, the white text on black background is straining to the eyes. But, I think basing the new design on one short level isn't a good idea. Rather, we could use black/gray with green undertones to simulate the overgrown "post-apocalyptic" urban setting that most of Ghosts takes place in. http://i.imgur.com/TLfINDf.gif This username better work http://i.imgur.com/TLfINDf.gif 19:25, February 12, 2014 (UTC)

I think I'll use that as a platform for the second skin. KλT 19:34, February 12, 2014 (UTC)
I think the blue just doesn't fit the look and feel of Ghosts. A shade of green would definitely fit. Captain Emblem MW2 Capt. Miller · talk 12:08, March 30, 2014 (UTC)

I like the Background of the test design, but I don't like the gray used for Recent Changes and Articles and such. I realize it's a demonstration, but we should work out a better color than gray or black.

Additionally, I think we shouldn't limit ourselves to basing the theme off Ghosts, or the newest game in general. I, for one, loved the Wiki's BOII scheme and unless Sledgehammers new game has some unique color scheme, I'd rather we take inspiration from all the games rather than just Ghosts/CoD 2014. http://i.imgur.com/KUDLq.png 19:37, February 12, 2014 (UTC)

I like this idea. A sort of culmination of all the previous iterations in one skin. I could try my hand at that. KλT 19:41, February 12, 2014 (UTC)
I like the idea of the skin being relevant to the game that is next coming out (considering i made the last 3 rofl) because it makes us seem like we're keeping up to date and its just cool. (also the bo2 one was damn sexy, the orange hnnnnng) Iw5 cardicon soapN7 TC 21:01, February 12, 2014 (UTC)
If "keeping it up to date" in 2014 means more Gray and Black, I refuse. http://i.imgur.com/KUDLq.png 21:06, February 12, 2014 (UTC)

Your proposed skin is pleasant to the eye, I gotta say, except when reading. The light grey doesn't go very well with the light blue text in my opinion, so if either one was darker I'd be very happy with a change. The current layout is a bit... boring. Pinkiepiejump.gif FireBird-Pinkie Pie!  19:44, February 12, 2014 (UTC)

Um, yes, excuse me - CTRL+F says there is no mention of monobook here, and that's a problem. Probably the biggest problem to have ever existed on the internet. Will it stay the same? Because it's still got a green background from like MW3(?) and could use some love so I no longer feel left out by being the only person on the planet to even be aware it still exists. -- <choose><option>azuris_</option><option>22px-1888721.png Azuristalk</option> 23:04, February 12, 2014 (UTC)

I personally don't at all like the gray color in the linked example. It makes all text difficult to read and links nearly impossible. If we're going to change the skin, the background of the text, at the very least, needs to be either black or white, or something very close, or else we sacrifice readablility. Joe Copp 09:00, February 14, 2014 (UTC)

Agreed. http://i.imgur.com/KUDLq.png 04:48, February 17, 2014 (UTC)

I'm not sure I like it but thats probs because I prefer the darker themes. It seems to bright and I don't see the point in using a random background image from 1 mission from 1 game. I think its better when we do a new one for every game but that's just me. Iw5 cardicon soapN7 TC 10:30, February 21, 2014 (UTC)

Except the new one for Ghosts ended up being incredibly boring compared to the ones for BOII and MW3. Plus if Sledgehammer doesn't change up their color scheme for the next ones marketing, it could easily be just as boring. http://i.imgur.com/KUDLq.png 13:26, February 21, 2014 (UTC)
Not to mention Darwin killed off the background, so we can hardly see it any more. So most of our flare comes from the colours of the wiki itself. So we'd want to focus on bold colours. And to a degree, I preferred the white background, but since we had to change a bunch of templates to go black I'd rather see us work around that. 13:42, February 21, 2014 (UTC)

I like dark themes but we're currently running on pitch black. I think we should go a bit more grey if we're gonna update anything.  FANMADE_Animated_Derpy_Hooves_desktop_ponies_sprite.gif Sig1.png Sig2.png  22:25, February 21, 2014 (UTC)

