The G36C is an assault rifle featured in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Find Makarov: Operation Kingfish, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3: Defiance and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered. It can also be used in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 with the console commands.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare & Modern Warfare Remastered[]

"Fully automatic with a high rate of fire. Effective at medium range."
— Weapon description

Campaign[]

The G36C is first introduced to the player as the first usable weapon in "F.N.G." as the weapon used for target practice. It is later available to the player in all SAS missions, though it never appears in any USMC missions. The G36C always comes with a Reflex Sight being one of the only two weapons that are found with one during the campaign, the other being the M4A1. The G36C shares the same ammo pool as the M4A1 and the M16A4.

The G36C is fairly unique in the fact that its hip fire accuracy is extremely high, rivaling that or being better than most Submachine Guns in the game. However, this characteristic is absent in multiplayer, where the hipfire accuracy is reduced to that of a normal assault rifle.

The G36C with a Reflex Sight attachment is Gaz's signature weapon and is used by him throughout all the campaign, except in the missions "Blackout", "Crew Expendable" and "No Fighting In The War Room", where he will use an M4A1 or a W1200. It is also used by the Ultranationalists wearing the gas masks.

Multiplayer[]

The G36C is available to the player at Level 37. It has one of the fastest draw times of any primary weapon (0.4 seconds, barring the slightly faster M16A4 at 0.35 seconds), rivaling even the speed of sidearms. This means that switching to the G36C is almost as fast as switching to a secondary, with arguably much more killing power: using Overkill with a G36C as a secondary is an excellent alternative to carrying a sidearm.

The G36C has the same damage per bullet as the M4 Carbine, dealing 30-20 damage and killing in 4-5 shots (3-4 with Stopping Power); however, its handling is very different. Both weapons have their pros and cons: the G36C has less idle sway, a slightly lower rate of fire, arguably worse iron sights, and more recoil than the M4 Carbine. The latter is also more accessible because it is unlocked at an earlier level (10, instead of 37). Both guns share the same type of ammunition, so a player can restock their ammo from dropped G36C or M4A1 Carbines, as well as from M16A4s. The slower rate of fire on the G36C, along with its low damage per bullet, give it the dubious distinction of having the slowest time to kill among all assault rifles. The G36C is most effective at medium to longer ranges where its smaller idle sway can help it pick off targets more efficiently than the M4 or the AK-47.

The G36C has a recoil pattern of 50 to each side, 60 upward, and 30 downward. This is a higher value than the M4 Carbine or even some of the higher damage assault rifles, but it is still manageable, particularly when firing in bursts. Reload speeds are slightly slower than average, but not by much.

Stopping Power is a good fit for the G36C because of its lower damage and fire rate. Other good perks with the G36C include Steady Aim, which allows the G36C to perform better at close quarters, and Juggernaut to give the user more time to place shots before dying. Along with a Silencer, the G36C becomes a deadly close range stealth weapon able to perform well at medium and even long range.

The G36C can attach the Grenade Launcher, Silencer, Red Dot Sight, or the ACOG Scope, the same as all assault rifles with the exception of the MP44. The Red Dot Sight is arguably a great improvement over the bulky iron sights, but due to its minimal sway, the ACOG Scope is also quite effective.

Weapon Attachments[]

Old School Mode[]

The G36C appears in Old School Mode with 30 rounds in the magazine and 60 rounds of reserve ammunition.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare[]

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered[]

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2[]

The G36C can be used in the Special Ops missions Suspension and Wreckage, with the console command "give g36c_reflex". As the name of the code suggests, it is equipped with its red dot sight from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

In first-person view, the red dot sight does not appear, nor when aiming down the sights. This is because its red dot attachment model was being cut from the game. However, the third person model shows it with scope attached.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3[]

"The G36C packs a punch and leads the pack in aggressive performance. High damage output and effective range give the power needed to push forward and down assailants that cross your path. Recoil jolts upward, so burst fire is recommended at longer ranges."
— Call of Duty: Elite description

The G36C makes its return in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, as seen in the Special Ops Survival Mode trailer with a Red Dot Sight. It is quite similar in appearance to its Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare variant, except for its magazines: instead of being made partially of translucent plastic, they appear to be opaque. Statistically, it has a similar rate of fire, recoil and damage, but with a different and more "tactical" reload animation where a new magazine is drawn first before the expended magazine is discarded.

