Private Joseph Goldberg was an American paratrooper who served with the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment during World War II as featured in Call of Duty: United Offensive.

Biography

Goldberg was a paratrooper assigned to Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment. Likely a replacement, Goldberg enlisted in 1943 and was stationed at Camp Mourmelon in the weeks leading up to the Siege of Bastogne.

As German forces attempted to breakthrough the Allied lines in the Ardennes Forest with the intent of capturing the strategic port in Antwerp, Goldberg as well as the rest of the 506th were rushed to the crossroad town of Bastogne. The 506th arrived on 19 December and was placed on the northeastern flank of Bastogne to halt the German advance from Foy. As 2nd Battalion arrived on the frontline, it dug in, preparing for an attack from the 76th Volksgrenadier Division and 2nd SS Panzer Division. On 26 December, Goldberg was part of a jeep patrol under the command of Sergeant Moody with orders to scout out the area forward of the American line. As he and the patrol dismounted and patrolled the forest on foot, they were engaged by a German patrol, and were eventually overwhelmed by enemy armor. Private Ender ordered the patrol to retreat, but Goldberg remained in their original position adn was killed by a direct hit from a Tiger I.

• He seems to have had a somewhat strong relationship with Ender as Ender took his death fairly hard but did not react to the deaths of the rest of the patrol.
