I wanted to put something out there about the checkuser tool. It might work 90% of the time, but you have to remember how nothing is foolproof and wikia software is no exception. When a user is shown to have the same IP as another user, the admins quickly jump to the conclusion of sockpuppeting. Remember, that in this day and age, mutiple computers can operate out of the same router, and therefore, multiple users can have the same IP, but they're not the same person. I would like to propose that there be some guidelines about the use of this tool, something along the lines of when it is appropriate to use and whether or not its use is really necessary. All users please share their thoughts on this, admins, B'crats, and regulars.
- I agree with the above. I know that school IPs in particular get harsh punishments just because the people blocking them are unaware that there are 2000+ people using the same router. Yüri Kaslov 01:50, October 16, 2010 (UTC)
- Exactly my point. I was recently banned because my bro was sockpuppeting and vandalizing. Immediate jump to conclusion. I will admit that there can be exceptions, such as if it seems like something a user would do, then there is a probable reason for a quick blocking. Rambo362
- There doesn't need to be any guidelines for this tool. It's not hard to use and the administrators are not stupid. Normally when the tool is used the outcome will be discussed between Checkuser users (and other users) in one way or another. --Callofduty4 01:19, October 24, 2010 (UTC)