I like the grey but I have a question, how is the grey going to match our background? --Personal AndImBatman Sig imageBats a.k.a Rarity Filly  00:46, February 24, 2014 (UTC)

A skin revamp implies the background will be changed as well. And as everyone keeps saying, this isn't a final skin by any means. http://i.imgur.com/KUDLq.png 01:09, February 24, 2014 (UTC)
To be fair, the background is a lower priority now. On larger screens, you can barely see much of it, and I beleive smaller screens just don't have it at all. 01:41, February 24, 2014 (UTC)
I would say that on most 16:9 screens, there is enough background visible for it to be an important aspect of a skin change. Joe Copp 04:46, February 24, 2014 (UTC)
I have a 16:9, and all I really have is half a skull, and a small amount of someone's face. While there is enough room there to actually have something, there's no longer enough room to have anything too noticeable as the side bars are quite thin. So having a character would only have about half of them in shot or something. 16:22, February 25, 2014 (UTC)
I'm on the same boat. While we can't really fit a character or other items which would be considered traditional themes for a background, we should maybe look for some sort of tasteful pattern that matches the theme of the game, or some such thing. Joe Copp 16:32, February 25, 2014 (UTC)
A Pattern would work. But I'm not sure if Call of Duty has one really. 17:01, February 25, 2014 (UTC)
Just something that would look nice. Maybe a camouflage pattern with the main colors of the game? Imagine a BOII camo, with a few shades of gray and orange highlights. In that circumstance it would look nice. Maybe not for Ghosts, but you get the idea. Joe Copp 17:12, February 25, 2014 (UTC)
I can make a digital camouflauge with either three or four colors as long as I know what colors you would fit Ghosts best. I was thinking black, medium white with some slate blue to match the Ghosts UI. SS Blitzstrahl (talk) 20:47, February 28, 2014 (UTC)
Sure, can we get a mockup? Joe Copp 14:50, March 1, 2014 (UTC)
Sample of the camo. I can change the colors if you would like it darker and such. SS Blitzstrahl (talk) 16:38, March 1, 2014 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Couldn't we also use this? Since it already matches really well, and repeats perfectly.

03:39, March 2, 2014 (UTC)

I love the monobook color scheme. Whatever you do to the other format that's fine, but please don't get rid of the nice green color Monobook currently has. It's so much more welcoming than black or grey. Personal Poketape 8-bit Price Emblem flippedPoketape Talk8-bit Price Emblem MW2 05:56, February 28, 2014 (UTC)

Here's my take on a possible "Ghosts blue" theme. http://testtheme.wikia.com/wiki/Test_theme_Wiki SS Blitzstrahl (talk) 05:14, March 6, 2014 (UTC)
Looks too 8-bit. I know Digital uses squares, but not pronounced as that. Also, I could have used my wiki as a test bed. 05:16, March 6, 2014 (UTC)
While you might not like the camo, does the UI look like it would come from in-game? SS Blitzstrahl (talk) 05:45, March 6, 2014 (UTC)
Not really. Ghosts is more black than blue. 07:02, March 6, 2014 (UTC)

Importantly, I think the colour scheme used should be neutral enough so that both light and dark coloured images are noticeable. The downside to our current theme is that images on page such as the APS Underwater Rifle aren't very visible. The guns are predominantly greyish-black and so they blend in quite well with the article background, which isn't great. The sooner a new background is decided upon, the better in my opinion.

13:02, March 17, 2014 (UTC)

I agree, we should try and switch to a more neutral colour. I nkow Black goes with all the recent CoDs, but it's not a very welcoming colour. Going on to Wikis that have white backgrounds also feels a lot better on the eyes most of the time. 13:30, March 19, 2014 (UTC)

Character Theme

We could have an image of the winner of N7's character as a side bar character. We could also have a color scheme similar to their features or game. Thus...Russman Theme

AFGBOYS2000 23:42, February 24, 2014 (UTC)

