The subject of this article appears in Call of Duty: Ghosts
For the gamemode with a similar name, see Free-for-All.

"The brand-new Call of Duty: Ghosts’ multiplayer map Free Fall drops you into a shattered skyscraper on the brink of collapse. Sideways staircases climb into the night sky, elevator shafts run along the ground, and what were once windows now form a terrifying glass floor, hundreds of feet above the city streets. Free Fall’s close-quarters combat and frenetic action are thrown into overdrive as the ruined skyscraper continues to fall throughout the match, an example of Call of Duty: Ghosts’ new dynamic multiplayer events. With every drop, the accompanying shockwaves cause further destruction, disrupting sightlines and constantly evolving paths and chokepoints as the map changes in real-time."
— Preorder description

"Dynamic map events change the way players approach the game, and Free Fall does a great job illustrating this new mechanic."
Mark Rubin

Free Fall is a small multiplayer map in Call of Duty: Ghosts. It is available by buying the Season Pass or the Hardened or Prestige Edition, and also was available to everyone who pre-ordered Call of Duty: Ghosts via GameStop or GAME or pre-ordered a digital version of the game. The map became available on Wii U on March 4th 2014 for eShop Download, free of charge.

Overview

Free Fall is set in a skyscraper in Caracas, Venezuela; is a dynamic night-time map that takes place in a "shattered skyscraper on the brink of collapse", hundreds of feet above city streets. As the match goes, the map will continue to "degrade" as the skyscraper falls down, thus changing terrain and possible sightlines in real-time.

The map is mostly close-range, with spots for some medium range, so it is best for shotguns and submachine guns, plus some assault rifles. The holes in walls that look towards the middle of the map also act as good sniping spots, but other than these there isn't really anywhere to snipe.

Dynamics

  • The building section "degrades" twice during the match every few minutes, changing some of the terrain and sightlines.
    • When this happens, any Helo Scouts in the air will be destroyed without warning.
  • The K.E.M. Strike appears to make the map dark and foggy, making it hard to see enemies.

Trivia

  • If the players looks down at the streets below, they can see traffic moving, and police cars.
  • It was released for everyone in an update in March.