Campaign[]

The G36C is used by the Ultranationalists in "Persona Non Grata", "Bag and Drag", "Iron Lady", "Eye of the Storm", "Blood Brothers", "Stronghold", and "Down the Rabbit Hole". It is also seen in the hands of the GIGN in "Iron Lady". The G36C is the starting weapon for Yuri in "Down the Rabbit Hole", equipped with a Red Dot Sight.

Multiplayer[]

The G36C is unlocked for Create-a-Class at Level 42, but is available from the start in a default class, equipped with a Grenade Launcher and a Red Dot Sight.

The G36C is a moderate damage per bullet assault rifle with poor range. At any range short of 22.5 meters, the G36C will deal forty damage per bullet, taking three shots to kill. Damage linearly decreases until forty meters. At any range past forty meters, the G36C will deal 25 damage per bullet, needing four shots to kill. The G36C's three shot kill capability stops at 29.5 meters. Headshots usually reduce the shots to kill by one with the G36C. The G36C is a one shot kill in Hardcore out to roughly 33 meters. The G36C also has medium penetration power. The G36C has the second shortest three shot kill range in its class - only the M4A1 has a shorter three hit kill range, and most assault rifles will have a few more meters of three hit kill range on the G36C. Thankfully, the G36C's minimum damage value isn't too low and keeps the G36C competitive at longer ranges.

The G36C compensates for its low range with an elevated fire rate, firing at 769 RPM. This rate of fire is one of the highest fire rates in the class. Only the M4A1 and FAD beating it out in this regard, and the G36C has a distinct advantage over both of them with medium range lethality.

The G36C's accuracy is a bit poor. The iron sights are hit or miss - some will despise the blocky rear post, while others will deeply appreciate the clean front sight. The G36C's recoil heavily tends upwards. The G36C has minimal kick to the sides, but the kick value going upwards is extremely strong, the strongest upwards recoil in its class. Thankfully, the centerspeed is the highest in-class, at 1600, helping to counteract the recoil somewhat. Still, the very strong upwards kick will take some getting used to. The G36C benefits greatly from the Kick Proficiency, as it will reduce the recoil per shot of the G36C, making the weapon much more accurate overall.

The G36C has great handling characteristics. It has the assault rifle default movement speed of 90%, or 36% when strafing, a standard aim down sight time of 300 milliseconds, and medium sized hip-fire crosshairs. The G36C really shines with switch speeds, having both the fastest raise time and drop time in its class. The G36C is also much faster to raise than other assault rifles when switching to the G36C away from a quick drop secondary, such as a pistol. The G36C's reload speeds are also good, taking 2.43 seconds to reload, or 3.46 seconds to reload if the magazine is empty. The G36C can be reload cancelled in 1.5 seconds. These reload speeds are quick and acceptable. Thanks to the G36C having fast enough reloads and exceptionally quick switch speeds, the G36C is not dependent on Sleight of Hand, especially the Pro version. If the user finds themselves using Sleight of Hand a lot to ameliorate switch speeds, the G36C can be used without Sleight of Hand quite comfortably.

The G36C has a standard assault rifle magazine capacity of thirty rounds per magazine. The G36C has a starting ammo loadout of ninety rounds total.

The G36C has the standard assortment of attachments available on offer. The Red Dot Sight and Holographic Sight both present alternatives to the iron sights for the G36C. The iron sights are a sour point for many regarding the G36C, and as such, these attachments can come in handy. The Holographic Sight has a slightly higher magnification than the iron sights and the Red Dot Sight, with the Red Dot Sight having the same innate zoom level as the iron sights.