I actually kinda like this idea. Maybe not this one specifically, but I like the concept that the community can collectively choose the background. Perhaps something more can be done with it? Joe Copp 16:05, February 25, 2014 (UTC)
Also, the poll did not feature any characters from before Call of Duty 4. So by right, it wasn't a complete poll, and the outcome would technically be invalid for anything aside from fun (which it is). 06:17, February 28, 2014 (UTC)
But if we're being honest, none of the characters pre-CoD4 would win the competition, so it might still be considered valid. Joe Copp 14:58, February 28, 2014 (UTC)
That's a subjective point. It needs to be tested to be confirmed. 17:44, February 28, 2014 (UTC)
What I don't think needs to be tested though is recognition of characters. Just based on sales alone, a post-cod4 character will be recognized by our greater community than a pre-cod4 character. http://i.imgur.com/KUDLq.png 16:59, March 1, 2014 (UTC)
That's what I'm saying. The only character that would have any realistic chance of competing would be Price, and even that's a stretch. Joe Copp 22:40, March 1, 2014 (UTC)
Thing is, it would still be an unfair to base it on an incomplete poll, even if we believe certain characters would lose. It would be like holding a poll for best US president, but leaving certain Presidents out because we think they're too bad, or too old. 22:53, March 1, 2014 (UTC)
No, it's more similar to leaving out certain presidents because we know the greater community just won't recognize them. I can tell you that despite his popularity within the community, I had no idea who Alvin Bloomfield was before coming to the wiki. I didn't even know there was a WWII version of Price. These are just two examples of characters who are very popular with the fans who know who they are. When it comes to what the general audience is going to recognize, Soap and Mason are gonna win out over Bloomfield and Tanya time and time again. http://i.imgur.com/KUDLq.png 01:57, March 2, 2014 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Either way, leaving options out of a poll still makes the result an invalid result as it did not test all available outcomes, no matter what we believe the outcome will be.

03:26, March 2, 2014 (UTC)

But we're not conducting a scientific study. We're trying to temporarily change the background image. Joe Copp 21:13, March 2, 2014 (UTC)
But to make a change based on a n incomplete test is using an invalid result. If we want a true consensus for performing a change, then we must ensure all options are offered up. 21:21, March 2, 2014 (UTC)
Either way. Getting back to the original idea here, I think letting the casual/blog community decide the background from a preset list of a few options would be a good way to get people involved without sacrificing quality. Joe Copp 15:41, March 5, 2014 (UTC)
We'd have to test them before showing them as options. No point saying "Well X won, but it looks naff, so we won't be using it". Characters are too wide to be used effectively as side images. We'd be better off with a repeating pattern. Perhaps one of the in-game camos. 02:37, March 6, 2014 (UTC)
Yeah that's basically what I'm saying. Load a couple of em up on test wikis to see how they feel, and if they're good then we can put them to a vote. Joe Copp 03:44, March 6, 2014 (UTC)
Well right now, I've got Imageplacement using a version of Blue Tiger, which you can see here. I've tried with the other MW2 camos and they all repeat perfectly (Red Tiger and Blue tiger need a bit of cropping to repeat flawlessly, but they still do). I'm not sure about CoD 4, but anything beyond that won't repeat due to the design it's given. 05:38, March 6, 2014 (UTC)
Personally, I'm not exactly sure that would look right unless we changed the rest of the wiki colorization, like headers and buttons and stuff, to match it. Blue Tiger is a pretty odd color pattern. Joe Copp 15:45, March 6, 2014 (UTC)
Well we don't have to use Blue Tiger, it's just the demonstration I have up to show how the tiles can work. I can try with other tiles as well, such as Red Tiger. I tried Digital, and I'm not a huge fan of it. 20:24, March 8, 2014 (UTC)
I think one of the iconic camo's (except for gold of course, that would be god awful) as a background would be nice. I think Red Tiger would look pretty good (and quite menacing, if I might add) as a background. So, I think we should get two votes in. First one to distinguish the best looking camos from Call of Duty titles (CoD 4 to Ghosts), then another for which one looks the best as a background. Any progress on this yet? The continued black is genuinely depressing to the eyes!

