Heads Up! is the Main Quest of the map Shi No Numa in Call of Duty: Vanguard. It involves the Allied Special Forces travelling to a Japanese swamp to restore the memories of Saraxis the Shadow.
The Wunderwaffe DG-2 is required for sections of the quest.
Step 1[]
The player must head to the Doctor's Quarters Exterior where they will find a strange monolith covered in vines. The vines can be cleared by exploding Boom Schreiers near the monolith. The player can then head to the Doctor's Quarters themselves where they will find a piece of paper containing kanji (themselves correlating to strange runes) laying on a table nearby. Throwing a Molotov Cocktail or Thermite onto the piece of paper will reveal the full list of kanji and runes (this list is the same every match). Afterwards, three Cypher Wheel parts must be found across the map, located at the following places:
- On a table at the Dormitory.
- The room to the right of the Demonic Fountain at Doctor's Quarters.
- On the table in front of the Pack-a-Punch Machine at Dig Site.
The Cypher Wheel parts must be assembled in the middle of the monolith. Three runes must be selected using the Cypher Wheel from top to bottom, with each of these runes corresponding to a kanji. The three kanji required can be found on pieces of paper scattered around the map located at the following:
- On a table at the Excavation Room beneath a group of destructible books.
- On the Crafting Table at Dig Site.
- On a table at Comm Room.
Step 2[]
Once the correct runes are input, there will be four stones around the Doctor's Quarters Exterior that will light up (one for each player). If on solo, the player must simply interact with one stone although on co-op each of the players must interact with their respective stone at the same time.
Once the stones have been interacted with, a lockdown will begin where zombies surrounded in blue mist will spawn. These zombies must be killed near the monolith with a Wunderwaffe DG-2 before the lockdown ends. If the player fails, they will get a quote from Vercanna stating that they can try again later (i.e, next round). If they succeed, a blue Echo of Saraxis will appear in front of the monolith. After a brief conversation with the real Saraxis, the Echo will disappear.
Step 3[]
The Elder Gods discuss the situation, ordering Special Forces to recover the pieces to the Relic Mirror. However, these pieces are trapped inbetween the mortal realm and the Dark Aether - requiring Special Forces to see "beyond". The player must head to the Flogger trap and use it to kill zombies, flinging their bodies towards the broken Demonic Fountain at Flogger Courtyard. Eventually, the Fountain will fill with blood which can then be drank to give the player vision similar to Zombie Blood. While in this vision, the player must find and retrieve two pieces to the Mirror. If the player does not retrieve the pieces in time before the blood's vision wears off, they can try again by drinking the blood again. However, using the fountain too many times will require it to be filled again.
The first piece can be discovered by going to the War Room and checking the map for a red X indicating which hut the piece will be in. After heading to said hut, the player must look at the ceiling and shoot down the piece before picking it up. The other part can be found by following a red orb that will spawn at the starting hut somewhere; leading the player to the second and final piece.
Step 4[]
With the Mirror pieces retrieved, the player must head to the altar at Dig Site and place the Mirror pieces down. A blue orb will spawn on a stone near the altar that will fly away once interacted with. The player must find the orb and shoot it back towards the direction of Dig Site. This must be repeated several times.
Once the orb is returned to its rightful place for the final time, stone(s) will light up near the altar (one for each player) that must be interacted with to re-summon the Echo of Saraxis.
Step 5[]
The Echo will take Saraxis' physical form and have another conversation with her true self by revealing the truth of her past - Saraxis was once the bride of Kortifex the Deathless. Saraxis, shocked, will initially deny this, which causes the Echo to respond angrily that if she cannot accept the truth then she must die.
This will begin a lockdown as well as a fight with the Echo. Similarly to Zaballa, the Echo's weak points are its three masks. To attack the Echo, the Relic must be charged by killing enemies with blue mist nearby with the Wunderwaffe. Once this is done, a blue bubble will spawn that will allow the player to attack the Echo. Each of the phases have different enemies take on the blue mist; the first phase having regular zombies with blue mist, the second having Boom Schreiers, and the third having Sturmkriegers.
Once the third mask is destroyed, the Echo will be defeated and Saraxis' memories will be restored. A short cutscene will play over Saraxis' narration wherein she details some details of her past, as well as Kortifex's obsession with "The Construct" which will allow everyone to become his "playthings". The Mirror can then be picked up as the player is rewarded with a Head's Up calling card as well as a pile of loot and a Max Ammo.