The Silencer is available, and gives the usual stealth benefits, but shortens the G36C's three hit kill range and one hit kill range in Hardcore by 25%. The G36C is a great choice for a Silencer, as the G36C has minimal damage differential between maximum and minimum damage, an elevated rate of fire, and range isn't the G36C's forte to begin with. The G36C is an attractive choice among the assault rifles when looking for a silenced weapon.

The Grenade Launcher provides two grenades to the user, which can be launched from the Grenade Launcher. The Grenade Launcher in Modern Warfare 3 has a significantly smaller one hit kill radius, meaning that the user has to be pinpoint precise with the grenade to kill the opponent, and that's assuming that the enemy is not using Blast Shield. Usually the user will need to hit an enemy with the explosion of both grenades to get a kill, if not directly hitting the opponent. However, pairing the Grenade Launcher on a class using Recon can allow the user to use the grenades as a means to track enemies from afar. As well, the Grenade Launcher's damage deficiency isn't as prominent in Hardcore game types, and can be a deadly tool in such game types.

The Heartbeat Sensor provides standard portable radar on the side of the weapon. Seeing how an enemy Assassin user will not appear on the Heartbeat Sensor and how popular said perk is, one shouldn't come to be overly reliant on this attachment. Still, it is without downside.

The ACOG Scope gives a long range scope that enhances definition at longer ranges, but it makes the G36C aim down the sight in a lethargic 380 milliseconds. The ACOG Scope is not suited for an aggressive playstyle at all, which the G36C leans more towards due to its lacking three hit kill range. The ACOG Scope doesn't decrease the centerspeed like in previous Call of Duty games, making the ACOG Scope a more palatable attachment option than in the past.

The Masterkey is available for the G36C, and provides a close quarters, pump-action shotgun that acts as an alternative to firing the G36C from the hip up close. Much like the Grenade Launcher, the Masterkey is extremely unreliable in Core game types, as it only fires six pellets per shot, each dealing 25 damage at any range short of 12.5 meters. By default, the user needs 2/3 of the pellets in a single shot to connect to secure a one shot kill. In addition to that, the rate of fire is poor since it's a pump-action, the Masterkey only holds four rounds in the tube, and damage falls off rapidly after 12.5 meters, with the Masterkey ceasing to deal any damage after 16.5 meters, and damage being incredibly poor at the edge of the Masterkey's effective range, dropping to as low as five damage per pellet. Like the Grenade Launcher, however, the Masterkey is much more reliable in Hardcore game types, as it only needs to connect with two of the six pellets in a shot to kill at ranges shorter than 12.5 meters. Still, the Masterkey isn't an attachment worth using in Hardcore.

The Hybrid Sight gives a Holographic Sight and an ACOG Scope that the user can alternate between, but the aim down sight time gets slowed down to 350 milliseconds, or 380 milliseconds if using the ACOG Scope portion of the sight. Unlike Hybrid Sights in later titles, the Hybrid Sight in Modern Warfare 3 forces the user to wait an embarrassingly long time to switch between sights. As such, users should be very careful when switching between sights, and users shouldn't switch between sights too often. The ACOG Scope portion of the sight is also extremely obstructive, as the viewing lens is very small and the scope itself obscures a lot of peripheral vision.

The Thermal Scope gives a long range thermal sight that illuminates enemies white hot. The Thermal Scope has its own disadvantages, as the Thermal Scope lengthens the aim down sight time to 380 milliseconds, and doubles the idle sway speed of the G36C. The Thermal Scope is much more comfortable to see through compared to similar sights in previous Call of Duty titles, but it has one glaring flaw: Assassin users are not illuminated white hot when looking directly at them. They still show up in the scope, and the Thermal Scope in Modern Warfare 3 provides higher definition on said opponents, but they can prove hard to spot if the user is too dependent on the white hot illumination of targets. The Thermal Scope removes all gunkick, making it so that the user can clearly see the point of aim with the weapon, but the G36C's gunkick isn't too severe to begin with, and the G36C doesn't lend itself well to the usage of the Thermal Scope.