Moving on

Since this forum has grinded to a halt. I've implemented the new colour scheme (since no one opposed). Now, before I close it, this section is just so we can discuss if we should use one of the Camo images as a repeating background. If I don't hear anything soon, I'll just close the forum outright.

Sorry if I jump in a little late but the thing I don't like about this theme is that blue text can't be seen very easily from the background, which hampers some pages that have many links, especially special pages like S:RC. -- laagone (talk)  13:53, April 1, 2014 (UTC)
Ah, the issue there is I've not used the link colour that was on the example. I'll change that in a moment. 15:28, April 1, 2014 (UTC)

Actually. I've looked though the comments, and I remembered I had a green code stashed away for making those MW style name plates. Anyway, I gave it a test and it looks like this:

Green honestly looks better than the blue-on-blue that was recently implemented IMO. As far as a darker shade, that might be harder to read as the current background is also darker colored. http://i.imgur.com/4XBy83R.pngAntiScootaTwotalk  14:11, April 2, 2014 (UTC)

In fairness, the current link colour looks very close to the b'crats link colour. So this green should be fine. 09:16, April 3, 2014 (UTC)

I personally do not like this background color whatsoever. It's too far from black or white and, even with the current link color, decreases ease of readership. Joe Copp 05:31, April 3, 2014 (UTC)

I don't mean to sound rude, but you've waited an awful long time to bring it up. 09:16, April 3, 2014 (UTC)
Also, I'm finding it much easier to read now than when it was pitch black. And as much as I like white, we've changed nearly every template to match black, so if we swap back to white again, we'd need to change all our templates. And a lot of our theme is wrapped up in our .css, meaning we'd need someone that understands the code to make most of the changes. Given we're not as busy as we once were, making a transition like that would take an incredibly long time. 12:29, April 3, 2014 (UTC)

"I've implemented the new colour scheme (since no one opposed). Now, before I close it" We didn't have a vote? Personally I don't like this new colour scheme at all, I thought it was just for april fools but it turns out its not. I don't even think of blue as a colour related to Cod of Duty. Iw5 cardicon soapN7 TC 20:39, April 3, 2014 (UTC)

We went nearly a full month with no one inputting anything new. So firstly, we had a dead forum that had no direct opposition. And secondly, no other mock ups had been offered. So far the only other mock up that's been suggested since Kat's link are my images where we use a green instead of blue. I'm sorry if you dislike the new theme, but you really should of put in more input earlier. 21:33, April 3, 2014 (UTC)
Ah I didn't know that if no one inputs into the forum then we just make the changes without a vote. Must have missed that rule, sorry! Iw5 cardicon soapN7 TC 09:47, April 4, 2014 (UTC)
Given I was aware that the pitch black colour scheme was causing users discomfort, and that no one else had stated much dislike, or any alternate mock ups, I chose to implement the new colour scheme. However, the forum is not currently closed, I've got a mock up here currently to replace the blue which you've stated to dislike. So if you ahve any of your own mock ups or suggestions, now would be the best time to make them. 11:51, April 4, 2014 (UTC)

Maybe it would be easier if we went back to the old pre-MW2 theme ingeneral. The theme is easy to the eyes and looked nice, but we can add differences such as some color swaps from it to add some originality. 132527029757.gifArgorrath おしゃべり%E7%95%B0%E8%AD%B0%E3%81%82%E3%82%8A.jpg21:55, April 3, 2014 (UTC)

I would love to go back to White, don't get me wrong on that front. I'm mainly sticking to this shade of grey and working around it because it means we don't have to change half a dozen templates and images (logos we inverted) to rematch the new colour. 22:04, April 3, 2014 (UTC)
I really don't think changing back to a white-based scheme would take that long. Probably 2 hours tops for one of us. Regardless, the difficulty should come secondary to the actual aesthetic appeal to the community. Joe Copp 01:44, April 4, 2014 (UTC)

16:05, April 5, 2014 (UTC)

it seems like in the past week or two, the theme of the wiki changed. id like for it to go back to how it was. we usually have the theme based on the current "color theme" of the current call of duty. that fit the best and this new one weve had is annoying with the almost black on grey. i know you were discussing changing it to the green but this is just my opinion. RisingSun2013 (talk) 16:10, April 5, 2014 (UTC)

never mind, the almost black on grey is fixed, but i still think it should stay the same. green is definitly not the color theme of call of duty ghosts.

I'd prefer to have the colour scheme that doesn't give users migraines. 16:24, April 5, 2014 (UTC)
i dont see how itd give people migraines. the theme is dark and not very bright. white and green might though, considering theyre bright colors.
now if your just saying that figurativly, well, i can see the unappeal of the current skin since its very dark and boring, but still, theres the fact that the colors follow the color scheme of the current game. RisingSun2013 (talk) 16:35, April 5, 2014 (UTC)
The pitch black theme, that you want us to go back to, was making users feel discomfort. Furthermore, in my mock-up, there's only green for links. And since most pages on the internet are defaultly white, I think we can assume there's no issue there. especially considering, unless you have a super bright monitor, white is a neutral colour. 16:48, April 5, 2014 (UTC)
i read through and didnt see about it causing anyone discomfort until now. so if it is, then its better to change it. RisingSun2013 (talk) 16:56, April 5, 2014 (UTC)
The main topic now is choosing between the grey + green mock up, and the white background mockup. 16:57, April 5, 2014 (UTC)
grey and green. RisingSun2013 (talk) 16:59, April 5, 2014 (UTC)
As long as the BG image is up for discussion, I quite like this scheme. Joe Copp 09:46, April 6, 2014 (UTC)
Ignore the BG image just for now. I do have some mock ups of BGs, but it'll be best to get the colour scheme going first since BGs may look better with different themes. 10:01, April 6, 2014 (UTC)
The green and grey background doesn't look half bad, so I'm all for it. As for the background, I was actually thinking of something that incorporates the whole series, either from the first game to now or starting from CoD4 instead. The only problem I can see with this is that someone will need to do some really good image work for it to look good. Zombie Rank 8 Icon BOII Kylet357 · talk  14:53, April 6, 2014 (UTC)
I like this idea, although it would be difficult to make it look good with the small area we're given, like you said. Joe Copp 22:33, April 7, 2014 (UTC)

Given there's now 2 mock-ups that use different themes, I will move to a mini-vote so we can choose which one to take. However, the White theme was more or less mocked up so we had a version, and I wanted to avoid some colours at the risk of looking "normal" (such as blue links). So if anyone has anything they'd like to suggest for the white version, please state them now, so we can look at them and deem if they're any good. Once we're settled on the theme then I have some BGs that are worth looking at.

22:24, April 7, 2014 (UTC)

I don't personally have a problem with blue links. They are blue on most other sites because they stand out, and that's what people are looking for. When you go to places like Wikitroid where the links are a similar color to the headers and buttons, it throws you off. Just for ease of navigation, I'd recommend sticking with blue links. Other than that, I'm okay with moving to vote on the mockups. Joe Copp 22:33, April 7, 2014 (UTC)
So with the white theme, would you prefer White, Grey and Blue? I wanted to try and avoid looking too "plain", as it were, but of course if it's preferred there's no real issue with it. 23:47, April 7, 2014 (UTC)
I mean, personally, I don't really like that color blue. Normally we do something related to the latest/next game to come out and I don't really see where that fits in. I'm not totally opposed to a blue highlight, just perhaps a different shade. Joe Copp 18:12, April 8, 2014 (UTC)
Wait, can you post another picture of what you just said? I think I'm misinterpreting your words here. Are you saying White background, Grey buttons, Blue links? Because I'm alright with that. If you're saying Blue buttons, like we have right now, then consider my previous statement. Joe Copp 18:14, April 8, 2014 (UTC)

Vote 1

Alright, since we have 2 mock ups, and I've not seen anyone suggest anything else. so I'm going to put a vote to the two themes.

  1. Option 1 - Grey and Green
  2. Option 2 - White, Grey and Blue
  3. Option 3 - Current theme. Given Kat has updated the theme I'm adding it as a 3rd option. I still have background mock ups of my own to show. So ignore the new BG for now.