Extended Mags increases the G36C's magazine capacity to 45 rounds, and increases the starting ammo loadout to 135 rounds total. This attachment is easily the strongest attachment available from a direct benefit standpoint, as it gives the G36C the ability to tackle more opponents without pausing to reload, and gives the G36C more ammo to work with, reducing the need for both Scavenger and Sleight of Hand. Extended Mags is never a bad choice to use on the G36C and provides a notable benefit. Whenever the user is designing a class with the G36C, Extended Mags should always be considered for usage. The only downside to Extended Mags is that it is only unlocked at Weapon Proficiency level 26, meaning that the user will need to use the G36C for an extremely long amount of time before it becomes available.

Special Ops[]

The G36C is available for both Survival and Mission modes.

Mission Mode[]

The G36C is a starting weapon in the Mission mode challenges "Fire Mission" and "Vertigo", and an enemy weapon in the missions "Toxic Paradise", "Resistance Movement", and "Smack Town".

Survival Mode[]

The G36C is available in Survival Mode at level 39 and costs $3000.

Overall, the G36C is a very solid weapon, capable of providing good power with minimal recoil, which makes it useful in Survival Mode. It is useful for low to medium waves, due to its high rate of fire and damage. Headshots will start to become necessary during the high waves and players should be cautious due to the possibility of rapid ammo consumption as no enemies carry this weapon.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3: Defiance[]

The G36C makes its first appearance on the Nintendo DS in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3: Defiance. It has 30 rounds in the magazine with 150 rounds maximum to spare. It can only be found as its regular variant therefore no attachments are compatible with it. It has low-medium recoil but recoil can be a problem due to the high rate of fire.

Campaign[]

The G36C is available in hidden locations throughout most of the campaign, usually on top of ammunition crates, and takes two to three rounds to make a kill. Its high rate of fire, however, empties its magazine quickly, meaning reloads are constant. Also, its iron sights are misaligned, with the actual shots landing from slightly above the sights, though an experienced player may use this to their advantage in achieving headshots. The G36C is rarely seen in use by friendly forces and is rarely found due to being located in hidden areas.

Multiplayer[]

It has similar stats as mentioned above, and is unlocked after getting a total of 1300 kills with assault rifles.

Trivia[]

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare[]

  • In-game, the translucent plastic magazine always appears full, no matter how many rounds are actually in the magazine. This is changed in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, as the bullets will disappear from the magazine as the capacity of the current magazine lowers.
  • From third-person view in multiplayer, if the G36C is not equipped with the Silencer or Grenade Launcher and any camo is used, it will have the Reflex Sight from the campaign mounted on the top rails.
  • The fire selector on the G36C is set to semi-automatic, even though the weapon fires in full-auto. This is changed in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, as the fire selector is now present on full-auto.
  • When equipped with the Grenade Launcher, the empty reload sound is off.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2[]

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3[]

  • The G36C in the Create-a-Class image, killfeed image, and pickup image lacks its iron sights.
  • The gun has a different reload animation than the one that appeared in the Survival Mode trailer, which was the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare reloading animation.
  • When equipped with the underbarrel Shotgun attachment, each shell is reloaded slower than the previous shell.
  • The trades on the side claim the weapon to be a "G36KE1" made by the arms company "Pooder & Chernoosky" in "Europe & Sterling, VA".
  • If the player looks at the reloading animation carefully, it can be seen that the fire selector switch is set to semi-automatic, not automatic as it is used in-game.
  • At Call of Duty XP, the G36C's pickup name was G36 and it reused the pick-up icon from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3: Defiance[]

  • If the player looks closely, they can see that the magazine is empty, even though bullets can be seen on the side.