Addition: This is not voting on the background as of yet. The backgrounds seen in the images are just ones that happen to be there while I took the screencap. Pleae do not take the background into consideration when voting. There will be a section after this vote with Background mock up as different camos will match different themes.

IF you like I can try tweaking the image a little bit so it's a bit more even on both sides. Also, I'll put it up in the 2nd vote for backgrounds, since I was going to show off all the mock ups for backgrounds I had once we'd settled with a theme, since some BGs would suit different colours better. 03:39, April 14, 2014 (UTC)

(Reset indent) So, when are we moving forward? Zombie Rank 8 Icon BOII Kylet357 · talk  07:27, April 20, 2014 (UTC)

Well it's more or less only just turned the 20th. So I'm going to give the vote a little more time. Perhaps wait for it to be put up into weekly news and judge it from there. The votes haven't really changed round much which either means everyone is happy with their choices, or they're not aware that an Option has been put in since they voted. Once I've given it a bit of time to confirm everyone is happy, I can move it on. I'd vote myself, but I'm torn between which one I prefer. 08:22, April 20, 2014 (UTC)

Vote 2

Right. Now that it's the 27th I have assigned the winning theme. Later I'll most the mock ups for backgrounds. There should be around 5ish, the current one, and some I was experimenting with in the first place. At the time of writing this I'm somewhat tired and don't want to take all the images to post, so I will upload them first thing tomorrow, so watch this space.

I'm assuming the current changes in color, like templates and font is your work, correct? http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2013/276/1/2/bionicle__unity_duty_destiny_by_cyberpictures-d6p3li2.pngLegos-Rule-15 Talk 21:33, April 27, 2014 (UTC)

If you mean did I just change the theme, then yes. 21:53, April 27, 2014 (UTC)

Slight additional; I did not realise just how much of the theme was wrapped up in code. As such it might take a while to get a few of the smaller features to match up colour wise. Just bear with me and I'll try and get them fixed. I have contacted a coder, but I'm still waiting for a reply. I am aware there are other coders, however I wanted to first talk with one that made the code in the first place.

I apologize, but I haven't visited this forum for awhile, what are the possible background images we're thinking of? I'm just concerned cause the mock-up I see above looks rather black and dark compared to the white theme. http://i.imgur.com/KUDLq.png 00:24, April 28, 2014 (UTC)

who the hell decided to turn the wiki skin completely white? In my opinion the previous grey and blue was far superior to this one. I think another vote should decide to keep or revert, because this one looks awful imo. KλT 02:38, April 28, 2014 (UTC)

I agree with Kat, this current one looks absolutely horrifying, in not a good way at all. #fc0349talk 02:46, April 28, 2014 (UTC)

emergency vote

I think the general consensus is that the current skin looks completely horrendous compared to the previous grey and blue one, so I think I'm going to go ahead and create a sort of emergency vote to revert the changes immediately. The white content pages simply don't match, and they don't really have anything to do with ghosts. KλT 02:56, April 28, 2014 (UTC)

Pictogram voting support Support — I support a revert, though I'm not totally against a white redesign. Turth be told the skin was implemented to quickly and is unfinished, and makes several parts of the wiki either unreadable or unappealing to the eye. The lack of a background is also rather poor. I'm all for a new, brighter, white skin but we shouldn't be rushing it and making the wiki look gross as a result. http://i.imgur.com/KUDLq.png 02:59, April 28, 2014 (UTC) Template and coding changes have made the Wiki legible again. Still needs a background and the Admin/Bcrat hilites should be changed, but I no longer support a revert. I will however say that the skin should not have been put in place without having been finished, we should have learned from our mistakes last time. http://i.imgur.com/KUDLq.png 14:38, April 28, 2014 (UTC)

The skin was finished, I was just unaware just how much of our theme is placed in the .css. I assumed many of our templates would have their colour codes on the template itself. However after going over the .css I found a lot of our colours are wrapped up in it. If less of our theme was made up of code it would speed up changing things. 15:07, April 28, 2014 (UTC)
Also, once this section is resolved, I can move on to the background vote. As for user hilites I'll look up our old colours, as they were made for the white theme, and I'll post them here. Failing that we can just make a section and discuss new hilites. 15:09, April 28, 2014 (UTC)
These are the old colors. -- laagone (talk)  17:19, April 28, 2014 (UTC)
Were they always so light though? I personally remember them being just a tad darker when we were on the old white themes, that's all I'm talking about. http://i.imgur.com/KUDLq.png 17:21, April 28, 2014 (UTC)
Yes they were. They haven't been changed, they've always been #66AAFF and #32CD32. -- laagone (talk)  17:26, April 28, 2014 (UTC)
Maybe it's a slight trick of the light. We're used to the dark wiki so we remember them being different shades. But I think bots may of changed colour between versions. 17:32, April 28, 2014 (UTC)
The hilites are located in the Hilite.css (previously Common.css but it was copy-pasted to a different location), where the colors are the exact same they were in a revision from three years ago before the background went dark. So they haven't been changed. -- laagone (talk)  17:37, April 28, 2014 (UTC)

Excuse me? The white theme won the vote. Granted there's a few teething issues, but perhaps you could of let me look into the issues instead of immediately overhauling to your theme. If anything, we should of gone to the runner up of the vote and gone to grey and green. I am trying to fix the white theme, which would of been implemented flawlessly if we hadn't decided to make it so every little detail was put into our .css as opposed to just using the theme designer like normal people.

08:23, April 28, 2014 (UTC)

In fact, I'd like to remind you all that more or less all our coding is made for a dark background. When we first switched from white to black we had the same issue. The transition back is going to take a short amount of time. But I'd rather you actually give me some time to do the transition instead of going to an "emergency vote" in only a matter of a few hours. 08:43, April 28, 2014 (UTC)
Also, I'd like to stress; if anyone saw the wiki with a white background and light grey text. That was not the fault of the white theme. That was the fault of changing the wiki back to the old theme without changing the .css as that's where the main background colour is found. Changing the theme will automatically change the font colour to one that would match. However since we can't change the background colour as easily it means the font colour will change, but the background will not until the .css is changed.
I am currently working as hard as I can to fix as many parts of the theme as I possibly can to make it look more flush, but as I raised earlier, we have far too much stuff stored up in the .css that it's a slow process, made worse by lack of knowledge of the .css. So I'm going to ask that you please bear with me as I do this, instead of jumping on me before I've had a change to perform any possible fixes. As you must all remember if you were here at the time, we had the exact same issue when we first swapped from the white theme to the dark theme. It will take a little while to get all the colours working again and looking flush, however I ma doing my best to fix this as I go. So as I've said, please bear with me while we do this transition. 09:58, April 28, 2014 (UTC)
Furthermore, some people are saying its certain elements that have become a hindrance with the new theme. So it would be helpful if these were brought to my attention so I can get round to fixing them, as opposed to just stating "I don't like it" and "per all". Because that's nothing I can really work with. 10:00, April 28, 2014 (UTC)
to be perfectly frank you should have consulted with someone who could make the white skin on another wiki, with all the coding set and images completely set for the changes, I'm not especially worried about the white look overall, but I am worried about the wiki coming off as unprofessional and trashy since site wide changes usually take a day to update via cache, and multipl edits and changes usually will be a pain for users. I generally don't like the white either since I preferred the grey wholly. Maybe I should have specified this earlier but I was in a rush. I just think we should revert to he grey until we have another vote, things more streamlined by me if were going to stick with the white. Cause right now, no offence to you, I think it looks atrocious. Even with the background, generally because I made it with the grey in mind. KλT 12:51, April 28, 2014 (UTC)
Well after spending all morning changing templates and .css coding. I have finally got the white theme to look flush. Granted some people have have to manually reset their cache to see the changes, but it is otherwise fixed. And as for the change in background, as I had pointed out earlier, I wanted to hold a separate vote for the background as different backgrounds fit with different colours better. You put the current background in while we were still voting on a colour theme, so I can't really control as to if it matches with the new theme. Right now, I am finding the white theme far easier on the eyes, and much easier to use. 13:16, April 28, 2014 (UTC)
Furthermore, it's very hard to use other wikis to install the colour themes, because only this wiki features .css coding so heavily in theme design. Whereas on Imageplacement I can just swap around the theme colours. On here I had to go into the .css to change the colours of template backgrounds, which is overly complex. 13:18, April 28, 2014 (UTC)
Also, looking though this emergency vote. All the votes that were put in place prior to the grey text on white background issue, which in my opinion has scewed some votes as they believe it is the white theme to blame, are voters that had voted to take one of the grey themes, which in my opinion makes this particular vote look quite bias. 14:13, April 28, 2014 (UTC)

Also, I'd like to stress this, if anyone had any light grey text on a white background. that was not part of the white theme. That occurred due to the theme being changed back without the background being updated, resulting in font intended for a grey background appearing on a white background. That was not part of the new theme at all.

13:45, April 28, 2014 (UTC)

My problem with the theme is that it's actually kind of stressing on the eyes because of how bright it is. Other than that, I honestly have no problem with it. However, I'd still pick the darker background themes over this. Zombie Rank 8 Icon BOII Kylet357 · talk  14:50, April 28, 2014 (UTC)
Though I agree it can be stressful on the eyes, similar complaints were raised about the theme when we first switched to a darker one because it was "too hard to read anything". It's just going to take some time to adjust. http://i.imgur.com/KUDLq.png 14:54, April 28, 2014 (UTC)
Damac's right. When we first changed to dark it was weird on the eyes. Now you're used to that it'll be weird going back to white. But should settle in.
I just wondering what it's going to look like with the background that we choose. As of right now, the current one doesn't look too bad. Zombie Rank 8 Icon BOII Kylet357 · talk  16:40, April 28, 2014 (UTC)
I agree with Damac and Kyle. Joe Copp 20:02, April 28, 2014 (UTC)
Well given the teething issues are mainly over now. I'm hoping I can move this forum forward and display my background mock ups, instead of having to work on performing a turn around. 20:27, April 28, 2014 (UTC)

List me all non-working/ugly parts of the skin and I'll fix them. From what I can tell this vote was made as a response to the skin when it hadn't fully updated, which is fine, but let's not keep flipping back and forth until we're sure the one we voted in is working properly.  FANMADE_Animated_Derpy_Hooves_desktop_ponies_sprite.gif Sig1.png Sig2.png  17:26, April 28, 2014 (UTC)

I quite like the digital. It fits the color scheme better than the others. If not that, then the woodland would be the next best choice in my opinion. Joe Copp 14:57, April 30, 2014 (UTC)

I'll be different here, I actually think the final Ghosts theme (the current one) looks best out of all of the proposed backgrounds. The contrast between the black and white fits good for the background, and the pattern of the skulls doesn't make the background stand out against the rest of the content. The others are all clearly very small, and I can't help but notice how much they repeat (which looks sort of ugly IMO). http://i.imgur.com/4XBy83R.pngAntiScootaTwotalk  15:32, April 30, 2014 (UTC)

As I've mentioned before, I haven't been particularly involved with this forum. So I'm just asking, what are the chances we can abstain from a background change until we know what the general color scheme or the big promo image of CoD 2014 will be? I know that might be a bit controversial, making another relevant skin theme, but it can't hurt to at least see what it will be, right? http://i.imgur.com/KUDLq.png 15:51, April 30, 2014 (UTC)

I personally don't like the idea of theme colour swapping. 15:58, April 30, 2014 (UTC)
Also, on the off-chance CoD 2014 uses a white theme, then we'd be stuck in a horrid cycle of colour changing. It would mean white for Sledgehammer, Black for Treyarch (most likely) and then Black for the rest of Ghosts. I think it's completely plausible to match our theme with the current game, without needing to go full re-colour. 16:05, April 30, 2014 (UTC)
